Redemption

Redemption
Regina's POV

I stood in the kitchen, sipping a cup of coffee, as Daniel and I chatted about the latest development in our lives. Having a sister was still a new concept for me, and I couldn't help but feel a little strange about it.

Daniel asked me how I felt about having a sister, and I hesitated for a moment before responding. "I feel...strange about it, I guess trying to put my emotions into words. "I can tell that Rachael is having a hard time wrapping her head around everything, too."

Daniel nodded understandingly, and I could sense his empathy. "But despite all the uncertainty," I said, , I have a strong feeling that things might work out well for us," I continued. "We've been deprived of so much for so long, and this feels like our chance to reclaim everything we've lost."

As I spoke, Daniel wrapped his arms around me from behind, pulling me close. His warmth and comfort enveloped me, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me.

"That's the reason my life has so much meaning," Daniel whispered in my ear, his breath sending shivers down my spine. "You, Regina, are the light that fills my life. And now, with Rachael in the picture, I feel like our family is finally complete."

I leaned forward, pressing my lips against his, and he kissed me back passionately, but our moment was short-lived as the doorbell rang, interrupting us. Daniel pulled away and headed to the door, but as he opened it, he froze.

"Who is it?" I asked, growing concerned.

But before Daniel could respond, he called out, "Mother."

I was taken aback. What was Vivian doing here? I hadn't expected her to show up unannounced, especially after our last encounter.

Daniel stepped aside, allowing Vivian to enter. "Mother, what are you doing here?" he asked, his tone neutral.

"I wanted to see you both," Vivian replied, her eyes fixed on me. "I didn't get a chance to properly talk to Regina last time we met."

I remained quiet, staring at Vivian with a mix of curiosity and wariness. But as I looked at her, I saw something in her eyes that gave me pause. It was a glimmer of genuine interest, of a desire to connect.

After a moment's hesitation, I surprised Daniel and Vivian by asking, "Would you like to stay for dinner?"

Vivian's face lit up with a warm smile. "I'd love to," she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm.

Daniel looked at me with a questioning expression, but I just shrugged. Maybe it was time for us to try to bridge the gap between us, to see if we could find some common ground.

As we sat down to dinner, Vivian took a deep breath and began to speak. "Regina, I want to apologize for my past behavior," she said, her voice sincere. "I was wrong to stop you from seeing Daniel, and I was wrong to hurt you. I realize now that I was a terrible mother, and I've learned my lesson in the worst way possible."

I looked at her, surprised by her words. "I also want to apologize for working with Williams," she continued. "I had no idea he would go as far as trying to kill you. I swear, I didn't know..."

I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "You truly had no idea?" I asked, my voice firm.

Vivian lowered her head in shame, unable to meet my gaze. "I... I didn't know he would go that far," she muttered.

I shrugged, a small smile playing on my lips. "Well, I have to admit, I did enjoy ruining your position in your company," I said, a hint of mischief in my voice.

Vivian's eyes widened, but I quickly added, "However, I made sure not to ruin the company itself. I'm not that heartless."

Daniel looked at me, a mixture of surprise and amusement on his face. Vivian, on the other hand, looked relieved, a small smile on her lips. "Thank you, Regina," she said, her voice sincere. "I appreciate your mercy."

I continued, "And as you know, I also gave Daniel back the project, and Williams is now behind bars. Tomorrow is his sentencing, and considering the severity of his crimes, he'll likely serve years in prison or even face the death penalty."

I turned to look at Daniel, and I saw a proud look on his face. He was smiling, and his eyes were shining with admiration. I felt a warmth in my heart, knowing that I had made him proud.

I turned back to Vivian, my expression serious once again. "I haven't forgiven you yet, Vivian," I said. "But eventually, I will. But even though you seek a new path to redemption, I won't be restoring your image in your company or giving you back your position, and you know why."

Vivian nodded, her eyes welling up with tears. "I'm ready to face my mistakes," she said. "I just hope that you both can forgive me. And a new path to redemption it is."

Daniel frowned, becoming thoughtful. "Mother, what about Ivy?" he asked, his voice low and serious. "Why is she suddenly so quiet?"

Vivian's expression changed, and she looked nervous. "I... I don't know what you're talking about, Daniel," she stammered.

But Daniel's eyes narrowed. "Don't lie to me, Mother," he said. "I know something's going on. What is it?"

Vivian sighed, her shoulders sagging in defeat. "Fine, I'll tell you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I caught Ivy cheating on you, Daniel, the day I heard you were hospitalized. And the next day, I bribed a lawyer to give her divorce papers. She's signed them, and the divorce has been processed."

Daniel and I were both shocked, our jaws dropping in unison. "Why didn't you tell me?" Daniel asked, his voice laced with confusion. But overall, he didn't look that interested.

Vivian looked down, her eyes welling up with tears. "I felt remorseful, Daniel. You were going through so much, and I didn't want to add to your burden. I'm sorry."

I reached out and took Daniel's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. He looked at me, and I could see the shock and confusion starting to fade, replaced by a sense of relief.

Daniel turned back to his mother. "Have you seen your grandson?" he asked, a small smile playing on his lips.

Vivian shook her head, a look of longing on her face. "No, I haven't."

Daniel and I exchanged a glance, and then we both smiled. "Well, we think it's time you met your grandson," Daniel said, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

Vivian's face lit up with joy, and she let out a sob of happiness. "Thank you, thank you so much!" she exclaimed, tears streaming down her face.
