Chapter 112 We Have a Wedding Date!
The next morning, we left our bedroom early with the baby to share with our friends, who were all having hot chocolate in the kitchen. Our house is really the place where everyone feels comfortable, with hot coffee, homemade desserts, meals, board games, and karaoke.
When we arrived, everyone greeted us and the baby. Then, Mom took the baby for a walk with Cristina and Sofía. The current topic of discussion was Ricardo's girlfriend, and we found him explaining to everyone, "She's not my girlfriend, we're just dating. How can I bring her here? It's still too soon."
"Leave him alone," said Dubois. "When Ricardo makes it official, he'll introduce her."
"I feel like if I don't pressure him, he won't make it official," said Hana. "Both Sebastián and Ricardo keep avoiding marriage, we can't miss this chance."
"Just because things are going well for you and Michael doesn't mean it'll be the same for us," said Sebastián.
"And how will you know if you don't take a risk? You guys are good people, don't judge by what happens to others. Take a chance... at least Michael took a risk, and look, it turned out well. They already have an adorable baby," said Hana.
"Now Michael is an example," added Sebastián. "He hasn't even gotten married yet and already has a child. He did everything backward."
"Speaking of that, Michael..."
"I see what you're doing, Sebastián. You want to shift the conversation to me," I said, seeing Sebastián smile and wink at Michael.
"And it worked," he gave me a thumbs-up.
"It's true, Michael, let's talk about the wedding," continued Hana.
"I've wanted to get married for ages, Valeria is the one who's been postponing it," Michael looked at me, clearly passing the ball to me.
"Well, Valeria, why have you been postponing it?"
"Don't you see what they're doing, Hana? They're just passing the ball to each other. We started with Ricardo and now they're coming for Valeria," said Margaret.
"I know, Margaret, don't worry. But I realized we need to talk about the wedding. Then I'll move on to Sebastián and Ricardo."
Michael, Sebastián, Ricardo, Eduardo, and Alfred took their breakfast and left Valeria with the women for the wedding conversation.
"Seriously, Valeria," said Hana. "What are you waiting for? You're dragging this out too long."
"At first, I was pregnant. I didn't want my child to see that I got married while pregnant. He'll see the photos. I also want to wear a beautiful wedding dress, look pretty. I need to get my figure back. Marriage is a once-in-a-lifetime event."
"I understand that. How are things going? Have you lost weight? Do you feel good?" asked Hana.
"Yes, but I'm also doing it for Dubois. His world isn't mine. Business people will have to come to the wedding. He's a well-known man. I can't look bad. I'm doing it for him."
"Michael doesn't care about any of that. Those people are important for his business, but he can't sell his designs to himself."
"Valeria, listen, Michael is a genius in IT. Investors are after his ideas, not the other way around. You've been his secretary for many years, how do you not know this?"
"I have my fears," I said.
"Your marriage has nothing to do with anyone else, just you and Michael. It's a day to celebrate love, the couple, the union, and the family. Haven't you seen how crazy that man is about you? As the young people say, he's head over heels."
"Margaret, how long does it take to plan a beautiful wedding, a celebration of love?"
"I can do it in a month. The hardest part is the venue, but if Valeria agrees to have it at the hotel, it will work. If we start with the dress now, we'll have everything ready in a month and a half."
"But... I still have excess weight."
"In a month, you'll be beautiful. What you don't understand is that Dubois loves you and thinks you're beautiful, and that's all that matters," said Hana.
"Okay, help me. Tell me what I need to do," I said. "I can't wait any longer. I have a wonderful man who wants to marry me. Am I crazy? What's wrong with me? I'm getting married."
"Let's make a plan, Valeria. Get a pencil and paper," said Margaret. "I'll list what we have and what we need."
"I'm on it," I said, heading to the pantry to get it. Sebastián came in and was told to leave.
"I just want to get some water," he said. Hana told him to get it and go, as it was a women's conversation.
"Well, I'm off, nothing happened," says Sebastian. "Valeria, we'll be at the basketball court."
"Alright, Sebastian, go ahead." As they leave, Hana asks Margaret, "What do we have so far?"
"I have the dress design, but not the dress itself. Ebony says it can be made quickly. She'll come for the fittings and handle Sofia's dress as the maid of honor, and the dresses for Rosalia, Cristina, and of course, mine."
"Add mine too," says Hana.
"I have the perfect venue for the decoration, though I need to give them a month's notice. The hotel will provide the food if the wedding reception is held there. The church is ready; we just need to set the date. We can have the civil ceremony here with some of Valeria's friends from her old neighborhood. I'll handle the civil wedding dress and Alejandro's suit with Valeria."
Margaret seems like a robot. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without her. She's wonderful and has excellent organizational skills.
"Margaret, you should delegate tasks," Hana tells her.
"I will. I have a staff; I'm just the director. My assistant will handle things, and I plan to hire a wedding planner. That's my gift to my dear friends."
"You have an assistant?" I ask Margaret.
"Of course, how else do you think I get everything done and find out all the necessary details?"
"Now, Valeria, do you want to wait the two months you mentioned, or can you get married in a month?"
"A month and a half, to make it perfect," says Margaret. "How beautiful it would be on Valentine's Day. I'm so excited; it falls on a Saturday, ideal for a church wedding."
"Valentine's Day?" I ask, thinking I like the idea.
"Yes," I say, "I like that."
"Perfect, we have a date. Check with Dubois to see what he thinks."
"I want to surprise him, Margaret. I'll let you know based on his response." Mom arrives with Sofia, Cristina, and the baby.
"Mom, what do you think about my wedding with Dubois being on February 14th?"
"Really? You've set the date, daughter?"
"Well, I haven't discussed it with Dubois yet. We're considering that date."
"Sounds good. You've waited long enough, daughter."
"Yes, it's about time," says Sofia.
Everyone gathers around Mom, who is holding Alejandro, and they start doting on him. Then Sebastian comes back. "I'm just here for water, don't look at me like that."
...
We're at the basketball game, even Collins and Eduardo joined in. We're waiting for Sebastian with the water, and when he arrives, he says, "The women are planning something; they're whispering a lot."
"You're eavesdropping again, Sebastian. You're so nosy."
"When those women talk quietly, it means they're plotting something."
"Leave them to their business," I tell him.
"So, you're not interested in knowing that I heard the wedding date and that Valeria will consult you about it?"
"Wedding date?"
"Yes, I heard the proposed date."
"And what is it?"
"I'm not telling. I don't want to be nosy."
"Tell me, you idiot!"
"I don't want to say anything. I already feel insulted."
"Sebastian, I'll beat you up. What's the date?"
"Let's let her tell you. I don't want to spoil the surprise."
"Michael, let Valeria tell you. You'll ruin the surprise," adds Ricardo.
"Then if that was your idea, you shouldn't have said anything." Sebastian mocks me, and I'm dying of curiosity, but I know Valeria won't tell me until we're alone.
"Let's keep playing," I tell everyone.
Since I'm not focused, it's embarrassing. Eduardo and Alfred beat us.
...
I can't stand the impatience. Our friends have gone home, and we're in the bedroom. Valeria is feeding the baby. Then we burp him and change his clothes until he falls asleep, but she still doesn't say anything.
"My love, how did it go with Margaret and Hana?"
"Very well, my love."
"What did you talk about?"
"The wedding."
"Which wedding?"
"Ours."
"About what exactly?"
"The date."
"Valeria, I'm getting tired. What date?"
"Our wedding date."
"And what's the proposal?"
"We thought the 14th would be great."
"Valeria, which 14th?"
"February 14th, my love."
"In a month and a half?"
"Yes, what do you think?"
"Wonderful, so we have a date, finally."
"You like that date?"
"What I like is that we have a date, finally, my love." I hug her. "This has been my best birthday. Thank you for that gift, my love. You finally decided!"
