Mating Ceremony
Mated - Again
"Come with me," a voice startled you. You didn’t have to look around to know who it belonged to. It was Wynn, the Lycan King's best friend.
"Why?" you asked under your breath, matching the quiet intensity of his tone.
"Stand up and come with me," Wynn ordered, his voice imbued with a silent force that felt more compelling than even the Lycan King’s command.
Against your will, you rose from your seat and followed him out of the dining hall, each step defying your own intentions. The air between you was charged with an unspoken tension.
"How did you do that?" you demanded, your voice sharp with frustration. The shaman necklace you wore should have protected you, and you'd been humming protective chants under your breath. Yet, his power had broken through your defenses effortlessly.
Wynn remained silent, his stride purposeful. You followed him like a duckling trailing its mother, powerless to resist the pull of his authority. He stopped in front of an imposing wooden door, gesturing for you to enter.
You crossed your arms and refused to budge. "I’m not going in there."
Wynn exhaled slowly, his patience visibly thinning. "Go in," he repeated, his voice carrying a command that rippled through your body.
Despite your defiance, your feet betrayed you, carrying you forward. Rolling your eyes, you stepped inside against your will. The room was dark, the air thick with an unfamiliar energy. Before you could process what was happening, a wave of disorientation swept over you.
When your senses returned, you found yourself standing back in front of the dining hall. A heavy fog clouded your memory of the past few moments. How much time had passed? Why were you here when you distinctly remembered being inside the hall just moments ago?
‘Something is wrong,’ you told yourself, shaking your head as if to clear the lingering haze. Taking a steadying breath, you pushed open the doors and stepped back inside. The warmth and chatter of the dining hall greeted you, but the atmosphere felt oddly distant, as if you were moving through a dream.
Your eyes instinctively sought Elle. You recognized her as someone you know, but you couldn’t place her. Relief briefly washed over you. But before you could make sense of your emotions, an intoxicating scent filled your nostrils. It was earthy and musky, a fragrance that stirred something primal within you. Your gaze shifted involuntarily, drawn toward the source.
Your eyes met Davide’s across the room. The world seemed to tilt on its axis as the word “MATE” roared through your mind, tearing through your soul like a thunderclap. The connection was instant, raw, and overwhelming. Every nerve in your body lit up as though you’d been struck by lightning.
You felt like a teenager experiencing the intensity of first love, reckless and consuming. You couldn’t tear your eyes away from Davide, and it seemed he couldn’t look away from you either. Time slowed, the bustling noise of the hall fading into the background until there was only the two of you, locked in each other’s gaze.
With an effort that felt monumental, you tore your gaze away and made your way back to your seat beside Elle. Your movements felt mechanical, as though some unseen force was guiding you.
“Mom? Are you okay?” Elle’s voice was laced with concern, pulling you out of your daze.
You blinked, looking at her with wide eyes. “I—” you began, but the words faltered on your tongue. How could you explain what had just happened? How could you articulate the depth of the connection you’d just felt with Davide? Besides the fact that you wanted to leap across the table into Davide's arms, the fact that this young woman just called you Mom confused you even more.
Elle reached out and placed a hand on your arm, grounding you. Her touch was warm, reassuring, and it helped steady the storm raging inside you. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” she said, her brow furrowed with worry.
“I’m fine,” you lied, forcing a small smile. “Just… tired, I guess.”
Elle didn’t seem convinced, but she let it go for the moment. Her attention shifted back to the conversation around the table, but you could feel her glancing at you from time to time, her concern evident.
You chanced another look at Davide. He was still watching you, his expression unreadable, but his eyes burned with an intensity that made your heart race. There was no mistaking the pull between you, the invisible thread that bound your souls together. It was undeniable, unyielding. You had no memory of him, but at the same time, just like you knew that you knew Elle somehow, you also knew this man somehow.
‘What does this mean?’ you wondered, your thoughts spinning in circles. The bond of a mate was sacred, a connection that transcended logic and reason. But it was also terrifying in its power. You barely knew this man, but at the same time, you knew him, yet he felt like a part of you, as if he’d always been there, waiting for the moment your paths would cross. You struggled with your feelings: love, lust, passion, but also hate. ‘Why do I hate my mate?’
As the meal continued, you couldn’t shake the feeling that your life had just shifted in a way you couldn’t fully comprehend. Questions swirled in your mind. What did Wynn want with you earlier? Why couldn’t you remember what had happened in that room? And how would this newfound connection with this man change everything?
One thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again... whatever that was.
You watch as the man you just mated with talks to the Lycan King.
'Davide' his name came to your mind but you are not sure how you know it. 'Are we mind linked?' you wonder if you should ask him something.
