Chapter forty-four-Face the devil or the coward
Adira Skylar's Pov:
We all were at the dining room gathered before the fireplace. It was extremely cold for no reason. It was not even winter. I was in Lancelot's arms. I was still quite weak. I couldn't move my left hand. My hand was not paralyzed. For that, I was grateful. It would be difficult for me to continue my daily routine with this hand though. I sighed and closed my eyes snuggling more closer to Lancelot.
Suddenly, loud noise and a yelp caused us to sit up. It fell silent after some seconds again.
"What was the sound about?" Emily asked worriedly.
"Stay here with each other. I will go and check." Snow stated and vanished from there.
We sat quietly waiting for Snow. Another loud noise and some yelling caused us to stand up. Lancelot removed the curtain from the window a bit and peeked outside. He turned around and faced us. "I can not see anything. It's dark." He stated worriedly. I felt worried about Snow who still didn't return. Speaking of him, He came to our sight. He sat down on the floor and breathed heavily. I ran up to him collecting my energy. "He is here. He is destroying everything. He saw me. He is killing everyone standing in his way. He is burning everything. We need to move. Mother Moon is not stopping anything too. We need to move right now. No, you all need to go right now. He is here for me and Lancelot. " He said panicking. Since the time I have met him, I have never seen him panicking or scared. But he was terrified right now.
"Then we need to stay ready. No more running away. Time to face the devil. Time to face the darkness." I said holding his hand. I was beyond scared too but we can't keep running. We need to fight this coward. Lancelot came behind me and hold my shoulder softly. "No more running away but this is not your fight. I can't. No, I won't drag you all in this. I have dragged you all long enough. Leave it to me and Snow." He said. I turned around to face him. "No!" I stated sternly. "Adira. Please? I can't afford to lose any more of my loved ones. I can't." He said holding my face softly. Tears ran down my face. A loud bang makes us startled. I held Lancelot's face. "Why can't you understand that I can't afford to lose you too? I can't lose you. Nor I can lose Snow." I said crying. Before we could say anything else, it went dark. Lancelot pulled me to him and kept me close. We didn't move an inch and stayed like how we were. That familiar song, "Delia's Gone" by Johnny Cash, started to play:
"Delia, oh, Delia,
Delia, all my life.
If I hadn't have shot poor Delia,
I'd a had her for my wife.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
I went up to Memphis,
And I met Delia there.
I found her in her parlor,
And I tied her to her chair.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
She was low down and trifling,
And she was cold and mean,
Kind of evil make me want to grab my submachine.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
First time I shot her,
I shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer,
But with the second shot, she died.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
But Jailer, oh, Jailer,
Jailer, I can't sleep.
'Cause all around the bedside,
I hear the patter of Delia's feet.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
So if your woman's devilish,
You can let her run.
Or you can bring her down and do her
Like Delia got done.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone."
Memories of the last encounter with him flashed before my eyes. I hugged Lancelot in fear. Who was I kidding? I was not ready to face him again. I couldn't face this devil. I was still scared.
There was no sign of his body inside the house. We couldn't see him in the darkness. At least the moonlight from outside was letting us see things enough clearly.
"Guys, we need to hide. But stay together. We can't leave from here even if we wanted to now. So, let's stay hidden and stay safe." Mathew stated. We agreed to his proposal. Even if we dared to leave now, I don't know what that devil would do. Snow started to lead us somewhere composing himself.
He leads us to a door. He tried to open the door but it wouldn't budge. The guys went to help him. But it wouldn't budge. After a few tries, Lancelot couldn't n open this door staying human. So, he turned into his wolf form. The beautiful majestic dangerous red wolf. He ran to the door and pushed it with all the force. The door not only opened but was broken due to the impact. Snow glared at Lancelot making him bark softly.
One by one, we went through the door. It was not a room on the other side, it revealed a big jungle. Lancelot turned to his human self. We kept walking. A sudden burst sound made us look back. The house we were staying in was all on the fire. Then we heard a laugh. In horror, we started to run. But I couldn't move my legs. My legs felt like they were tied up.
"Hop on. Hold tight, darling." Lancelot said making me confused and turned into his wolf form. I looked at him in confusion. He barked at me. I was not going to sit on him. I looked at his horrid hypnotic emerald eyes. He was not messing around. Another laugh so close to my ears made me jump and sit on the red wolf. He started to run. I held him tight. He was so soft. The full moon admired his beauty perfectly. The wind kept blowing in my face. It was getting colder by the second. He stopped in his tracks suddenly. Emily was running alone. Where were the others?
"Emily!" I yelled her name. She turned around. She looked terrified. She ran up to us. "Hop up. Fast." I told her. She nodded and immediately got up. Lancelot started running again. Where were the others? I felt so worried. "Emily! Where are the others?" I shouted to make her hear. "I don't know. We somehow just got lost from each other." She yelled back. Just keep them safe, God.
Suddenly, a tree fell in front of us. Lancelot stopped on his tracks. He tried to run in another direction but a tree again fell. Another two fell in other directions. We were trapped. A laugh ringing in our ears. I held on to Lancelot tightly. I am scared. Emily held me tight. He was here. I could see him. He was walking with all the pride. The moonlight that fell on his face showed how he was smirking, like evil itself. He was singing that same Johnny Cash song loudly,
"I went up to Memphis,
And I met Delia there.
I found her in her parlor,
And I tied her to her chair.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
She was low down and trifling,
And she was cold and mean,
Kind of evil make me want to grab my submachine.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone."
He finished the song and stopped a few feet away from us. He smiled at us. He smiled at me. I looked away in disgust.
"Oh, what a coincidence! I didn't think I would find you guys here!" He exclaimed happily. We kept silent. "You guys don't know any manners. You should reply or answer when someone tells you something." He stated with a smile.
"Leave us alone! You sick old bastard!" Emily shouted behind me making me surprise. That sick old bastard looked like he didn't have any plans to leave us alone. He was laughing.
"And who you might be, beautiful?" He said leaning against the fallen tree. Emily got down from Lancelot's back. Seeing her down, I got down too. Lancelot turned into a human just after we got down.
"Your mother," Emily started looking at the devil angrily. Kristopher laughed.
"Oh, I didn't know my mother was this beautiful. Mother, why didn't you tell me you came back from death? Next time contact me faster. I would love to kill you again." He said looking at Emily. Shivers ran down my spine. Emily hid behind me trying to avoid the devil's stare. He smiled at Emily's action and moved his gaze to me. He smirked. I held Lancelot's hand in fear.
"Don't look at her like that, you bastard!" Lancelot growled at him. Kristopher looked at Lancelot moving his gaze away from him.
"Why? I like to look at beautiful things." He started smiling.
"I will rip your eyes out if you look at her!" Lancelot growled again.
"You are just full of words and nothing else. You cannot do anything." He said and again looked at me ignoring Lancelot. "I told you not to look at her!" Lancelot shouted so loud and leaving my hand he ran towards Kristopher and jumped on him turning to the wolf. But before anything could happen, Lancelot was thrown off in the air. I looked in horror. Lancelot hit the tree behind him and fell. I ran up to him "Lancelot! Don't die on me! You said you will protect me! Please don't leave me with this devil."I cried out trying to wake him. I looked around to call Emily but she was not here making me more scared. I was alone with this devil again. I moved closer to the unconscious Lancelot. A chuckle escaped Kristopher's lips. I cried in horror.
"I have put that girl to sleep there. Don't worry about her." He stated. I didn't look at him. I buried my face in Lancelot's chest in fear. "Lancelot, please don't leave me alone with him," I whispered crying.
"Come with me. I couldn't play with you that day. Oh, I am sorry for hurting you. You see, I am very violent when I get mad." He said behind me. I could feel he was smirking. I kept quiet. But I was jerked away from Lancelot. I screamed in pain because he pulled me up by my injured hand. He seemed satisfied.
"Serves you right for ignoring me." He said leaving my hand. "You know why am I doing this? I told you that day. I need power. More power. And if I kill these low-life wolves, I will be provided with more power. They are my sacrifice. I thought I will just kill Snow and Lancelot. But you. You seemed to come out as more treasure. You are the soul mate of Lancelot. It means you have more power than I can ever imagine. So, I need to erase you from the picture before those two guys. I am finally gonna achieve my dream. I am so happy!" He exclaimed clapping his hands. I looked up at him in horror. "Just who are you?" I asked. He bent down to my level.
"I am Kristopher Davies. The most handsome and cute man is all time." He said smirking at me. I looked at him in disgust. His expressions were all gone now. "Now come with me." He said dragging me with him. "No! Please! I beg you!" I shouted crying.
"You don't seem to be begging. You are not on your knees. And begging is done by kneeling." He said not stopping.
"Lancelot! Help me! "I shouted for help. Kristopher did something and the trees just vanished that were blocking the path. He kept walking. I kept screaming for help. "God! Please don't do this again! Don't let him win! Please!" I prayed to God.
Kristopher stopped in his tracks, making me hit my head on his back. I looked in front of him. Lancelot was standing. His eyes were hard, narrowed, the blood staining him only increasing the intensity of his stare.
"Give her back right now," he growled. "Now!" He jumped on Kristopher. I moved back. I hid behind a tree. Kristopher kept throwing punches at Lancelot's body. Lancelot did the same. "You low life! How dare you even touch my body!" Kristopher yelled. "How dare you touch my Adira, you coward!" Lancelot yelled back and turned into a wolf. He now was hovering over Kristopher who seemed to be quite terrified suddenly. Why wasn't he using his magic? He was looking behind Lancelot. I followed his stare and there stood a beautiful silver wolf. He howled loudly. One after another, more howls were getting heard. Kristopher used his magic struggling and pushed away Lancelot from him. He stood up. The silver wolf came and stood beside Lancelot. They started barking at Kristopher who seemed quite scared now. Wasn't he acting all mighty? Why was he scared now?
"I will kill you all! I will take my power no matter what!" Kristopher screamed and did something that made the whole place shake. I flinched in fear.
Seriously, what was this guy?
The two wolves in front of him didn't seem terrified. I could even see them smirk. What is happening? Suddenly, someone tapped on my shoulder. Startled, I looked at my side. It was the Mathew. He was breathing heavily. "They made him scared," he said trying to catch his breath. I touched his face. "Are you okay? Where are the other two? Are they okay?" I asked worriedly. "He held my hand. "I am okay. I have been running to find you that's why I am out of breath. Others are okay. They found Emily and took her away from here. I am here to take you. Come on." He said trying to get up. I pulled him down. "What do you mean come on? I am not leaving these two alone here." I stated sternly. I know I wasn't a big help to them. I wasn't even fighting that devil. Still, I wanted to stay and make sure they both were okay. "Then I can't leave you behind alone here. I am staying." He said making me smile at his words.
"Mathew? You said he was afraid. They made him afraid. How?"
"Snow and we three were ahead from you remember? Emily got separated on the way and then we four were running to find her. We stopped in front of a sculpture. It was wearing a necklace. A small one with a beautiful locket. It was a blue moon. Snow was happy suddenly seeing it. He softly pulled it away from the sculpture and put it on his neck. He said he had been finding it for years. It was Mother Moon's locket that was a barrier for Kristopher. There are powers inside. But only a wife or soul mate of a wolf can release its power and kill Kristopher. Where will we find her now?" Mathew said. I processed his words. I am the soul mate of a wolf. I can kill him. "Mathew we need to take that locket. I am Lancelot's soulmate. I can kill him. I can kill Kristopher. " I said. Mathew looked at me with wide eyes in realization.
A sudden growl caused me to look before me. Snow laid there breathing heavily. His beautiful silver body was now getting covered with blood. I panicked. Kristopher had a sword with him somehow now. He was laughing like crazy. Lancelot howled. Kristopher was trying to run away and Lancelot followed him. He moved away from there. We ran to Snow. He was breathing heavily. "Snow! Don't close your eyes!" I panicked. He turned into a human. " Adira, run to them! Take this. Only you can kill him. Help Lancelot. I won't die. I will be okay. Go!" He said coughing. I nodded and ran gathering all my energy to them leaving Mathew with Snow. I kept running in the dark. Where did they go? A loud crash signaled me about their presence. I ran there. Reaching there, I saw Lancelot was laying down. He was groaning. Kristopher was standing on top of him with his sword laughing. "Don't move! I will kill you if you move!" I yelled. He smirked at me evilly. I showed him the locket and his smirk vanished. " Move and you die!" I shouted in fear. His smirk came back in a second. "Oh my dear love, an innocent soul like you can never kill me." He stated. I looked at the locket in my hand. What am I supposed to do with it? "I can. I will! Move away from him!" I said nearing them. "Oops. Can't help it." He said and pushed the sword in Lancelot's wolf making him howl in pain. "No!" I screamed. Kristopher laughed and moved from Lancelot.
I ran to Lancelot and pulled him in my embrace. "No! Baby, stay with me please! God! Someone help me! Lancelot! Baby! No! You can't leave me too. You promised. You jerk! Wake up! " I screamed crying. Kristopher was laughing behind me. I looked at him in hatred. "Mother, destroy this devil! Give him twice the pain! Make him die!" I yelled at the sky crying.
Suddenly, it started raining. A scream escaped from Kristopher's lips. He kept screaming. His body was being torn apart. I looked away in horror. The locket in my hand glowed brightly.
After some time, Kristopher was dead. Not even an inch of him was seen. I kept crying holding Lancelot in my arms in the rain. He wasn't breathing anymore. "Make him alive! God! Don't do this to me! Please! Don't take him away! Bring him back! Baby, come back, please! Wake up! You pervert wake up! You can't leave me too." I screamed crying with him in my embrace.
He was dead.
