Chapter 41 I'd kiss you
Nelson took William to the bathroom, but what he didn't expect was that he would come back to meet a man seated next to Irene, flirting with her. And what annoyed him the most was her smile and the stunned look on her face.
Just when he was starting to fully immerse himself in the belief that whatever act she had been putting on for the past few days wasn't a stunt to get him to divorce her.
He had just gotten off the call with Hillard while in the restroom. They had booked Irene an appointment with the best neurologist in the country.
After thinking about it for a while, Nelson pushed the idea of this Irene in front of him being from the past to the back of his mind.
He wasn't the type to believe in the supernatural.
He was really starting to learn about the fact that she had a brain injury. One that made her forget all her memories for the last few years.
But he was still open. The other theory was still there, just at the back of her mind.
But now, after seeing her with that guy, memories of Irene... The one he knew, came back to him.
This was how it started... From flirting with other men, to having a lover... To wanting to divorce him.
He felt like he was experiencing a sense of deja Vu.
As Nelson continued at Irene, it made her extremely uncomfortable.
Finally, he began walking towards her... Technically, William walked towards her, but Nelson held his hand so the kid dragged his father along.
When they got close enough, Irene asked.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Her tone was innocent, as though she didn't know what she had done wrong.
Well... She didn't do anything wrong... Or did she?
She glanced at William, who had not unhooked his hand from his dad's, and had them crossed on his chest like a grown-up as he glared at his mother.
She was talking to another man... Not just talking but smiling at him. He was furious.
"Even you Willam?" Irene asked, surprised that even the kid was angry with her. "What's going on with you too?" She asked again with a light laugh, trying to brighten up the atmosphere a little bit.
It didn't work. Instead, it just made everything a lot more awkward.
"Who was that man?" Irene suddenly heard William ask, his tone sounding so grown-up.
She blinked, her mind quickly thinking of which man the kid was talking about. It took two seconds before she remembered the handsome man who had just given her his number moments ago.
"I don't know." She shook her head finally, clenching the napkin tighter in her hands. "Just someone who found me attractive and walked over... It was cute." She said the last sentence with a small smile on her lips... A picture of the handsome man came back to her head.
That smile on her face made Nelson's face grow even darker. "No it isn't." He stated firmly, taking a step towards Irene, his gaze never leaving her. "In case you've forgotten, you're a Mrs., which means you're married. To me."
Nelson was intimidating.
Irene couldn't help but feel intimidated.
She stepped backwards, careful not to hit the table. She shook her head in response to his words. "No... No way."
His words sounded as though he was saying that he owned her.
He didn't own her.
"I'm not your Irene, which means I'm not married to you. I may be in her body, and this universe... But I am not married to you." Irene said, raising her tone... Her breathing increasing slowly.
'I will never be married to you.'
Nelson scoffed.
At least she was still the same person. She still insisted on not being his wife... At least she hadn't gone back to being his wife who wanted to leave him so badly.
Nelson felt a bit relieved, but he couldn't just let the matter go. Not now.
He took another step towards Irene,
"Okay, let's say you are not her." He began, cocking his head to the side. "Do you think that gives you the right to flirt with whoever you want to, in her body?"
Her body...
Oh... Irene has forgotten that this was someone else's life. She couldn't mess with it.
Even though that would probably be what the real Irene would do... The one from this universe, but she was trying to fix things.
Still.. she hadn't expected Nelson to say that.
Ever since she told him that she wasn't his Irene, he had been calm about it. Like he didn't care about her enough to want to bring her back.
"I thought you..."
"Irene Walter Clark, you are my wife..." Nelson stated in a clean and firm tone, leaving no room for argument. "And my wife doesn't go around flirting with other men."
After saying that, Nelson turned to leave.
William, who overheard most of the conversation but understood very little, also turned, following his father.
He was still so annoyed with his mum.
She was supposed to only be with his daddy. Just his daddy... Nobody else.
Now that she had been showing him love and care that he hadn't received in a while, he wanted to ask for more. And that more was that she should never leave his daddy.
Irene rolled her eyes as she watched Nelson and his son walk away.
She let out a low grunt, turning to the table to pick up her small purse before following behind them, murmuring under her breath. "Really? You say that yet your wife has a lover. She even wants to divorce you, yet you're giving me attitude."
Nelson heard her and suddenly stopped, before turning around. Irene felt his gaze and raised her gaze... The look in his eyes made her freeze. "What did you say?"
It seemed as though she had struck a nerve by mentioning the divorce.
Even Williams noticed that his father looked a bit more angrier than before. He tugged at his sleeves, looking at him with his big blue eyes.
"Daddy..."
This matter was getting out of hand... If it wasn't that this was an upend restaurant, there would have been a crowd already gathered to watch the scene.
But people in the restaurant were a lot more civilized. They stared at them, listened to... But no one bothered to get up from their seats.
Irene's heart skipped a beat at Nelson's gaze.
She should just shut up. Maybe until his anger passes. That was what her mind and head told her, but she had hardly been listening to it these days.
"This is bullshit." She complained, her eyes becoming moist as though she had been greatly wronged. "I didn't even flirt with the guy, he came to meet me." She said in a low tone and sniffled, before meeting Nelson's gaze again. "Did you see me stand up from where I sat, no. Did you see me give him my number, no. Did you see me giggle like a fucking slut to get his attention because he looked handsome..."
Nelson shut his eyes... And took in a deep breath... She was arguing like a... Like a damn teenager.
With tears so he wouldn't be able to do anything. But this time the tears didn't fall, they just made her eyes moist and beautiful.
Oh... But there was one thing he could do.
Nelson snapped his eyes open, he took a few steps bridging the space between them, and he threatened. "Irene if you don't shut up, I swear... I'm going to kiss you."
"N..." Irene how as just about saying no immediately clasped her mouth shut.
'What did he just say?' She looked at him in shock.
Seeing that she wasn't speaking anymore. Nelson smirked... It still worked.
"Good."
He grabbed her hand and began leading her towards the exit, his other hand holding William. "We're going back to the hotel."
