Chapter 30
KHLOE GILES
It was near midnight when we finally got back to the catacombs. Scott was in full health, mom and dad were sleeping. Seth had returned with a list of everything we needed. Much to his disdain, Enola made Scotty rest in a cabin as well and made him take potions that assure a full recovery. Sara was pouring over everything that Seth brought home and piecing the spell together.
“I think we have everything we need.” She stood back, stretching before she turned to face me.
“Great. Get some rest and we’ll leave out first thing in the morning. We’ll take Will and Sonia with us for extra fire power in case anything goes wrong.”
“That isn’t exactly a possibility.”
“Why not?”
“The spell has to be cast on the strongest hour of the full moon. Tonight is the full moon, and it should reach its highest peak in about….forty minutes.” Sara glanced down at her watch.
“Well okay then, be ready to go in forty. I’m going to check on Scotty and make sure he’s okay before I go.” A look crossed Sara’s face, something between surprise and concern, but she didn’t say anything else, and I didn’t ask. I found my way into the cabin where Scotty was resting. He’d flopped back on the bed and his eyes were closed. He was asleep, but he looked dead.
A sharp gasp left me as I remembered the feel of holding Scotty in my arms as he took his last breath. Scotty sat up, his eyes wide and surprised before the fall on me. Without a word he stood and made his way over, pulling me into his arms. I buried my face in his chest and held on to him. We stood like that, me pressed against the wall, Scotty’s strong arms holding me tight, before I finally pulled back.
“You scared me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I thought I lost you.”
“I’m really sorry Khloe.”
“Don’t ever scare me like that again.” His hand brushed along my cheek, tugging my chin upwards to look at him.
“Hey. I’m right here. I’ve got you and I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. Clear?” His fingertips brushed along my skin. They were strong, they were warm, and I nodded. I believed him.
“We’re leaving soon to go to the fairy kingdom.”
“Good. I’ll be ready to go in five.” He pulled back, but I stopped him.
“I don’t want you to go.” The words left before I could stop them. He pulled back and frowned.
“Why?”
“You just died. Don’t you think you need to rest a little?” I asked, running my hand over the clothed muscles of his chest.
“Khloe, I’m fine. In fact, I’m better than ever. I’m no good to anyone siting around here and doing nothing, especially when all I’ll be able to think about is you anyways. Wes isn’t here to protect you and I know that I’m not some bad ass witch and you are, but if something happens to you and I’m not there, I will never forgive myself. I care about you, a lot Khloe Giles and I will follow you into battle if it means making sure you live. Got it?” I couldn’t speak, afraid my voice might betray me, so I nodded. That’s enough for Scotty though and he bent down, our lips brushing together. He pulled back, looking at me, big blue eyes silently asking permission. I chased after the kiss and he took that as a yes, pressing his lips to mine again.
His kisses were warm, passionate, firm. One hand gripped my hip, strong, protective, and tender. His free hand cupped my cheek. The aftermath of his touch left my skin on fire. Maybe it had been too long since I have been kissed or maybe I was just missing Wes, but every move Scotty made set me alive.
“Knock, knock.” The sound of Sara’s voice snapped us apart. We pulled back, both panting for air. I was already cold with the lack of his touch. Sara grinned.
“Whenever you two are finished with your make out session, we’re ready to go.” She gave me a wink and then walked off. Scotty and I exchanged looks and grinned.
“Ready to go?” He asked, hand falling onto my cheek again, reigniting the fire of his touch.
“Ready.” I agreed, taking his hand in mind. We walked out together and join the circle of people waiting.
“Elona and Keith are going to oversee the spell to make sure everything goes right.” Sara said as we walk up.
“Great. We need to make room for one more. Scotty will be joining us.” I told Elona.
“Is he healthy enough?” Sara asked skeptically.
“I’m fine.” Scotty rolls his eyes.
“His strength should hold up just fine.” Elona agreed, “He has made a perfect recovery.”
“If that is the case then Sonia and I will stay here. Help make sure that things run smoothly while you are gone. That is, of course, if it is alright with you Miss. Khloe.” Will said, giving me a bow.
“Of course.” I gave a nod of agreement, shifting a little.
“We really should start getting ready to go.” Sara said, checking her watch again.
“Yes. I have already made the potions you will need to drink, and I have translated the spell for you as well.” Elona said, handing us each a bottle of potion and a piece of paper with the spell written on it.
“Now, on my command you must drink the potion and say the spell.” Elona directed. We formed a circle around her, and she stood in the middle, eyes closed as silence enveloped us for a moment. Seconds ticked by like minutes, and I wonder if Elona really knew what she was doing. I started to ask, but she raised her hand.
“Now.” She commanded. Simultaneously, we opened our potion bottles, tossing them back and began to chant the spell.
“Nullam a fulminis,
Viribus terra, aer, aqua, ignis,
Dicitur a centro mundi,
Nobis ad nostram petitionem,
Mater: Mitte nos in nidum.”
