+Chapter 40+

Mari gasped at the familiar scent and the spark that King Lucien’s touch lit up inside of her. She went rigid and her eyes wide, the book in her hands falling to the ground with a soft thud. “Y-Your Hi-Highness,” She stumbled over her words, painfully aware of their close proximity.

She felt him gently press her into the shelf, and she had a difficult time focusing on the fact that she should be trying to get out of her current situation.

Her breath hitched when King Lucien cupped her jaw and tilted her head to the side for easy access to her neck. “You know, for a fiery witch, you lost your moxie rather quickly.”

His words inflamed her for some reason; the entire situation was unfair to her. She lived her whole life not knowing she was a witch and after her birthday, her apartment burnt to the ground, then she was branded a criminal and hunted down by the two werewolf Kings. Ever since then, she had been held hostage by them both while being forced to fight dangerous creatures.

And even while she was handed these unfair cards, she stepped carefully around both Kings, careful not to make a wrong move, careful not to upset them…

She spun around in King Lucien’s hold and glared up at him, her hazel eyes pools of liquid gold. “Is that all you think witches are? Impassioned creatures without logical thinking?”

Lucien’s smirk was a little crooked, “Would you like to prove me wrong? Little witch?”

Mari barely processed his words, the term he used for her sparking both anger and desire. She was thinking logically right up till the point King Lucien closed the distance between them.

The kiss was cold at first and then all at once it was searing hot; *ironic that a witch could get burnt*. Mari couldn’t say why she returned the South King’s kiss, maybe she had been saying her truth when she said witches were impassioned creatures.

She had been inside a shell all of her life; the first crack on her shell appeared on the night she turned twenty-one and in the days that came afterwards, deeper and deeper cracks formed.

Mari sank her fingers into her King’s long hair, back arched as she fought for dominance. She wasn’t trying to prove something to Lucien, rather she was letting her emotions run free and leading with her heart.

Lucien smiled into the kiss, digging his fingers into the soft skin of her waist, exposed by the little top she wore. He had just wanted to toy with the witch a bit, he hadn’t expected to awaken a fiery minx in the midst of smoldering ashes.

Kade couldn’t say why he was restless, Lucien had obviously being messing with him when he proposed that, and he should be more worried at how his possessiveness over Marion grew every day.

Yet he found himself pacing down the hallway in front of his bedroom, walking past Lucien’s and Marion’s rooms unable to tell what was going on behind their closed doors. He had no interest in having a conversation with the aggravating South King because he didn’t want to lose his temper and sock him in the jaw, and he couldn’t see Marion because he had no reason to.

A nosy maid noticed him and unprompted, she walked up to her King with a nervous smile. “Your Highness? Are you perhaps searching for Miss Mari?” She asked boldly for all her anxious mannerisms. “Because she’s at the library,” She answered her own question without any urging from King Kade, bowing and walking off triumphantly.

Kade’s brows dropped low on his head, he hadn’t seen Lucien and Marion for hours but he hadn’t been bothered much about it because he knew that Marion was safe in her room but now that he knew that she wasn’t…

He stalked over to Lucien’s room and all but kicked down the door, not at all surprised to find it empty. That was his cue to hurry over to the library, a dark uneasy feeling building in his middle.

Kade knew what to expect and at the same time he was completely stunned by he sight he came to see at the library. It wasn’t that he felt betrayed by Lucien because you had to trust someone for that to happen but that he didn’t expect to react the way he did.

With how possessive Marion made him feel, he expected that he would want to rip out Lucien’s neck… well he still felt that way but even more than that, the sight of Marion arched up against him and his hands under her top made his blood heat up, and without realizing it, his legs already moved.

Mari felt like she just pulled her head out of water, she was breathless and her vision was swimming. She took a step back to try to clear her head, still trying to hang onto a thin string of sanity that was telling her not to make such a grave mistake.

Mari felt herself bump into a familiar chest and immediately mentally scolded herself at being able to find such intimate details about both Kings familiar, had she really spent that much time around them?

After getting over that initial bump, Mari’s eyes widened in horror - King Kade was right behind her! And with King Lucien in front of her, she was trapped between both Kings in such a questionable position.

She slowly looked up from South to North King to find them glaring daggers at each other, not quite sure how to explain the situation she found herself in. It did help the fog in her head clear up but just as she was about to slip away, two hands held her in place.

Mari could feel their hands hot and heavy on her hips, it made her knees weak and her heart race. She could feel herself swallow when King Lucien wrapped his long fingers around her neck.

“Running away again? I thought you had given that up?” Lucien taunted, applying pressure.

Kade reached out with his free hand and held onto Lucien’s wrist, his grip deadly. It wasn’t easy to process thoughts with the outline of Marion’s body up against him but he had been thinking, and trying to come to a conclusion he could accept.

It was either they both had the witch or neither of them did. He could see the predatory look in Lucien’s eyes when he latched onto his wrist, he knew it all too well because it was the same one he was sporting.
