Chapter 99 Buried Confession
Hanging her head low with inexplicable dejection, tears smeared all over her pretty face, soft sobbing echoing in the lounge.
While Luke stood stunned, he anticipated her to hold immense feelings for William.
But never expected THIS much.
“And you know the worst part?”
Sniffling, roughly wiping her tears with her sleeves, forming a miserable smile, she confessed another reality.
“From the beginning, all my teenage years, our relationship, after the misunderstanding, to till this moment… I still do,”
Over and over again, Arabella failed to leave him. She couldn’t.
“I am simply incapable of not loving him! And the fact he doesn’t love me back is driving me fucking crazy!!”
And frustrated by this fact, she punched the ground, releasing a thundering cry that displayed her vulnerability.
“He… doesn’t?”
“No!”
Her feelings bargained her self-respect, they made her weak, they made her hopeless.
Stunned, tears glistening in Luke’s eyes. For a heartbeat a glimpse of compassion evoked but-
‘Why come to me when you love him?’
Killed his mercy and he ended up glaring with resentment. Curling his hand in a fist, he listened to her painful truth.
“It kills me each passing second! Your curse worked! I am being punished for what I did to you!”
Failing to carry the ache of her emotions all alone on her shoulders, she confessed her darkest feelings openly, without concern for any consequences.
“And this is my punishment… the worst after doing everything and abandoning all for him…”
And what actually led her to the edge, to unshackle her tongue when all the years she didn’t?
This- “.... That your brother doesn’t love me back, Luke, and probably never will,”
Finding it extremely hard to believe, especially when William risked his unbreakable bond with his siblings for her, Luke couldn’t help but to mock.
“Is this another lie? Because we all have seen my brother’s madness for you,”
“It’s not a lie, what you see is for the world. An act,” She whispered back desperately.
The anguish to not have William after everything was crystal-clear.
And it pierced Luke. It made him angrier.
She was sharing her agony without realizing she lied to the man before her, she cheated, she was never sincere.
He couldn’t shred mercy, even if he wanted to.
Sniffling, Arabella didn’t seek compassion either, she just wanted to cease the weight on her soul and crawled, leaning her back against the couch.
Hugging her knees to her chest, gaze overflowing with regret of the choices she made that led her nowhere in the end.
What did she gain? Nothing?
“The one for whom I abandoned my world- left me too. I am left with nothing, Luke,”
Contemplating her condition, Luke could tell she wasn’t lying.
“If you are telling the truth then…”
Inhaling sharply, he shifted to his knee, holding her chin forcefully to make her stare at him too.
He hissed, “That’s what you fucking deserve, Arabella,”
He wanted her to notice the devastation she caused him too.
To take the credibility of his anguish as well and shed more tears, to be more anguished.
“You devastated my life, you cheated on me, you were never sincere to me. I… I can’t believe you can be so… selfish,”
Pushing her back, he stood up, wiping his hand with his shirt to show his repugnance.
Wiping his tears, he chuckled dryly, taunting her.
“Are you happy after shattering our lives with ‘your’ obsession? Is it worth it?”
“No, It’s not….”
“And you know what?”
Narrowing his eyes ruthlessly, from the bottom of his heart, after realizing his worth was zero, Luke cursed her.
“I still pray the one you wanted so madly, so badly, so passionately, so desperately will ‘never’ be yours. May William will never be yours, forever,”
“Why don’t you just kill me instead?” She asked back immediately, breathlessly.
Luke stepped back with incredulity, “Do you… love him this much?”
“More than one can possibly imagine,”
She smiled, widely. Madness glistened in her eyes that got lost in William and never returned.
“Do you have your answers already? Or do you want to know more?”
“What is left to ask anymore?” He growled.
Running his hand through his hand with exasperation and plopped on the couch, farthest from her.
“It was my fault, my foolishness…”
Clenching his fist, utterly powerless when it was nothing from her side, holding any expectations was futile.
Everything made sense to him now.
“However,” Inhaling, Arabella lifted her hefty gaze and swallowed hard.
“I know you hate me now, I know you will never forgive me, curse me till the end. I accept it all, Luke, but,”
Yet being fatuous in love, she ended up joining her hands before Luke in a begging manner, requesting him politely.
“I beg of you, do not hate your brother because of my actions. He adores his siblings, you guys are his world, do not blame him for my… manipulation,”
Taking the blame on her account, she refused to lower his position in their hearts, unable to witness drifting apart from his beloved siblings.
To ‘save’ at the very least, one thing… His bond with his siblings.
“Don’t act like you care so much about our bond when you are the reason it broke, almost,” Luke hissed.
“So please don’t hate William, it was all on me, my fault, don’t be angry with him, please, please, please,” She begged, failing to look at him.
“Tch,” He scoffed, turning his head away, not even wanting to spare a glance at her.
Luke might have come to kill the sting of his heart but Arabella killed…. Everything.
And it made his heart burn.
He cursed her wholeheartedly, that her heart shatters like him, that she goes through the same heartache too.
Indirectly, she was going through it.
Impotent to share further words, they sat in silence but hearing the elevator’s sound, she knew William had arrived in a hopeless hurry.
And not wanting to repeat what happened last time, she forced her weakened body to stand.
“William is here,”
Speaking quietly, she wiped her tears and walked to the room and locked herself in as Luke sat silently with an irrecoverable scar on his soul.
