Chapter 55 The Man I Resent
Peach was in her magnificent cabin, leaned on her seat comfortably, or at least she tried, but couldn't.
Luke’s condition left a deep impact on her mind and soul.
‘I wanted the worst for him then why am I with him when I should be laughing instead?’
‘Why am I not happy?’
Thinking furiously, she slammed her hand on the table.
“Fuck!”
Shutting her eyes to discard such perceptions but to no avail as the ache grew and she recalled old times where hatred slowly strengthened.
‘I, Peach Harrison, had everything I possibly desired. Parents who gave me anything I pointed my finger at, only child, the star child,’
Going back to the times where she was enrolled at the best university for business studies to the betterment of her company.
‘All the luxuries I could possibly imagine, all our businesses were supposed to be mine. I was above in all senses… until-’
“I am sorry, Princess, I couldn’t see you, I wish you the best day of the school!” Her father laughed.
“University, Papa,”
“Ah, I can’t believe my daughter has grown this much. Anyways, I gotta go, bye.”
“But-” He didn’t listen and cut the call.
‘It was not that I had a bad father or he didn’t love me, they both adored me but in my memories… there aren't anywhere,’
And the emerald-eyed woman glanced over her shoulder, finding another fresher like her there, he seemed slightly older than her, talking over the phone happily.
She was eighteen, he was twenty.
“Yeah, yeah, I am there. I will be fine, William,”
He laughed while talking to William who was working wholeheartedly for his siblings.
“Yeah, you don’t have to worry about fees- they are giving the topper scholarship, I will apply for it,”
Luke sighed, hoping to convince William who was willing to sell his property for his better education.
“You focus on work, you have already done enough, okay?”
Speaking softly, Luke reassured him and chuckled, “Okay, take care. Bye,”
Cutting the call, he glanced at the university, taking a deep breath, stretching his arms out with a joyous thought-
‘Time to live the life I couldn’t. To have fun and not waste my years,’ He thought happily and honestly that was what William desired too.
Peach merely watched from afar with a grimace with a sour thought-
‘My parents couldn’t talk for more than a minute and he talking for so long with a damn sibling,’
Since she had none, she failed to grasp the attachment towards one too and scoffed.
Holding her head high in might, she walked away.
Eventually Luke emerged as the star student, the most popular guy at school, attracting everyone possible.
“Luke, can you help me?”
“Sure,” He smirked.
“I was wondering if you could meet me after class, Luke,”
“Sure, I would love to,”
Even the teachers, “Ah, Luke is the best student I have had in years. I am so proud of him, I know he will be successful in life,”
“This is your kindness, Sir, I also pray for that too,” He laughed sheepishly.
Having an immaculate image, being the peak of everyone’s gaze, living his life to the fullest and since William’s business grew too.
“Are you sure I can go for the Europe trip, William?” Luke asked casually, laughing with his friends.
“Sure. These are your years to enjoy. Have fun,”
“Thanks,”
“And don’t worry about the expense,”
“I know,” He smirked.
He became the rich spoiled brat, to live the life ripped from the siblings due to their strict Auntie, he revived his teenage, his childhood in these years.
Too much to a certain girl’s discontent, her jaw clenched.
Grinning all the time, being at the center of attention, he began to prick her eyes.
One day, she was with her father on the call, “Yeah, Papa, listen-”
“Princess, I will talk to you later, I am a bit busy. Okay? Bye, love you,”
“...Okay,”
‘I had everything… everything-’
Sighing, she frowned, holding the script in her hands roughly, almost ripping them with tears in the corner, hands shaking.
She glanced to the side of the hero of her play who was on a video call with his brother to show him off his costume.
‘-Still he was complete but I was incomplete.’
“Hey, William, I hope I am not disturbing you,”
He chuckled with his eyes affixed on the file, still working, “Of course not, I am always available for you,”
“I know that… anyways, a fest is happening in my sector.”
“A fest?”
“Yeah, I am thinking about taking part in a play, do you think you will be able to make time for it? I want you watch how awesome I am going to look as a hero,”
Pausing, he finally lifted his gaze and saw him dress as the hero, laughing a little but encouraging him nonetheless.
“My, my, hero? Sure, I would love to see that.”
“Great. Talk to you later, bye,”
Cutting the call, he turned to Peach who was gripping the script, approaching her with his impish grin, poking her forehead to get her attention.
“Yo, give me the script. The hero needs to practice,” He spoke dramatically.
‘And I began to resent him for that, he had what I didn’t,’
“What are you? A kid who is calling his parents?” She scoffed, throwing the papers at him rudely as they scattered on the ground.
“A little appreciation from your loved ones always feels good, Peach. But, oh, how will you understand?”
And being an asshole, he stopped right at her face after picking them up from the ground, hitting her most sensitive spot.
“You have to make appointment to meet your own family after all,”
After worsening her state, he walked away playfully, uncaring of the tears that twinkled in her eyes.
Causing her to curse him endlessly in her heart, praying he wouldn’t smile for too long.
“Damn him….”
‘I hated him, I hated him from the bottom of my heart… then after being jealous, of hating him all this time,.’
Finding herself back to the present, a tear gleamed on her cheek which she smeared, resenting it as a question bubbled unwillingly.
‘Why did his heartbreak hurt me today? Why to find him agonized, agonized me?’
“Shit, why am I remembering this now?”
Not thinking twice, failing to disappear the moments with him, she grabbed her car keys and went to see Luke.
“Tsk, never I thought I would do this,”
Entering his office, she asked the receptionist, “Where is Luke?”
“Sir isn’t here, Ma’am. He left,”
“Left? Where?”
“He said he is going to attend Mr. Jed’s party in London this year. He left in the morning for London,”
And her eyes widened in dread to perceive how her one action of not offering hand led, steps retreating with horror.
“Fuck…”
Jed’s party was supposed to be the biggest party for all businessmen, extremely good for making connections but Peach knew it wasn’t about good bonding or boost for the career.
Luke went there for William’s bride.
Gritting her teeth, she knew she must stop Luke from interacting with William and fall further into depression.
Accordingly to her- ‘They had created their new world together. Seeing them happy would shatter Luke, I can’t let this happen,’
Cursing, she immediately rushed, ordering her assistant to prepare her jet as well to leave for London with determination of not letting him drown.
While wondering at the same time-
‘Why am I doing all this for him?!’
