96. A Secret to the Rhythm of Music

96. A Secret to the Rhythm of Music
The music reverberated throughout the enchanted hall of Arkanum, pulsing with magic and electricity. The floating torches shed golden and dancing light, reflecting in the enchanted stained-glass windows, and the sound of laughter, steps and incantations flowed through the air like ancient perfume.
Pandora walked among the guests, dressed in a delicate shimmering dress of amethyst color, her hair caught in a loose braid adorned with small enchanted flowers that glittered lightly. Her eyes were looking for something or perhaps someone instinctively. Thiely was on the other side of the hall, distracted in a conversation with Lysara and Amy.
That’s when Pandora saw her.
Persephone.
Leaning against one of the white marble columns, her wine-red dress contrasted with her golden skin and hair caught in a high and unpretentious bun. The amber eyes met those of Pandora, and a smile appeared, full of intention.
She approached with the feline elegance of a hunter.
"You look beautiful tonight, Pandora," she said with her husky voice of restrained charm.
"Thank you... you too. It’s... different." Pandora replied, trying to hide the sudden flushing.
"It’s the party," replied Persephone, turning slightly to show off her dress. "Or maybe it’s just the effect of finally deciding what I want."
"And... what do you want?" Pandora asked, feeling her heart racing.
Persephone extended his hand.
"Dancing with you."
Pandora hesitated for a moment. Not out of fear, but in anticipation. She looked quickly around, as if expecting to be watched by jealous eyes. Thiely seemed distracted, and Raven was talking to Melindra on the other side of the hall.
"I would love to," he said, accepting Persephone’s hand.
The two went to the center of the hall, where couples whirled under an illusory starry sky. As their bodies approached, the magic in the air seemed to intensify. Persephone drove with naturalness, his firm touch on the waist of Pandora, and his eyes did not deviate.
"You avoid me, but your body always responds," said Persephone with a provocative smile.
"You like to tease, don’t you?"
"I like to see you lose control just for a few seconds."
Pandora laughed, nervous. But there was something there... an unexpected heat. An old connection that had never been broken.
"Why now?" he murmured.
"Because I’m tired of waiting. And because tonight..." Persephone approached, sticking her lips to the fairy’s ear "... I want to show you something."
Pandora felt a shiver go up the spine.
"What is it?"
"Trust me," whispered Persephone, retreating with an enigmatic smile. "Come with me."
The dance is over, but not the spell.
Pandora followed Persephone through the side corridor of the hall. The echoes of the party were left behind, giving way to the soft sound of hasty steps and the restless beat of two hearts. The magic torches were fading behind them as if the night itself sealed that moment.
Persephone opened the door of the room she shared with Pandora, gently pushing her in.
Pandora entered, her heart racing. The room was in a soft, greenish light that seemed to float from the ceiling. An aroma of fresh leaves and wine hovered in the air. The door closed behind her with a silent clatter.
She turned, staring at Persephone.
"So... what do you want to show me?"
The smile of the elf was indecipherable.
"Something that only you can understand."
The silence in the room was not absence of sound, but presence of something deeper. The soft lights floated like enchanted fireflies, painting Pandora’s skin with shades of jade and amber. Persephone approached slowly, as if he feared to scare away a dream.
"You can still leave," he said, the voice lower than a whispered spell.
"I don’t want to," answered Pandora, firm, though her heart was a storm of wings.
Persephone touched his face with the fingertips, as if studying an ancient map in search of a treasure. His yellow eyes were lost in the violet eyes of the fairy, and time seemed to stretch until it disintegrated.
The kiss came as a long-held answer. Soft at first. Then hungry. Persephone slid his hands around Pandora’s waist, drawing her closer, and the world was reduced to heat between their bodies. The clothes of both seemed to evaporate between kisses and caresses, each touch more intimate and daring than the previous one, as if they traced on skin what the words could not say.
Pandora gasped between sighs, the eyes half opened like windows of an enchanted temple. The touch of Persephone was liquid poetry: sometimes fire that burned, sometimes honey that calmed. The bed welcomed them with a whisper, and there, among sheets embroidered with ancestral magic, their bodies intertwined like roots under the enchanted land.
There was no hurry. Only the old dance of two souls that had been searching for centuries.
When everything ceased, the fury, the desire, the spell, they remained embraced, breathing the same air, as if the heart of one had learned to beat in the measure of the other.
Persephone stood up slowly and walked to a drawer of dark wood. From there, he took out a small box wrapped in magic moss. He went back to bed and sat down next to Pandora.
"I’m not asking you to be only mine..." he said, with a more trembling voice than I would like. "But this is what I most desire."
Pandora looked at her, confused and sweet.
Persephone opened the box. Inside, there was a ring of fine gold, with elven inscriptions that pulsed a soft light. On his finger, shone an equal.
"This ring..." she continued, "is not a covenant. It’s a promise. A bond of soul, not possession. No matter what happens, who enters or leaves your life... you will always have a way back to me. And I, to you."
Pandora took her hand to her mouth, moved. The eyes swelled with an ancient and deep tenderness.
"You give me that even knowing I can love others too?"
"I give. Because among all the constellations, you are still the star that guides me."
The fairy approached and, without further words, kissed Persephone with the softness of a healing spell. Then he took the ring and put it on his finger with reverence.
"Then may this promise be eternal," she whispered. "And that even if one day I get lost... I find myself in you."
The two embraced as if the whole world could collapse from outside and still be saved there, one in the arms of the other.
And outside, the party followed...
But for them, the real enchantment had already happened.
