Slumber Party For Two
Slumber Party For Two
“I doubt you are short of people who would even die to be friends with you," I stated with honesty, cautiously.
“I really don’t. I have acquaintances, but I don’t have anyone to share the honest contents of my heart. The good and bad thoughts, the ups and downs of every moment, I don’t even have anyone to drag into a bar to get drunk with me when I am feeling out of the weather.” Her voice sounded casual, but she could feel the helplessness in her words.
I could not believe everything she was saying, but the last part was quite convincing. I noticed it with her at the bar earlier.
“May I ask why so?” I was extra cautious to speak. I did not want to add to her frustrations.
“I was born with an extraordinarily high level of Intelligence Quotient. When I was younger, I did not know how to control my mouth from expressing my ideas and knowledge due to the fact that I am sure there is something to the matter, resulting in people around me feeling I am annoying. I was bullied from my childhood days because society could not accept my corrections whenever I saw something or someone doing or saying something wrong. Even the teachers disliked me. I did not want to take the homeschooling method to learn because I wanted to circulate with other kids and students, even though they did not like me. But as I grew up, my ability to learn became even more, faster than other students, so some started to befriend me. When I realized they were just copying my homework, I avoided them, resulting in more severe bullying episodes for me. The bullies spread rumors that I was one of them, so the other students also labeled me as a bully, while others labeled me as nerdy. So ever since then, I have never had the chance to find a friend. And it was easier to do things my way with nothing to think of other than myself. But I must be getting old. I feel lonely being alone. I can be with people I want. I can buy a company, but I know they are there because I pay for their presence. I want someone with equal friendship goals as me. I don’t know if I am right to ask you, but if you are willing to make this deal with me, I don’t care about the past. We are going to create a future anyway. What do you think?”
I was listening so carefully as she seemed to open herself up to me. She is indeed unique. No wonder she is so confident. She is a genius, after all. But hearing her sad childhood, I can also imagine how she must have suffered. If her words are true, that would explain almost everything about not having friends, and now she is asking me to be that person to her as she offers herself to be.
But what do I do now?
I have to think things over. Will she give me the time?
"Can I think about this and tell you my answer first thing in the morning?" I bravely asked. I was really hoping she would agree.
"Can you tell me how many percentage you are deciding things right now, how many percent for a yes and for a no?" She turned her hazel eyes fixed right to mine. She was like checking the honesty of whatever answer I would give her.
"Fifty-fifty, I guess," I am sure she could tell the obvious hesitations in my answer, along with my facial expressions.
"Not bad," she slightly nodded her head. "For that fifty percent, I can wait for your answer until tomorrow, but I want to spend the night getting to know more about each of us. How about a slumber party with me? I have longed to do such things as I see in movies. Friends who talk all night watching their favorite movie, but end up ignoring it because they spent all night talking about random things."
She beamed as she was stating all her thoughts. She was like a kid. Excitement was exceedingly showing in her beautiful mien.
I gazed at her. I just realized she is more beautiful in this mood of hers. Her fair-white skin is already captivating. She has bob-cut hair of raven black. Her face is too tiny, covered by her hair as her forehead has its hair cut short up to her eyebrows. Her nose is prominent, and it complements her cheekbones and deep-set eyes. Her eyelashes are quite long and thick, flapping as her enthusiasm was becoming more obvious. Her lips are thin and healthy pinkish, which turns red with her every playful bite. She is a beauty that I cannot seem to get tired of gazing at. But her next question woke me up from my wandering thoughts.
"Will you spend the night with me?" she asked with so many expectations.
"Wha... what!?" I stuttered. I was lost in my thoughts that I could not connect her question to what we were discussing earlier.
"Oh, wait, did my words sound ambiguous?" she chuckled. "I mean, will you have a slumber party with me?" she explained with an enchanting grin.
"As far as I know, a slumber party is for teenage girls," I retorted.
"I know, but I wanna try that for myself, but I can no longer go back to my teenage days, I am thirty-two for goodness sake," she glared at my reply, then she sighed. "Just please don't mind the gender and the age, just take it as a sleepover, we can do twenty questions," she eagerly answered.
I am fascinated by her current mood. She is acting so genuine, I cannot find any spot to point out that if she were being false or faking. I am almost convinced she is truly after a friendship with me. No malice. Definitely no sexual goal. She is like a child. Maybe her idea would be a good help for me to decide.
