Chapter 16 — Doubling Dabbling of Evil
It was some minutes after ten o’clock Friday night, and Ella already had mopped the floors to her house, three times already with soap and bleachy water. And not a speck of Corporal Banks blood could be seen anywhere in the bedroom where he had received his wound or, in the living room, where Ella and her father dragged his body so they could place it into the officer’s car.
Their intentions were to stuff the officer’s body inside the trunk of the car and then discard of it somewhere lonely, hopefully without any witnesses around.
Realizing much luck was on their side, so for, they both wanted to have this frightening mission over and done with. Especially, since a large brigade of police officers, blazing and blasting sirens had travel westward for some good reason or another. And knowing that fact, Christopher Bradshaw confidently believed that the road would be free and clear for him to make a quick drive and disposed of both the officer’s body along with his vehicle; somewhere dark – obscured from the many eyes of the public.
Ella, having the task of mopping the floors completed, would quickly change out of her spotted clothing and setting them to soak in bleachy water to get rid of any evidence of blood from them. And shortly afterwards, she was fully dressed in black and seated beside her father, on the passenger’s seat of the corporal’s four door, white escort.
The engine of the car was revving and soon, Christopher Bradshaw was turning the vehicle around, southbound, so he could align it up with the driveway, making it much easier for him to proceed onto the not so busy parochial road. And since his community and surrounding areas were only developing, and there were a number of vacant lots everywhere, with cluster of bushes like a lush green forest. Christopher thought, discarding of the officer’s boy would be quite easy and simple for him to maneuver or undertake.
His main concerns were being able to walk back onto the main streets, hitch a ride back to his house or just foot it, without much attention being drawn no him. Since his last couple of months were filled with pure bad luck, causing him to be either in a jail cell or the in the hospital. Allowing many of his acquaintances from the streets, not to behold eyes upon him for a while, and would now want to greet him with much excitement and loud announcements, if he should only pop-up on the streets again and in their circles of friends.
Ella was nervous and so was her father too, as he gentle pressed his foot on the gas pedal, and slowly dove the car towards the entrance way of his front yard.
Looking left and then looking right, there were not a single thing coming at either side. But just as soon as Christopher turned the steering wheel leading him eastbound, and started pressing harder on the gas, there came another swam of patrol cars, blasting their sirens in the air. As though, King Jesus had just arrived and they were escorting him to greet the masses.
“Almighty father, we are dead now!”
Ella exclaimed with both hands flying to her head and resting there.
“No, we are not quite dead as yet!”
Christopher responded, staring into one rearview mirror after the next.
“Should I burn gas on them, or should I pull over to the side of the street and let them past?”
Christopher turn to his daughter Ella, asking.
“Are you crazy, Dada?” Ella shouted asking; “You can go ahead and burn up the bloody gas if you want to! But, please, let me out of this damn car before you start with your speeding of this car. Because, if you start speeding right now, they will certainly believe you’re suspicious of some sort of wrong doing, not that we aint!”
“Probably, one of them in the motorcade might just recognize this car in front of them and believe it’s their boss-man, Corporal Banks, who is driving it! And then, might just flag us down to say heal! ”
Ella’s father suggested nervously.
The sirens were getting louder and louder, the bandwagon of police troopers were caving in behind them closer and closer by the minute. And frightened, Christopher knew, he had to do something quite drastic right now.
So quickly, he put on the ignition of the car, indicating to the other motorist using the streets and were behind him that he was about to make that upcoming left turn. And just as he was coming up to the next yard gate, on that stretch of road, Christopher suddenly swung the little white escort, straight into the people’s front yard and carelessly parked the car there.
While the inhabitants of the reasonable size house, anxious and filled with curiosity, continuously kept on removing curtains and peeping through the front windows, at the strange transportation. Which was idly, just sitting there in the middle of the front of their manicures lawn. Because, they were extremely apprehensive about confronting their trespassers parked on the front of their property since they weren’t quite sure, if it was a mentally unstable person there, or if, that person was arm with any form of weaponry.
Reluctant, to get from behind the safe walls of their dwelling place, the inhabitants of the beautiful house remained behind the firm structure of their building. Anxiously, they stayed there watching and waiting to see what was going to unfold on their well cared for piece of land. But whatever it was that was taking place there, was way past this quiet family’s comprehension.
However, soon afterwards, what seems like a string of twenty add cars past by the residence where Mr. Bradshaw and his daughter took up refuge from the fleeing brigade of law enforcement officers. As their lights flash all around the community and changing the shades of the leaves on the trees, as though, it was some form of magnificent festive season.
Christopher Bradshaw was clutching tightly to the steering wheel hoping and praying for this noisy procession to hurry-up and be over it with now. And just as the last police car pasted by the front of the luxurious house with its nicely trim edges and a gray bird bath podium in the middle of the lawn, cascading water from the top to the bottom of it, the front door to the small size mansion swung wide opened. Soon a man came through the doors, carrying in his hand what seems like a large cutting tool for lumbers, and then, and woman followed behind him, gripping at a large cricket bat in her hand.
Seeing the woman with the cricket bat in hand as if, ready to display a winning strike, Mr. Marshall amusingly questioned;
“I wonder, which fucking team is she trying out for’ Trini & Tobago or Wellington?”
The presumable couple were coming at the small white escort with full force, while cursing and yelling for the Bradshaw’s to get off their goddamn property immediately, or else, they were going to hack-up their bloody car!
Gladly though, the windows of the car were darkly tinted and rolled-up way to the indentation where the glass perfectly and securely fitted tightly into the groove. Therefore, the angry owners of the property, the Bradshaw’s were trespassing on, were pretty much unable to identify who exactly it was had been seated inside of that car.
But Mr. Bradshaw being in control of that steering wheel wasn’t going to sit around to give some excuses why he was parked on their property, or for the agitated couple to come busting out the car windows either. So, hurriedly, he began putting gear-stick in drive, pressing his foot on gas pedal, and claiming up onto the banking edges of the residences well put together garden and then back out onto the main streets. Where, he would either swim well or sink terribly, since there would be no life-jacket to safe him, if he should be caught.
Presuming that the procession of police brigade had gone straight east, Mr. Bradshaw and Ella went southwest, hoping to stay out of the sight of unforeseen danger. Now, they had a little less than a mile to travel to, they then would be turning right onto one of those dirt roads where the vegetation stretch out heavily along the path. That would be their final stop and also their dumping ground.
All the street lights were shining brightly, quite a few pedestrians were walking about on the streets while it appears as though, every owner of a vehicle was out taking that last Friday evening drink. Since seven or eight cars could be seen parked-up at each little rum bar on the main stretch of road heading south west. And everyone seems to be in a jolly mood as though, it was already Christmas.
Christopher Bradshaw had his foot pressing away on the gas, and less than three minutes later, he was making that right turn onto that dirt road. A dirt road which was covered with large hanging branches from the trees and the earth there was light-brown in color and the dirt there very loose.
The area was pitch black and Mr. Marshall dim the lights to the vehicle, not wanting to attack a single soul… god, animals or even any crawling creatures.
Ella was the first to exit the parked car, and ready to bolt away from that spot like a flash of lighting. Not wanting to associate with that location of the community, just in case, unseen eyes were lingering somewhere in the dark. Soon, her father was out of the car as well, and demanding her to assist him with lifting out the corporal’s body from out of the trunk. But Ella’s only intention was to get away from that bush area, and fast.
We don’t need to get him out of the car truck, let him rest there! What we need, is to get out of here right now!”
Ella whispered demandingly to her father, as her eyes move swiftly about in the darkness, for any shadow at all that would move in that vicinity.
Bringing himself to believe that his daughter was indeed correct, he gently began closing the door to the car before deciding to walk away from it all.
But Ella stopped him in his track.
“Did you clean the steering wheel and door handles yet?”
She ask whisperingly once again.
“No, I didn’t!”
Ella’s father whispered back at her.
Boiling up with frustration, Ella furiously uttered;
“Take off your damn shirt and carefully wipe off the damn steering wheel and the also the door handles… anything on the car that you have already touched; use your shirt and clean away your finger prints from it! Or else, you’re going to be in deep shit, once the cops find your finger prints on this car!”
Ella spoke in a softer manner to her father while still standing bear breasted in the darkness, wiping away every inch of the corporal’s car which she knew her fingers had touched.
Satisfied that her finger prints could no longer be traced on the officer’s car, Ella flashed out her T-shirt, threw it over her head, and check to make sure that her shoe lace was securely tied to her feet.
“We need to get the fuck out of here, Dada!”
Ella muddled from the opposite side of the car.
But her father gave back not a response.
Not caring to know why the hell he didn’t answered her, Ella turn her attention to the main street and began heading for it, galloping away from amongst the thick pathway of heavy greenery, like a champion horse on a race track.
Fist tightly clench and muscles firm like a sprinting Olympian, her strong legs began moving fast pasting one another alternatively. And she wouldn’t even slow down to look behind her, until, she had reached the first little business place on the side of the street; with its many patrons gallivanting about and expressing idle chatter on the pavement of the bar with their cups of liquor in hand.
Staring into the darkness from a distance, she saw not a glimpse of her father coming behind her. And she had no intention to wait and see if he was coming to catch up with her either. All she wanted to do now, was to get back to their house, take a good wash down, and then get into bed; so she could fall asleep and forget everything that had happened to her in the last couple of hours.
Ella, still at short proximity to the rum bar, felt quite nervous about walking past it, fearing anyone there, recognizing her face while she made her way home. Especially, since she was pretty well aware of the saying that says; “Tom might be drunk, but Tom is no fool.”
Therefore, the teenager, cross over to the opposite side of the street, pulled her black T-shirt up to the bridge of her nose; leaving only her wild eyes out, held her head straight and kept on walking as fast as she could. And so the young girl did, as she walked past the other nine or ten other drinking establishments on that stretch of main road.
Approximately, four more miles to go, Ella kept on walking swiftly, trotting at some point and then running the other rest of the way until, she finally reach her address, exhausted and then out of her sweaty clothing.
Scrubbing her body from head to toe, desiring to wash away every ounce of evidence of Corporal Banks from her being, Ella dry off her skin and clad herself for bed. But going straight to bed at once, wasn’t an option for her, presently, because she desperately wanted to have more of her father’s pain medication, since her entire body was aching once again. As she rampage through her father’s basket which he had received from her boss, Mr. Marshall, it was the very first time that the teenager had some serious concerns about her father wellbeing in quite a long while.
“Would he be making it home for the night or, was he maneuvered and captured by someone else who secretly was lingering in the pitch darkness of the bushes?”
She pondered for a while.
But finding the pain pills were more important than thinking about her father now. After searching for the pain pills for a while, she finally found them on her brother’s Philip vanity. And just like her father had done to her, Ella swallowed four of the pain medication and then jumped straight into bed.
Shuttled up in pain all over her body, sore, exhausted and also quite weary, Ella Bradshaw went off into a very deep sleep, deadening all her senses to everything that contained the side of the living.
Nothing at all could awaken her once sleep had taken her over. And when her father came pounding on all the doors of the house, way after mid-night, there were no response at all coming from her. Now he began wondering if she had actually made it home or some other danger had met her along the way there.
Eager to find out, if his daughter had made it back to house, even though their relationship was one of hate and turmoil, Christopher began removing all the window plains from one of the living room windows. Severely hoping, he would be able to climb-up on one of the veranda chairs, climb through the window from where he had removed the window plains and then enter the house.
But just like his daughter, he too now was suffering from severe pain since the effect of his medication had worn out of his system. Making him unable to be as agile as he used to be before his terribly beat-down and injuries form his own daughter, Ella.
However, he was determined to enter into that house before day break, before the snoopers and suspicious minds showed up at his house and began inquiring about Corporal Banks disappearance. Because one think he had learned from his daughter, never to leave any of your physical evidence behind.
One by one, Christopher began removing the window plains. Carefully and forcefully he pulled them from the window frame and gently rested them on the same surface of the chair where he stood until, his beliefs were, he could actually fit through that tiny space of the window and then entered the house.
Just after placing one foot over the window sill to enter the house, and was about to do the same with the other one, there came a vehicle driving into the yard. The bright headlights from the vehicle were shining directly at his face and completely blinding his sight.
“Who the fuck, is this now?”
Christopher Bradshaw exclaimed while still retrieving his foot from through the open framed of the window. Urgently, he placed both feet back onto the veranda chair. But during this time, he lacked concentration, focusing on who the stranger was parked in his yard, resulting in him, stepping on all eight pieces of the window plain and braking them.
The crackling sounds brought Christopher in a whole other mood of anger, and he knew, anyone who was behind those wheels wasn’t making it home alive that night.
“Look what this mother-fucker made me do at this fucking time of the night!”
Mr. Bradshaw said angrily to himself.
“Show your damn self!”
He then shouted at the persons behind the wheels.
The engine of the vehicle continued running, but the lights where now dim.
“Bradshaw, is that you?”
The person behind the wheels shouted.
“Yeah man, it’s me… it’s me!”
Mr. Bradshaw admitted.
“Who is it?”
Mr. Bradshaw then inquired.
“It’s me, Narval… Narval from work… I have something to give you from the other day. But just pasting by and seeing you stepping through the door, I decided it wouldn’t hurt if I stopped by now and hand it over to you.”
The visitor stated loudly.
Realizing that the stranger was one of his co-workers from his job, the flaring temperament of Mr. Bradshaw, all of a sudden, started to simmer down.
This was one of the guys from the tire company where he has been working for a couple of years, and considered hi to be a friend.
“Are you drunk?” Mr. Bradshaw asked; “Where is the damn door that you see me stepping through?”
“No, man, I’m not drunk, only tipsy!”
Narval said out laughing while reaching for his glove compartment.
He was not alone, his eldest son was seated beside him. And even though, somewhat tired, he could still hear and comprehend the conversation his father was having with Mr. Bradshaw.
“I was going through the bloody window, because my daughter lock the doors, and all I’m calling her, she will not wake up! And you coming here shining the damn lights, causing me to step right on the window plains and breaking them… all eight of them is now broken!”
Mr. Bradshaw explained under a more pleasant tone of voice. But his co-worker knew him well enough to know, he was rather pissed-off about it.
Reaching across the stomach of his son, Narval began handing Mr. Bradshaw the pile of papers one after the other while expressing to him;
“The boss-man said to give you this and this, almost a month’s pay and papers for you to sign and submit to the officer if you intend on keeping the job.”
And before he could say, thank you; Narval began blasting the horn of his vehicle as loudly as he possibly could, and flashing the lights of his truck; hoping that such actions would awaken his friend’s sleeping daughter. But such actions were useless.
“Just do me one favor before you go, my friend.”
Mr. Bradshaw said.
“I’m going to climb through the window, and when I go through it, please, just take this chair baps and cover over the window frame and then push the chair up against it for me. So the other owners of the house, don’t think they have free or easy access to the inside of it!”
Mr. Bradshaw suggested.
But, before Mr. Bradshaw needed to climb through that perimeter of that window frame, the pieces of glasses from the window plain needed to be removed. So, both men pulled up their sleeves and removed the chair pad from its position and emptied the broken pieces of glass resting on top of it into the garden below Ella’s bedroom window. Before, returning to the veranda with the chair to carry out that task his friend had told him to do.
The splashing and crackling sounds of the broken glasses, certainly had alerted Ella, out of her deep sleep. And now she was off the bed and feeling around under the bed for the precious orange handle hammer which was kept underneath her parent’s bed.
She was fully ready to strike a blow to whomever it was entering the house.
Gliding one foot, then the other, over the window sill, Christopher Bradshaw was now standing inside his house, and his friend Narval began resting the chair pad up on the frame of the window and then pushing the chair up against it.
Ella could see the figure of a man standing in the dark of her living room. And she completely had forgotten every activity she and her father had done earlier on. Not only that, she had totally forgotten about him, that he was rather still living inside that house.
Hammer in hand and firmly gripped, with her might, she knocked out the believe intruder before switching on the lights.
Sprawled out on the hard tile floors, with hands tightly hugging onto his head like a virgin giving birth to a twelve pound boy, as the pain in his head, overtook him to the core of his being. Christopher Bradshaw could do nothing else but screaming and hollering.
“Fuck it Ella, why are you trying to kill me?”
Mr. Bradshaw said with squinted eyes.
“You lock me out of my own fucking house and now, you cracking my head in three different pieces!”
Mr. Bradshaw managed to express while his eyes squeezed shut, his forehead wrinkled, and his face flinched with agonizing pain.
And with the slip of the tongue, Ella bellowed out for strangers to hear;
“Your fucking ass should be dead long, long time ago!”
“What are you doing climbing through the window, and how you just getting here this hour of the night?”
Mr. Bradshaw’s daughter continued to ask.
But, being aware of all that has been happening for the past four to five hours and his friend Narval, still in proximity to his hearing, Christopher Bradshaw kept silent for a while.
Trying to get himself up from off the floor, Christopher shouted to his friend; “Narval, you see the fuck that I have to go through with my own fucking pickny?”
Still standing out in the yard, and quite unsure of what strangeness was going on between daughter and father, Narval responded;
“She only thought, you were a burglar that’s the reason she came at you so hard!”
“Anyways, it’s getting late and I have to get going now!”
The visitor said.
“No man, you can’t leave now… come inside here and help me up off these floors, please?”
Christopher pleaded.
“Call your son, he will help you up off that floor!”
The visitor shouted while hasting back to his vehicle. But, little did know that Philip was behind bars.
And in no time, he was seated around the steering wheel of his cars, his foot pressing on the gas pedal and reversing his car out of the Bradshaw’s yard.
He already had heard the rumors of his daughter and his wife being dead on that property and most certainly, he didn’t want to be third person dying there. Especially, since he was unfamiliar with the underline situation or circumstances taking place that home.
Therefore, Narval thought it best to make a run for it.
Soon, it was slowly coming back the Ella about what had transpired earlier on, around five hours ago. So upon seeing her father lying on the floor and mourning about the pain in his head, she shouted at him, urging him to get his ass off the floor, get out of his clothing and go wash himself off under the pipe. But her father still lingering about on the floors, being hesitant. Ella quickly went to the kitchen, full a bucket of water, adding ice from the refrigerator to it and then she douse it on top of her father’s head, as she blurted out cursing;
“Your ass going prison, if you don’t get yourself off the damn floor, get out of those clothing and put those bloody stinking garments into bleach water!”
Quickly, he had gotten the message, crawled off the floor and began making his way outdoors to the standpipe, just as his daughter had commanded of him.
“And if you’re in pain, take your fucking pain pills before going to sleep!”
Ella said harshly as her father limped and hobbled towards the back door.
Christopher being in agonizing pain and flustering with frustration, lazily took off his dirty clothing carrying much criminal evidence, and in the bleach soapy water he stuffed them; with his pocket still containing his paycheck from work. And not only was his paycheck drenching in bleachy water but also, papers required for him filling them out and signing them so as to keep his job secured.
It wasn’t until he had swallowed his pain medication and was about to rest his head on his pillow that he remembered the important documents inside his pocket.
“How many more fucking trial and crosses should I bear?”
Mr. Bradshaw blurted as he ran towards the backdoor, so he could get back to the standpipe and rescue his paycheck and requisition forms for his job.
Now his mood was bitter sweet because he soon learnt after digging through the pockets of his pants, that Narval had his documents already tied up in separate plastic bag. Because the nature of his job often made his hands black and greasy and he didn’t want this to be transferred onto friend’s documents.
Recollecting his thoughts, Christopher went on to bed that night thinking, this was the best think that had ever happened to him for the entire two months after laying his hands on his daughter Lillian Bradshaw. And also, since Corporal Banks had rightfully intervene into his family life.
“But that mother fucker is dead now!”
He murmured to himself before closing his eyes and falling off into a terrible deep sleep.
But, what was it which had kept Mr. Bradshaw silent and had Ella, franticly running for her life, in the bushes where they had carefully dumped Corporal Banks body, still stuffed away in the trunk of his car?
Ella was out of bed early Saturday morning and, even though, still exhausted from her task the night before, she felt strong enough to carry out the daily chores around the house.
The very first thing she knew she needed to tackle was both her and her father’s clothing which she already presumed might be carrying some blood residues on them from the corporal’s body. But her stomach was cramping because she hadn’t eaten for several hours now, and knew if she didn’t take a bite, that would be it for her.
Boiling some freshly picked lime leaves and stirring the liquid with some sugar and powder milk, would do the trick.
Swallowing the flavorful tea and a piece of bread, Ella went straight to slaving over the clothing, which she and her father were wearing during carrying out their criminal act. Washing the clothing with soap water twice and rinsing them several times, before placing them on the clothing line to dry. And since it was now daylight, and visibility was much better, she made a thorough inspection of the bedroom where she slept and also the living room, for any speck of blood that would send her away for life. If found by the police if they should come investigating about the missing officer.
Because her intuition was somehow telling her, Mr. Marshall would sooner or later, report to someone that he had last seen the missing officer at the Bradshaw’s residence. And the police was be there probing around like a frantic gray hound.
Nonetheless, with the laundry vigorously washed and nicely drying on the line, Ella had her mind made up to take a very long trip. It was a trip she had been planning a couple days now, hoping to go and inquired, if she had another human being growing inside of her and getting rid of such a responsibility at once.
Climbing the mango tree, Ella took half of the cash she had hidden there, anticipating that such would do the trick – cover the cost of her potential abortion. Replacing the other half, back into its covert hiding place, Ella returned to the inside of the house where she began getting herself ready for her road trip.
Standing at her yard gate, she could see the large red truck coming from a distance and, immediately, she could tell who it was coming towards her.
But, she had no intention of lingering around and involving herself with any chatting with him, because, she was on a very important mission now.
Pressing on the breaks, Mr. Marshall stopped right at Ella’s feet. And before he could say, “Good morning Ella!” there came one of the cabs she was actually waiting on, for her ride to her destination.
Flagging down the cab, Ella vigorously shout; “One stop driver!”
The silvery vehicle had now stopped in front of Mr. Marshall truck, and the teenager began moving towards it as she hastily shouted at the Good Samaritan who had come to see about her and her father; “Dada inside sleeping!”
Not looking back to figure out whether or not he had heard her, Ella quickly seated herself into the car and uttered;
“You can go ahead now driver!”
It was just after ten o’clock in the morning and the sun was boiling hot as though, it was already midday. And forty-five minutes later, Ella, sweating, was standing in front of a desk inside of the scanty doctor’s office, waiting to be registered, so she could consult with the doctor there.
“Good morning! My name is, Ella Bradshaw, and I would like to speak with the doctor!”
Ella stated to the receptionist.
“You would like to speak with the doctor as a patient or privately?”
The receptionist ask with a look of skepticism on her face.
“I’m here for him to check out my body!”
Ella answered as she patted and dabbed perspiration from her face and neck.
“Fill this out and bring it back to me.”
The receptionist said while placing a clipboard with a sheet of paper attach to it into Ella’s hand.
Carefully examining the sheet of paper attach to the clipboard, Ella quickly decided on what she wanted to write on it.
“My name, address and age is all that they needed to know about me for now.”
Ella mumbled to herself while putting pen to paper and filling out the form.
Minutes later, she was back at the desk, handing in the clipboard to the receptionist. Who by now was totally surprise, she had finished with such a task so quickly!
Examining the clip board with a face of skepticism written all over it, the receptionist alarmingly spoke;
“But Ms. Bradshaw, you’re not done with filling out the form I have requested for you to complete and return to me!”
“Anything that I didn’t touch on that paper, I know nothing about!”
As she went back to her seat.
“Should I put ‘Not Applicable’ beside them then?”
The receptionist ask.
“Hey lady! You’re the receptionist… put anything you want beside them! You can’t expect for me to come inside here and then tell you how to do your job!”
Ella lashed out annoyingly.
But the truth is, Ella was quite nervous about her life, and not only about her own life but also, about aborting the life that was possibly growing inside of her.
Two other persons went inside the office to see the doctor and then it was Ella’s turn. Her emotions were now heightened from being anxious, happy, to having a sense of relief. And while sitting on the welcome chair, Ella cautiously related her story, telling the doctor all that she wanted him to know, and burying that which could have been danger to her deep down into her soul.
“There’s a man who I have been having sex. It happened two times, and he didn’t use any form of protection on me. So just in case, I’m pregnant by him, I want to get rid of it, Sir, please!”
Ella explained.
“I have brought money with me for you to remove it from my body!”
Ella said sadly, as she use the back of her hand for wiping away the tears dripping from her eyes.
Tapping his pen on the desk in front of him, the doctor asked;
“How long ago have you and this male carried out these sex acts?
“One night last week and then two nights ago!”
Ella said, weeping.
“Well, you might not be pregnant, young lady… it’s too early to tell!”
The doctor expressed calmly while handing Ella a box of napkins.
“But, since you feel that you’re pregnant, I’ll check your urine for protein. And if protein is found inside of your urine then we know for sure that a fetus in being developed… is growing inside of your womb. I’ll do that for you, okay my dear!”
The doctor continued expressing.
“Ok then, thank you!”
Ella commented sobbingly.
Returning from the bath room with her cup of urine, she handed it to the doctor who now placed the testing stick into the cup of urine and waited for its result. And as they sat in the office, the doctor’s eyes kept on travelling upon and down on Ella’s face, and then to the point of her upper body, as he wondered who had placed this young girl in this predicament.
Finally, the five-minutes required time for the urine stick to be extracted from the cup of urine and be examined had come. Lining the stick against the label on the bottle to get the correct reading, the doctor carefully looked at it not once but twice, and with raised brows, he then glanced over at Ella.
“Young lady, I think you really know your body… a seed is indeed growing inside of you. But, based upon what you’ve told me, it must be only a speck of embryo there – a new beginning of life.”
The doctor explained.
“So, what I’ll do for you is, give you three pills, take them right now, and three days, your menstrual cycle is supposed to start again. You understand me?”
The doctor ask reassuringly.
Still sobbing in tears, Ella gladly nodded her head, indicating to the physician that she understood him, clearly.
Swiftly, the doctor was on his feet and then striding towards his pharmaceutical cabinet where he took from it a big brown bottle. From the bottle, he removed four large white pills, place them into a small paper cup before handing them to Ella with another cup of water.
“This will do the trick, young lady!”
The doctor said as he handed Ella what would prevent her from having the embryo growing inside of her.
“And after your menstrual condition is over and done with, please get on some birth control pills so this won’t happen to you again! Because whenever sex sweet a man, he won’t be thinking about you carrying a baby in your belly for the next nine months and on your lap for the next five or seven years! So, it’s going to be up to you to protect yourself, finish your schooling and then do something quite worthwhile with your life!”
The doctor lectured.
Once again, Ella nodded her head at the medical professional who had just saved her from this unwanted burden in her life.
Almost done with the gurgitation of her sad and painful emotions, the teenager sincerely thanked the doctor for the medication and also for his kind words of wisdom before asking him, how much did she owed him.
For a moment, the office was silent.
It had been a very slow day at the doctor’s office that Saturday. And since the young girl had expressed to him already about bringing enough money for taking care of her unwanted pregnancy. The doctor requested that she gave him half of the amount of whatever she had brought there to take care of her presumable abortion.
But, was this medical doctor, trying to swindle her out of the cash she was in possession of?
Without question, Ella was ready to folk out whatever he wanted from her for his medical and professional treatment. Observing the young girl uprooting the very large coil of cash from her handbag, the doctor strangely ask;
“It seems as though, it was a very rich man who had done this thing to you?”
Ella pretended as if, she didn’t heard a word he said and kept her focus on counting out the money he had requested for his service.
Thirty thousand dollars presented in his hand, the young girl, shyly thank the doctor once again and began making her way through the door. Surprisingly, before she could exit through the door of the doctor’s office, he lovingly reminded her to start taking some form of contraceptives soon after she had stopped seeing her monthly cycle once again. He then went on to encouraging her, on spending the rest of money in her possession wisely. And his caring, kind and sweet mannerisms caused Ella to hold a soft spot in her heart for him.
“I will doctor, I will!”
Ella respond, half smiling and with the other half, a senses of shame eating at her.
Walking through the corridors towards the receptionist desk, Ella felt somewhat relief that this dilemma in her life was now over. And as she turned her head to say goodbye to the woman sitting behind the office desk, the woman behind the desk loudly spoke;
“Ms. Bradshaw, you need to pay your doctor’s fee here!”
“I have already paid the doctor inside his office before I left!”
Ella replied wide eyed.
The receptionist staring at Ella with much skepticism, Ella shouted at her in a medium tone;
“Why don’t you go… go knock on his office door and ask him, if you think, I’m the one damn lying, here?”
“I don’t care about what you have paid Doctor Smith inside of his office, but you need to pay me three thousand dollars here at this desk! If not, I’m calling the police immediately!”
The receptionist shouted at Ella.
Straight away, Ella retraced her steps and went pounding on the officer door of the doctor, and as hard as she pounded on the door and called out his name numerous times, the supposedly sweetness of man… the charming doctor, stayed lock inside his office, as if, he was completely dead to this world.
Facing the receptionist gazing at her with eyes that read trouble with phone in hand, Ella had no other choice but to face the music being played for her; see a police squad hauling and pulling her or simply just pay-up!
So, filled with anger and some feelings of betrayal, she decided on digging into her handbag one more time, uprooting another three thousand dollars and then handing it to the receptionist now seated behind the desk.
“Please, wait for your receipt before stepping out of here!”
The reception stated firmly.
The word receipt, suddenly had brought on a light-bulb moment in Ella’s mind. And now, she intuitively came to realize that she was unable to prove her claims on giving the doctor thirty thousand dollars of her money, for getting rid of a young belly which Corporal Banks had criminally implanted inside of her.
But as she walked through the door of the doctor’s medical practice, worryingly, she began wondering, if the pills he had given to her for consumption would actually do the tasks of freeing her from this planted embryo and bringing back her monthly flow. But only three days from then would she be able to obtain such an answer.
