Chapter 66
Clare threw the bolt across the front door and hurried down the hallway that led directly to her kitchen. Her breathing was at an alarming high. She should have reacted to Nathalie’s message and got the hell out of there.
Why was she being so stubborn, what did she have to gain? They already had what they needed from him. The only person she felt sorry for right now was Jonathan’s poor sidekick Billie. Perhaps we can make it up to him in some way.
Clare had to be ready, there was no doubt anymore, that he suspected her. She had to hang in; she wanted him to come after her. It was not enough for her that they had put Nathalie in his path of passion, enough to result in him feeling disgusted with himself and repulsed. To have been touched and caressed by another man.
Clare knew he was going to come for them both. Are we ready? Can we ever be ready enough for what is about to come? She brought her breathing down to a steady rate, and as if on autopilot, made her way back upstairs to the bedroom.
She could not resist, she had to look. Standing as far back from the window as she could, with her lens to her eye she could see him standing by his chair, his eyes looking straight into her window, his hands on his hips, he had something in his hand.
“I know you’re watching me, you stupid bitch!” He moved his hand back and forth, feeling the harshness of the rope in his palm. “You have no idea what’s coming next!”
