Chapter 20

Chapter 20
Chris saw Jonathan’s number ringing. He debated whether he could be bothered to pick up or not, the thought of taking more of Jonathan’s money filled him with great pleasure. “Yes.” He answered.

“I need you do something for me.” Jonathan said as he sat in his office. Chris turned the volume down on the television. “Go on.” He responded. Jonathan hated the slime ball, but he was the only man he knew who could get the job done. How he had so many contacts he could not quite work out, that was not any of his business and he didn’t want it to be. Chris did what was asked and it served Jonathan well.

He gave him the details of the bike that morning and a description as best he could. “Two thousand.” Said Chris matter of factly. Jonathan wanted to get down the phone and punch him. “That’s a bit extortionate don’t you think?”

“Listen take it or leave it mate. Up to you!” Chris responded, and he meant it. He wasn’t hard up on cash anymore, he could choose what jobs he took, but there was something deeply appealing and satisfying in ripping Jonathan off. Lame, pathetic Jonathan he thought to himself. The man with no balls, a woman hater and a pathetic excuse for a man.

The silence went on for a few seconds. “I’m a busy man Jonathan. You want this job doing or not. I’ve haven’t got all day.” His tone was flat almost bored. Jonathan deliberated for a couple of seconds. “Fine. It will be in the same place in a couple of hours. Get on to it now and come back to me.” He told Chris, as he tried to contain his irritation.

“I’ll get on to it when I’ve picked the cash up.” He cut the call off and flicked the volume back up on the television.  Jonathan glared at the mobile in his hand. He needed to find another man to do his dirty work.

“I need to go out for an hour.” He told Billie as he came out of his office and saw him in the reception area. Billie raised his eyebrows. “Paying the henchman, are we?” He asked with a tone that Jonathan really didn’t like the sound of. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You know what it means Jonathan.” He paused as he tried to control his disgust; Jonathan was leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. He had enough of his constant paranoia over Clare and his stalking ways. “Why can’t you just leave it, leave her. You know it could not possibly be Clare. You spend so much time and money on stalking and obsessing over one woman. Don’t you think you should move on by now?” Billie’s face had flushed red and Jonathan looked at him with cold calculating eyes.

Billie turned away, there was no point having this conversation with Jonathan he was simply wasting his time. Jonathan would have it coming to him, he knew that much.
