Chapter 29
The Devil Reversed: [You are the lobster, and your current life is the swamp. You need to climb ashore and pass through the right tower to reach the Moon Goddess.]
The Devil Reversed: [These two identical towers represent two people in your life. Only one is the right choice, who will lead you to a better life.]
The Devil Reversed: [But on your path, there are not only vicious and evil wolves but also loyal dogs. They can't see you now because you haven't climbed ashore. But your success also comes from them—money, house, future. You just need to figure out which one is the right choice for you.]
In another chat, Lyra asked what the "Little Bear Card" meant.
"The Devil Reversed" patiently explained what the card meant in different areas. After finishing, he added: [I suggest you seriously learn about the story behind Zeus and the Little Bear constellation.]
After reading these chat logs, Robert felt there was some hidden guidance.
Years of investigative experience made Robert feel that these conversations must contain some important information. And this info was related to Kurt and Lyra's deaths.
Robert couldn't stop thinking about Lyra's notebook and those letters. He grabbed the notebook from the evidence pile and started flipping through it. It was mostly filled with mundane stuff from after she got locked up.
As he read through her diary, Robert began to match up parts of her online chats with someone called "The Devil Reversed."
In the third month of her imprisonment, she got a letter from this "Devil Reversed" character.
Over the next three and a half years, she received 19 letters from him, but only two were still around.
The letter Lyra received six months into her imprisonment really caught Robert's attention.
It read: [On this day, as you turn 19, I wish you a happy birthday. Unfortunately, if you had been only 17 at that time, you would be free today, just like them.]
"Them" had to be Tony and Kurt, whose ages were reduced.
The letter also said: [You were just an impressionable, naive girl, yet you had to stand in the dock, bearing the collective guilt of four people alone.]
This line made Robert think "The Devil Reversed" might have been at the trial, but he wasn't sure. Trials involving minors aren't open to the public.
'How does "The Devil Reversed" know that Lyra is one of the main culprits in the abuse and murder case from 16 years ago, and how does he know she was the only one who faced trial?' Robert wondered.
Stumped, he decided to get a handwriting expert to analyze the letters.
The expert carefully concluded, "Based on the handwriting, the writer is most likely a man. His writing is forceful, vertical, and left-leaning, indicating a quiet personality and a good listener."
He added, "His writing is relatively neat and clear, showing he's meticulous, careful, and patient. The handwriting isn't aesthetically pleasing, suggesting he looks rather ordinary."
In summary, the writer was probably a quiet, patient, ordinary middle-aged man.
Then who exactly was "The Devil Reversed"?
