Back at the police station, Robert slapped the photos of Tony, Lyra, and Kurt back up on the whiteboard. He turned to Ethan and said, "Think this could be a possibility?"
Pointing at the photos, Robert went on, "Kurt finds out his wife's cheating and the kid isn't his. He also learns Lyra's messing around with Tony. So, he cooks up a plan to take out all three of them."
Ethan raised an eyebrow, "What kind of plan?"
Robert explained, "Like, he could tell Lyra that if his wife dies, he'd marry her. Then, he gives Tony Lyra's address. When Tony shows up, Lyra, scared Kurt will find out about her affair, kills Tony to keep it quiet."
Ethan shivered at the thought.
Robert continued, "Then, following Kurt's instructions, Lyra pushes Kurt's wife into the water and takes off her jacket at the scene. When she raises her arms to put on another coat, the real killer stabs her under the armpit, hitting her heart and killing her instantly."
Ethan nodded, "If this plan went down, the three who betrayed him would be dead in no time. Then, the real killer could frame Sophia, making her the fall guy. It's a pretty clever setup."
"Whether this theory holds up depends on the results of Kurt and his kid's paternity test tomorrow," Robert said, frowning. "Even though it sounds solid, I still have my doubts about Sophia."
Even though she had a recording proving she was led to the crime scene, she seemed too calm.
When the police questioned Sophia as a suspect, she was super chill, like she knew this was coming. She seemed to understand the killer's motive.
But she didn't resist, even cooperated with the killer. Even if the killer wanted to frame her, she didn't clear her name. Instead, she let him plant clues, giving him more time to commit the crime.
At 10:30 AM, Robert got the paternity test report from the hospital. It showed the two kids were indeed Kurt's.
After reading the report, Robert called Ethan, "We can't rule out the possibility that Kurt's wife had an affair recently. Let's split up and ask around. You start with Kurt's friends, partners, and employees, and I'll talk to Kurt's wife's friends and family."
When Robert got back to the station, he saw Ethan storming towards him, cursing, "Damn, Kurt is a bastard, a demon!"
