Chapter 34 ~A Sacred Decision
Chapter 34 ~A Sacred Decision
The Sekhawat mansion was bustling with life. The grand chandelier cast a golden glow over the living room, where family members gathered, their expressions a mixture of joy, excitement, and anticipation. The room carried the scent of freshly brewed tea and the lingering fragrance of marigolds, remnants from an earlier prayer ceremony.
Mia sat beside Vaani, their fingers intertwined, as they listened to the elders discuss an important decision. The room was filled with the warmth of family bonds, and yet, she could feel the slight nervousness in the air. Rudraksh stood near the window, his arms crossed, observing everything with his usual calm yet analytical demeanor.
It had been over a year since Mia took over as CEO of Ahuja Enterprises, and Rudraksh had seamlessly integrated himself into her professional and personal life. Their relationship had matured, growing stronger with each passing day. Yet, today felt different. Today, the air was charged with something heavier, something monumental.
Chirag cleared his throat, gathering everyone's attention. His authoritative yet affectionate voice broke the silence. "I think it's time we discuss something that has been on everyone's mind for a while now."
Mia glanced at him, slightly puzzled. "What is it, Bhai?"
Dadi, sitting at the head of the room, smiled knowingly. "Beta, we believe it's time for you and Rudraksh to take the next step."
Mia's breath hitched as realization dawned on her. She turned towards Rudraksh, who was now looking directly at her, his gaze unwavering. A slight smirk played on his lips, but his eyes held an unspoken question.
Marriage.
Vaani clapped excitedly. "Yes! I mean, come on, we all saw this coming. You two are practically inseparable."
Rudraksh finally spoke, his deep voice steady. "Dadi, are you saying...?"
Dadi chuckled. "Yes, beta. We want to see you both married."
The room erupted into murmurs, some congratulating, others teasing. Mia's mind was racing. It wasn't as if she hadn't thought about it before. Being with Rudraksh felt natural, as if they had been destined to walk this path together. But marriage? It was a big step, one that required commitment on an entirely different level.
Chirag sensed her hesitation and spoke gently. "Mia, no one is forcing you. But we know how much you both mean to each other. You have built a life together in every sense except this. So, we just wanted to put this forward officially."
Tusha added, "Beta, think about it. It's not just about rituals, it's about embracing the journey of life together."
Rudraksh watched Mia carefully. He had never been one to rush her, always giving her the space to make her own decisions. And he wasn't about to change that now. He reached for her hand, squeezing it lightly. "Mia, this is your choice. Whatever you decide, I'll be with you."
Mia looked around. Her family, her loved ones, were all here, supporting her. And then there was Rudraksh, who had stood beside her through every storm, every triumph. Her heart swelled with emotion.
A soft smile graced her lips as she finally spoke. "I—Yes. I would love to marry Rudraksh."
The room burst into cheers. Dadi wiped a tear from her eyes, blessing the couple. Vaani practically jumped in excitement, hugging Mia tightly. Chirag and Tusha smiled warmly, proud of the woman she had become.
Rudraksh, still holding her hand, leaned in slightly. "Are you sure?"
Mia met his gaze, her eyes shining. "More than ever."
The rest of the evening was filled with celebration. Plans were quickly set into motion. The engagement ceremony was to be held within the next month, and preparations had already begun. Discussions about the wedding followed, with the family buzzing about dates, venues, and arrangements.
As the night deepened, Mia and Rudraksh found themselves alone on the terrace. The city lights twinkled in the distance, a serene contrast to the day's whirlwind of events.
Rudraksh pulled her close, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "So, fiancée, how does it feel?"
Mia chuckled. "Surreal. Exciting. Maybe a little overwhelming."
He nodded. "We'll take it one step at a time, just like always."
She rested her head against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. "With you, every step feels right."
As they stood there under the vast night sky, wrapped in each other's warmth, they both knew—this was the beginning of a new chapter, one they would write together, hand in hand.
Mia sat in her room, staring at the ceiling as the echoes of her family's words still rang in her ears. They wanted her to marry Rudraksh. The idea itself wasn't shocking—she had been with him long enough to know that if anyone deserved her trust, love, and companionship, it was him. But marriage? That was a step she hadn't let herself think about too deeply. Not yet.
Vivaan and Ahana had been the first ones to support the idea. "Mia, you already live as if you're married to him. You care for him, you argue with him, you laugh with him. It's only natural."
"It's not that simple, Vivaan," she had replied.
Her brother Chirag, ever the overprotective one, had remained quiet for the longest time before finally saying, "If you truly believe you're not ready, we won't force you. But, Mia, he is a good man. You know that, right?"
Of course, she knew that. She had known it for years now.
The knock on her door was soft, hesitant. She didn't need to ask who it was. "Come in, Rudraksh."
He entered, hands in his pockets, eyes searching hers. "Hey."
"Hey."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Rudraksh took a step closer. "So? What are you thinking?"
She exhaled sharply. "I don't know, Rudraksh. It's not about you. It's about me. I need to be sure."
He nodded, as if he understood, and maybe he did. "Mia, I won't pressure you. This is your choice. But I do want you to know one thing."
She looked up at him, waiting.
"I love you. I've loved you for so long that I don't know what life without you would even feel like anymore. If you need time, take it. If you need space, I'll give it. But don't doubt what I feel for you."
Her chest tightened at his words. "Rudraksh, I..."
He smiled faintly. "You don't have to say anything now. Just know that whatever you decide, I'll respect it."
And with that, he left, leaving her drowning in her own thoughts.

The next morning, Mia found herself in the garden, sipping her coffee while watching the sky shift colors. Her mother joined her, silently sitting beside her before finally speaking. "You know, when I married your father, I was terrified."
Mia turned to her. "You were?"
Her mother laughed softly. "Of course. Love is one thing, but marriage... it's a whole different kind of trust. It's waking up every day knowing you are promising yourself to another person over and over again."
Mia was silent for a long moment before saying, "Mom, how did you know? That Dad was the one?"
Her mother smiled. "Because no matter how much I tried to convince myself otherwise, my heart always came back to him. When I imagined my future, he was in it."
Mia swallowed hard.
She didn't need more time. She didn't need more space.
She had already made her decision.

The entire family was gathered in the living room when Mia finally stepped inside. The room quieted as all eyes turned to her. Rudraksh was there too, standing near the window, looking at her as if she was his entire world.
She took a deep breath and spoke, loud and clear. "I'll do it. I'll marry him."
There was a moment of silence before the entire room erupted into cheers and laughter. Ahana hugged her first, then Vivaan. Her mother wiped away happy tears while her father nodded approvingly.
Chirag clapped Rudraksh on the back. "Welcome to the family, officially."
Rudraksh, who had been silent all this time, finally stepped forward, his eyes never leaving Mia's. "Are you sure?"
She smiled. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life."
And when Rudraksh pulled her into his arms, Mia knew—this was exactly where she was meant to be.
