Chapter Ninety-One

***Kautious***

I blinked at the bright light that surrounded me. When my senses come back to me, I realize I’m in a field of different wildflowers. I sit up, extremely confused because the last thing I remember was being on the battle field. I put my hand on my abdomen where the knife was to find no wound at all. I sit still, even more confused than before. There’s a few minutes of silence before I look around and see beautiful trees and flowers. There are what looks like butterflies fluttering around and small animals hopping around in the grass. I honestly have absolutely no idea where I am. When I turn and look back in front of me, I see a woman wearing a long, flowy ivory gown. Her hair is a light brown and goes down to her waist. She has big, white, foggy-looking eyes and a gentle smile. I blink up at her, and she smiles wider before she begins to speak, “Hello, Kautious.” I hesitantly speak, “Um… Hi. Who are you? And where am I?” She gestures to the ground beside me, “May I sit?” I shrug, “Sure. Go ahead.” She sits elegantly next to me, “I am the moon goddess.”

Instantly, I panic and scramble to bow, but she puts her hand on my arm to stop me, “There is no need for all of that child. We can just sit and talk.” I nod shyly and sit next to her, twiddling my thumbs. I look at her, “Why am I here? Did the knife kill me on the field? Is Scorpius okay?” She gently rubs my back, “Scorpius is okay. You’re currently in a coma-type state. The only reason you’re alive is because I am blocking the wolfbane from your bloodstream. I have greater plans for you before you leave this world, sweet child.” I can’t help the sad sob that suddenly leaves my lips, “I don’t want to die yet. We just found out Faye is pregnant! I want to see at least one of us have a pup. I don’t want to leave my mates yet.” She sighs softly, “You aren’t leaving them yet. I need you in a comatose state until Scorpius can get you to medical care. Like I said, I have greater plans for you, love. I have given you the ability to sense things that may impact life. I not only enhanced your empathy but also your sense of being able to see auras and sense changes in people. This is how you detected Faye’s pregnancy early or the poison in Brad that saved his life. And now you have something to sense within yourself. I have given you a second chance in multiple ways. I want you happy before you fulfill your true purpose. Can you do that for me, little one?” I look up at her with tears starting to stream down my face, “Yes, goddess. I will do anything you ask. As long as I get more time with my mates.” She pets my head softly, “You are one of my greatest creations, Kautious. I am extremely proud of how you turned out. You inspire people to want to be better, and that is an amazing thing in and of itself.” We sit in a comfortable silence for a while, watching the small animals run around in the field. After a while, she speaks softly, “If I could do one thing for you, Kautious, what would you ask of me?” I smile down at my lap before looking up at her, “I would like my mates happy. I want Faye to have a healthy pregnancy and bring a healthy pup into this world. I want Scorpius not to doubt himself so much, even if he does it in silence and doesn’t like to speak about it. I want Hadrian not to feel the weight of the world on his shoulders just because he leads the pack. I just… I want them all happy and healthy.”

She smiles up at the sky, “You are truly one of my most stunning creations. I never intended for you to be so selfless, yet here you are. You’ve unfortunately had to go through so much so far, and for that, I am sorry. That is why I am rewarding you now. You have done amazing on your journey so far. I want to reward you with something amazing before your time does come later down the road, as will everyone’s at some point. It won’t be easy to get this reward though, but I promise it will be so worth it. Now, my little wolf, go home. Go back to your mates. They need you.” I give her a watery smile, “Thank you, goddess. For everything. I will not question the plan you have for me in this life. I never have. I know you are making decisions for the greater good. I am just happy I could make you so proud of one of your creations.” I lay back in the grass as she ran her fingers through my hair, and I slowly fell asleep.

When I blink my eyes open again, I notice there is a bright light above my head. Once everything comes into focus, I realize I’m in a hospital room. There is a weight on my arm on my right, and I feel something squeezing my hand on my left. I can feel a gentle weight on my feet as well. The sound of soft sobs is the first thing that makes its way to my ears, and I turn my head to the right, seeing Faye sobbing onto my arm that she is clutching tightly. I can’t help but give a soft smile before speaking gently to her, “Shhh, Faye. It’s alright.” All 3 of them jump and turn to me, looks of shock on their faces. Faye is the first into action as she launches herself on top of me on the bed. I let out an ‘oof’ as Hadrian and Scorpius make their way to my sides, checking me over and giving me kisses on my face and hands while Faye snuggles into my chest. I ignore the pain in my abdomen from her weight and give a small chuckle, “I love you all, but can someone get the doctor? I want to be checked over so we can go home, please.” Hadrian nods, and with one more gentle kiss on my cheek, he is off to find the doctor. I turn to Scorpius as I gently rub Faye’s back, “Hey, love. Please know this isn’t your fault. I knew going onto that battlefield would have consequences if I got caught. But it’s okay. I’m okay.”

He lets out a sob, “Kautious, it’s been a week. You’ve been out for a week. I thought I let you die on that field. Hell, I thought I caused it because of the way I attacked your mother while she was too close to you.” I smile up at him, “I’m okay. The moon goddess had me in a coma to rid the wolfsbane from my system, is all.” Faye looks up from my chest at this, “What do you mean the moon goddess had you in a coma?” I lean down and kiss her head, “I’ll wait till Hadrian is back, then I’ll tell you all at once. I really don’t want to have to repeat myself.” It doesn’t take long before Hadrian is back with the doctor and Imani in tow. I smile at them, the doctor looking completely stunned that I was so lucid and able to function so soon after coming out of a coma. Imani makes her way over to us, giving my hand a squeeze, “I’m so glad you’re okay.” The doctor grabs the folder that’s on the counter across the room, “It looks like your system is completely clear of the wolfsbane, and your vitals are all good. You are good to head home as soon as I get the IV out of your arm.” My mates cheer, and I can’t help but smile wide as the doctor takes the IV out, “Let’s go home, guys! I want to tell you guys everything and you can tell me all about what I missed.”
