Chapter Eighty-Nine

*Day of the attack*

*** Kautious***

It’s been 3 days since we returned home and met in the office about our plans of attack. I can’t stay still, no matter where I am. This is going to be a huge turning point in my life. We are taking down the pack I grew up in, after all. I just hope that all the innocent ones get to make it out and start a new life. That way, they can better themselves and their future. I don’t want anyone to have to be miserable or suffer anymore. I catch myself pacing in front of the door, but I stop when I hear footsteps approaching me. I turn to find Scorpius behind me, decked out in combat gear. I can’t help but lick my lips as I see his long legs in black cargo pants, his toned chest decked out in a tight gray shirt, and black combat boots on his feet. He smiles at me as he pulls his hair into a tight bun on top of his head, “Ready for this?” I shrug, “I guess. I don’t think anyone could ever be truly ready to completely annihilate their old pack. Or maybe that’s just me and my soft heart. I just hope the good ones get out, is all. They deserve to have a life they want, not the life they were given of misery and pain.” He nods and pulls me into a hug, “It’s okay. Everything will be fine. We will win this and everyone will end up getting a better life from it.” I take a deep breath and nod, pulling away from the hug and grabbing his hand to give it a squeeze before turning to the door and opening it.

Once we are outside, we are met with our group of alpha and beta warriors that we are leading into battle. I straighten my posture before speaking up, “Today, we will make a change to this world. This will go down in history as a turning point in the bigger scheme of things. I am honored to have each of you willing to fight at my side and watch my back as we take down a truly evil pack I once called home. I am honored to know each one of you and I will fight my hardest today for us to ensure a win, as I am sure I can expect from all of you as well. Let’s get this done, take them down, and bring him the victory. Let’s do this to free the people who struggle to escape them and need a better life!” Everyone starts clapping, cheering, and hollering and I can’t help but smile at all of the unwavering support we get for things like this. These warriors are truly proud to be a part of this pack and a part of the change that is to come. Scorpius grabs my hand, and we start to head in the direction of my old pack as Rollie leads the other group that will stay around the main portion of the pack grounds. Our stealth team already left yesterday so they will be there by this evening to see if my parents stayed or left with the pack to come fight. I can feel my wolf itching to get out. This is the reason we all wore clothes we could actually shift in because we all know we will be shifting shortly to start the long run ahead. Hopefully, we meet the attacking pack along the way so that they don’t get close to our home. A few minutes later, I’m taking the lead and the first to shift. Scorpius follows soon after then all the warriors. There are happy, excited yips and growls all around, and then we’re off.

It only takes about 6 hours into the journey before we are all hiding in bushes and trees because we’ve caught the scent of the pack approaching us. It’s better to ambush them if we can than to charge directly at them. I am crouched low under a bush. Scorpius standing slightly over me, well, as much as the bush will allow. As they get closer, I can make out a few of the alphas that are here to fight. They are some of my father’s inner circle. Some of the strongest alphas in that pack. But I still think we are stronger and stand a better chance, especially since they are rushing and not using their noses like they should. That also could be because most of us rolled in mud to hide our scents along the way. As the first alpha passes closely to the bush I’m in, I shove my paw out and trip him. Scorpius jumped out of the bush and clamped his jaw around his throat, snapping his neck. The rest of our warriors slowly crept out of the bushes as the other pack’s warriors stopped in their tracks, snarling and snapping their jaws. One of their alphas is stupid enough to make the first move by lunging at me. I quickly run under them, nipping their belly. As they let out a yelp, a warrior from my pack rips their throat out.

I am dodging all over the clearing. It is painstakingly obvious that I am the fastest of everyone here, but that works to my advantage. I am biting legs, scratching bellies and sides, as well as biting throats. Weakening them any way I can for the alphas and betas of my team to kill them off. It’s only maybe 15 minutes in when I freeze in my tracks, coming face to face with my mother. I snarl at her, positioning myself to pounce if I need it. She laughs even though in wolf form that sounds like she’s hacking something up. She switches to her human form, staring me dead in the eye, “Well, well, look at you. Looks like you’ve finally put aside that crybaby behavior to actually do something with your life. Have you gotten used by your new pack yet? Gotten fucked stupid by random alphas in your heat? You must be so devastated that all packs are the same.” I feel a growl rip from my throat as I shift back to my human form as well, a carbon copy of the woman in front of me, “My mates would never let that happen. My pack respects me and cherishes me as they should. I give respect where it is earned, and my pack has earned it. But as for you, your pack comes to an end today. And I cannot wait to watch you fall.”

She lets out a loud cackle, “You really think you can do something here? Think you’re going to take down my pack? In your dreams, Kautious. You insolent brat, thinking we’d come straight for you as one single unit.” I can’t help but cut her off with a laugh, “You had 2 people who know your pack all too well planning against you. Of course, this isn’t all of my warriors. We aren’t stupid, Razell, but you are for underestimating me.” This only seems to piss her off more as I watch her pull a dagger from a holster on her leg. I pull 2 small daggers from hidden compartments in my boots. As I face her, she begins to circle. I’m not stupid enough to take my eyes off of her or turn my back to her, but I am also trying to watch my back as well since we are in the open in the middle of the battlefield. I know Scorpius isn’t far away from me. I can sense him. She lunges at me, and I dodge her, using one of my blades to slice her arm at that moment. She hisses and turns, swiping her knife at me, which I block with my wrist, using my other knife to stab it into her shoulder. We are now in a position where I see Scorpius behind her in human form, and I can’t help but smirk as he approaches us. She’s approaching me, laughing like she’s won, but little does she know she is about to die.

As soon as Scorpius gets close, his hands are around her throat, neck-snapping in his hands. I can’t help but gasp as she falls to the ground. Scorpius looks at me with a proud smile until he sees the color drain from my face as I hit my knees. I look down to realize she was closer than I thought, or she moved right when Scorpius got to her, and I now have her wolfsbane-soaked blade sticking out of my abdomen. I look at Scorpius one last time, listening to his gut-wrenching scream of my name before everything fades out of existence.
