CHAPTER 156. RAVIEL
CHAPTER 156. RAVIEL
“I’m going back to Miami today.”
“Boss? Good to hear you’re going back to Miami. Are you taking Claire and your son with you?”
“No, asshole,” I snapped at him angrily.
“Your bullshit plan didn’t work. She’s marrying that bastard today.”
“What? Why did you let him marry Claire?”
I snorted and hung up before throwing the phone on the bed.
There was no point in lingering with Seth. All his plans had failed. He was the one who told me to win Claire back. He advised me to act like a gentleman so she would relent and come back to me. It was all bullshit. Claire did love me, but it wasn’t enough to make her leave that bastard. She still chose him over me.
How painful that was.
I threw all my belongings into my suitcase and locked it. I decided I wasn't going back to this place. This apartment held too many memories of Claire and Aiden. I couldn't live in their shadow forever. I had to move on and get back on track. I would work day and night to forget Claire.
The bottles of booze I'd downed last night hadn't numbed my heart enough to make me forget Claire. I still woke up this morning with pain and a sense of defeat.
Those two weeks with Claire and Aiden had been amazing. I felt alive again for the first time after being trapped in anger and sadness for so long. They were the loves of my life. I didn't know what my future would hold without them. My life felt empty, just like when I first lost my mother.
When I first showed up at Claire's apartment two weeks ago, I was furious with her because she seemed fine without me. She had a job, a perfect son, and a boyfriend who loved her. It was a stark contrast to me, who was living a miserable life without anyone by my side. Seth wasn't even my most loyal man anymore, as he often left me to return to Atlanta. He was slowly finding his own path. I wouldn't stand in his way if he ever found the right woman for him and decided to get married.
But even though I couldn't win Claire, at least I'd said everything I'd been holding back. I'd told Claire that I'd never betrayed her. I'd told her that there would never be another woman in my life but her. I wasn't sure I could love another woman as deeply as I loved Claire. It seemed like my heart was completely taken over by her, and there was no chance for another woman.
I stood staring at my kitchen, as if Claire were there, cooking for me. I could tell she was hiding just as much passion as I was whenever she was around me. But her devotion to Anthonio was unwavering. She suppressed every last bit of desire to touch and kiss me.
If it were up to me, I would have cornered her against the wall and kissed her hard the first time she walked into my apartment. She was damn beautiful. Her curves made me drool. I had to restrain myself from touching her as long as she was around, simply because I was sticking to Seth's plan. He said Claire would be easier to conquer if I was gentle with her.
Bullshit!
I might as well go with my usual methods. Even if she still chose Anthonio, at least I could taste her. I wouldn't be tortured for the rest of my life by fantasizing about her sexy curves.
Not wanting to linger over my miserable love life, I dragged my suitcase out of my apartment and threw it in the trunk. I drove straight to the runway, where my private jet and pilot were waiting. I would fly straight to Miami. And I'd probably try to find an available hooker once I landed. I needed a release to soothe all the pain in my body, especially my heart.
"Welcome on board, Mr. Marshall."
"Yeah, whatever. Pour me a scotch."
"Coming right up."
I watched the flight attendant hurry to the galley. She was quite pretty, with a curvy ass and ample breasts. Maybe she could be an appetizer on the jet.
I wanted to try fucking a woman, even if it was just my body and no feelings involved.
I could imagine how boring my life would be in the future. I'd be back in the days before I met Claire, where sex was all about lust. I'd still be bored even if I slept with a dozen women in a week.
"Here's your scotch, sir. Anything else you’d like?"
"I'll let you know if I need anything."
She was attracted to me, and I was sure she wouldn't refuse me when I asked her to spread her legs for me. But the idea of fucking her felt wrong. My heart was against it, even though my lips were practically begging the flight attendant to strip in front of me.
"Boss, are we leaving now?"
"Yes, we are leaving now. I miss that bastard Seth," I said to my pilot through my headset.
Simon laughed softly, and the plane slowly taxied.
I sipped my scotch as I stared out the window at the boring runway.
I was leaving LA. Maybe for good. I wouldn't come back here until I was truly ready to go back. If Aiden missed me, I could ask Claire to send him to Miami. I would leave all my memories with Claire behind and try not to think about her anymore.
The jet suddenly slowed and stopped just before takeoff.
I put on my headset and connected it to the cockpit.
“What happened? Why did it stop?”
“We just got a call from Seth. He said we have to stop this jet.”
“What the fuck are you doing? Seth doesn’t pay you, I do. No one else can give you orders except me. So, fly this thing right now, or I’ll fire you and find someone else.”
My pilot and co-pilot were silent. They seemed deaf and hadn’t heard me.
“Are you guys deaf, huh? Fly this thing.”
“Boss, we just got—”
“What?” I cut Simon off quickly.
“I don’t care what Seth told you. I just want to get to Miami.”
That bastard Simon turned off his headset. I almost jumped out of my seat and went to the cockpit to beat him up before the flight attendant showed up.
“What? Do you want to get fired like Simon and Bruno?” I snapped at him.
“Umm... No. B-but, you probably want to meet someone.”
“Who?”
“I don’t know, but a car is coming.”
I squinted my eyes at the car approaching my jet.
I was clueless for a moment until I realized who was behind the wheel.
I half-ran down the stairs as soon as the jet door opened.
My heart sank to the floor to see Claire behind the wheel, smiling at me. She looked incredibly beautiful in her wedding dress and light makeup. Her hair was down, and the wind blew her strands wildly because she had left the window open.
The second the car stopped, I rushed over to her and yanked open the door. She jumped toward me and hugged me tightly.
“What happened? Why are you here? Did you run away, huh?”
Claire shook her head. She tightened her arms, and I could feel her tears trickling down my neck.
“He can’t marry me. Anthonio canceled our wedding.”
I pushed her away, anger welling up in my chest.
“What the fuck? I’m going to beat that bastard up right now. How dare he do that to you?
“No, Rave. Wait.”
Claire grabbed my hand and shook her head.
“He can’t marry me because he knows I love you. Anthonio let me go to be with you.”
I was like an idiot, gaping at her words. I couldn't believe that bastard would actually do that for us.
“Rave? Say something.”
Claire stroked my cheek gently.
“I told you last night that I love you. I won't force you to marry me. It's okay if you don't want to, I just want you to know that I will never marry Anthonio. We can remain friends and—”
I covered her lips with mine. I didn't need to hear any more of her rambling because one thing I knew, she was mine. I would never let her go again, forever.
“I will marry you. I will make you queen of the palace I built for you.”
I cupped her face and kissed her again, more gently this time. I didn't need to rush things because we would have our whole lives to savor every moment we created together.
“We’re going to be the family you’ve always wanted,” I whispered huskily against her lips.
“By the way, I’m already wearing a dress and I have a bouquet of flowers in my car. Do you dare marry me right now?”
I grinned at her challenge.
“Fuck, yes. We’re going to the registry office right now. I’ve waited twenty years for this, and I’m not going to delay any longer. I’m going to have you all to myself.”
“What about your plane? What about Seth? He must be waiting for you in Miami.”
“To hell with Seth. I’m more excited about the prospect of making you my wife right now, so we can have the first night I’ve been dreaming of for a year.”
“And Aiden?”
“We’ll have Emma babysit him. Don’t worry, I’ll triple her salary.”
Claire was about to say something, but I covered her mouth with my index finger.
“Problem solved. Nothing can stop me from fucking you on our first night.”
“Okay, Mr. Bossy. I’m ready to be your wife.”
“And I’ve been ready to be your husband for the past twenty years.”
