Grace also breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you! Dr. Lucas took care of the whole process today and even rescheduled for the day after tomorrow! You're amazing! Without you, my dad wouldn't have had the surgery so soon."
Harper couldn't believe it. "That's great."
She couldn't help but wonder. Did Joseph add an extra surgery? But he had refused before.
"Are you alone at the hospital now?" Harper asked as she packed her bag, her ear pressing her phone against her shoulder. "I'll come over and keep you company."
When Harper arrived at the hospital by taxi, Grace was there to greet her.
"Can Mr. Gregory handle it alone?"
"He's fine." Grace's expression relaxed a lot. "He's in good spirits. But honestly, I was taken aback this time."
She breathed a sigh of relief. "It's a good thing you helped me make an appointment with Joseph, or I don't know what I would have done."
"As long as your dad is okay." Harper didn't understand that Joseph had turned her down, so what did this mean now?
She told Grace the truth that Joseph hadn't agreed in the morning.
Grace got excited after hearing her out. " Actions speak louder than words. You see, you just mentioned it, and he subtly helped us. Doesn't that mean you still mean a lot to him?"
Harper's heart skipped a beat, and she remained silent.
"I think that after this incident, it shows that Joseph is reliable. After all, you two are not divorced yet, so why not give it another try?"
Harper didn't know how to feel about her words.
Gave it another try?
They had tried for so many years, what if she got stuck in it again and couldn't get out?
Two days later, Gregory's surgery was successful, and he was transferred to the ICU for observation.
Joseph didn't go home all this time.
Thinking of Joseph's cold attitude that day, Harper didn't want to call him again.
In the evening, Harper came to the hospital to bring dinner to Grace.
She deliberately bought a few more portions, thinking of giving them to Joseph and thanking him in person.
After having dinner with Grace in the ward, she was somehow a little nervous about seeing Joseph.
As she walked out of the ward with the food container, she almost bumped into someone.
"Harper?" Olivia looked at her in confusion. "Why are you at the hospital? Is something wrong?"
Harper realized and shook her head. "No, my friend's dad had surgery, so I came to keep her company."
"I see, then take care of yourself." After Olivia finished speaking, she casually glanced at the ward behind her.
Joseph's name was prominently displayed in the attending physician's column on the door label.
Olivia squinted her eyes but didn't say anything more.
What a coincidence. Olivia remembered that the last time they talked about the decoration style of Joseph's house in the cafe, Harper seemed to be very clear.
This time, Joseph performed surgery on Harper's friend's father. What exactly was the relationship between Joseph and Harper?
Harper breathed a sigh of relief and was about to say goodbye, but Olivia spoke again.
She discreetly glanced at the food container in Harper's hand and said in a light voice, "Do you also like this restaurant? What a coincidence! Joseph just told me he was hungry and asked me to get him something to eat, and I was thinking of getting it from this restaurant."
Harper, feeling a little uneasy, unconsciously tightened her grip on the bag of food. "You go ahead with your things."
She smiled self-deprecatingly.
It was presumptuous of her to think that Joseph might miss a meal. It seemed that she would have to throw away the meal she bought for Joseph.
After Olivia left, Harper turned back to the ward.
On the first night after the surgery, she wanted to stay to help Grace.
The hospital was unusually quiet, but Harper didn't feel sleepy at all. She walked along the corridor to the balcony, where the stars and the refreshing breeze made her feel relaxed.
Thinking of something, she took out her phone and texted Joseph to thank him.
After a long time of typing and deleting, she still hadn't sent it.
At the other end of the balcony, Joseph saw Harper enjoying the cool breeze from a distance.
He was sullen. This woman had no conscience. He had helped her a lot, but she hadn't said a word of thanks in two days.
Joseph slowly walked toward Harper and asked in a muffled voice, "Aren't you cold?"
Harper, who didn't notice anyone else on the balcony, was startled and almost dropped her phone.
She turned around in a panic and found Joseph standing next to her, very close.
Harper swallowed and lowered her head, feeling a little embarrassed. “It's okay. I'm not cold.”
"I helped you. Don't you have anything to say?" The man's voice sounded displeased, with a hint of coldness.
Harper thought, 'The text message hasn't been sent yet.'
She looked up at him and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
Joseph's face grew even more livid. "I haven't eaten anything until now."
It was unclear whether he was angry or not, but his stomach, which had been aching faintly, now hurt even more. Joseph instinctively reached out and pressed on it.
"You haven't had dinner?" Harper raised her eyebrows in surprise.
Didn't Olivia say she was going to buy it for him? How could this be?
Joseph gave her a cold look, his meaning was self-evident.
"Then wait for me!" Harper turned around and ran back to the ward.
It didn't take long for her to come out with a bag and hand it to Joseph.
"Here, eat."
Joseph looked down and looked at her suspiciously. "You're not giving me leftovers, are you?"
"How could I?" Harper shook her head. "It was originally bought for you, but it's cold now, so I heated it in the microwave."
Thank God she had not thrown away it.
"Is that your way of saying thank you?"
Joseph took out a fork and started eating in a leisurely manner, but his eyes kept glancing at Harper as if she were a scheming person.
Harper couldn't help but wonder, 'what would be considered a proper way to express gratitude.'
After thinking for a moment, she suddenly smiled ingratiatingly. "Dr. Lucas, you're amazing! I'm so grateful and I admire you so much! How can you be so great at such a young age!"
As she spoke, she started laughing, and Joseph couldn't help but smile.
The atmosphere seemed to suddenly become harmonious.
Harper suddenly became curious. Why did Joseph choose to study medicine at all costs?
Henry wanted him to go back and inherit The Lucas, and he was indeed talented in it.
Harper couldn't help but ask, "Why did you choose to become a doctor?"
Joseph's deep gaze lingered on her for a while, then he turned to look at the starry night sky, his voice melodious. "Someone once told me that with these hands of mine, I can save countless people from the brink of life and death."
He felt that it was her wish, so he wanted to fulfill it.
