Chapter 261 Finding Someone
Chapter 261 Finding Someone
Robert's eyes widened. He could hardly believe what he was hearing.
"Forty million dollars for you? Alice, in your dreams. You're a fucking animal. I should've strangled you when I had the chance."
Alice listened to the insults without any reaction.
She had never expected anything from this family anyway. Instead, she held up another finger. "Yeah, well it's too late for that now. Like I said, no money, no leaving. But since you just cursed at me, adding another million dollars shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Robert was shaking with rage. He gripped the armrest as if he might crush it at any moment.
Alice lifted her chin toward them. "Gabriel, do me a favor and keep an eye on these two. Stella will start by paying me five million dollars in compensation, and Mr. Hall will pay me forty-one million. If they can't do it, don't let them sleep. Give them water every other day, just don't let them die."
Gabriel was feeling nothing but satisfaction right now.
He turned to the bodyguards beside him and gave orders. "Did you all hear that? Get to it."
In an instant, seven or eight burly men surrounded the two of them.
Evelyn was deliberately left out. Apart from that first sentence Alice said to her, she never mentioned her again.
Instead, it was Evelyn who tried to speak to Alice several times.
Alice yawned. "Help me back to bed. If they try to contact anyone outside, you get ten thousand dollars every time you catch them."
Two servants immediately stepped forward to help Alice upstairs.
Evelyn finally couldn't help calling out to her. "Alice, can I talk to you?"
Alice was a bit impatient, but thinking about all that money coming in soon, she softened her attitude a little.
"Come on then."
Upstairs.
Evelyn seemed a bit nervous. She stood in Alice's room, opening her mouth several times only to close it again.
Alice felt a headache coming on. She raised her hand to rub her temples.
She had thought this woman might come begging for those two losers.
"Just say what you want to say. As long as you don't annoy me, I won't do anything to you. But if you're here to beg for those two, you might as well go rest now."
Evelyn's tone was pleading. "Alice, I just wanted to ask if you're hungry? Can I make you something to eat?"
Alice hadn't expected that after everything, she'd actually changed. "I'm not hungry. You should go rest too."
"Thank you, Alice. What happened before was my fault. When I was unhappy in my marriage, my parents kept telling me to just endure it, so back then I didn't reach out to help you..."
Over the past month, Evelyn had thought through many things and reflected on her past behavior.
Alice appeared indifferent on the surface, but of course she held a grudge.
Still, she knew Evelyn had no say in this household. Even if she'd wanted to save her, as long as that man disagreed, there was nothing she could have done.
"If that's all you wanted to say, you can go now."
Alice was really getting tired. Since getting sick, her schedule had been forcibly adjusted by the doctor.
It was already ten at night, which was when she was supposed to sleep.
Evelyn saw she really couldn't hold on much longer. "Then rest well. I'll make you a proper breakfast tomorrow morning."
Alice was about to refuse, but meeting those eyes full of hope, she said, "Whatever."
Evelyn immediately brightened up. She wanted to make up for this daughter in whatever way she could.
Alice watched her leave with a smile, but felt nothing inside.
Meanwhile downstairs, those two were already suffering.
Robert could only be watched over.
He picked up his phone to make a call, but the servant closest to him reached out and snatched it away.
Robert's face was as dark as a thundercloud.
But his current state didn't scare anyone. The other servants looked at these two people like they were walking ATMs.
Anyone who caught them trying anything would get a ten-thousand-dollar bonus. Nobody ever complained about having too much money.
This torment continued until the next day.
Whenever either of them tried to sleep, they'd immediately be doused with cold water without hesitation.
Stella was shaking all over. By the middle of the night, she'd actually wanted to hand over the five million dollars.
But Robert hadn't given in, so she could only grit her teeth and hold on.
Early the next morning, Alice sat down at the dining table with servants supporting her.
From another room, Sidney came out too.
He was in a good mood and greeted Alice. "Why are you up so early?"
"You're up pretty early yourself, Sidney. Come eat with me."
Sidney clicked his tongue. Up until now, she'd only called him cousin that one time.
Later when he wanted to hear her say it again, she refused. What a shame.
Stella looked at him pitifully, her voice soft and whiny. "Sidney, can you please ask Alice for me? I really can't take it anymore... We're all family..."
Sidney looked at her with disgust.
If Alice hadn't stopped him, saying she wanted to torture them slowly, he would've dealt with her directly already.
"Who's family with an animal like you?" His tone was icy and blunt. "You're as cruel as your birth mother."
"Sidney, she's your cousin, how can you talk like that!" Robert still couldn't break his old habits. He instinctively barked orders at Sidney.
Sidney completely ignored him. He lowered his head to cut Alice's steak for her, then pushed it in front of her.
"Eat more protein, it'll help your wounds heal faster."
"Okay. Sidney, come with me somewhere today."
Alice had already found out where Stella's mother lived.
That woman was the mastermind behind everything. How could she let her escape easily?
"Sure, I wouldn't feel comfortable with you going alone anyway." Sidney agreed before she even finished speaking.
Alice smiled. "Why don't you just move in here with me? We're family, after all."
Sidney thought about his own cold, empty villa, then looked at Alice.
"Since you bothered to invite me yourself, I'll say yes."
The two chatted back and forth as they finished breakfast.
Alice instructed Gabriel to keep watching those two, and only let them go once they were willing to hand over the money.
Sidney and Alice got in the car. As he watched them drive toward the suburbs, he finally asked, "Where are we going?"
"To find a woman who drives a truck." Alice's tone suddenly turned cold.
Sidney narrowed his eyes too. "She's really calculating, finding someone with terminal cancer who won't live much longer to be the scapegoat. But she doesn't know... sometimes living is more painful than dying."
The car finally stopped near some self-built houses in the suburbs.
Alice put away that coldness and put on a polite smile as she walked inside. At the village entrance, she met a very old man.
"Excuse me, sir, we're here looking for someone."
The man fanned himself, his attitude fairly neutral.
Alice immediately pulled out a stack of cash from her bag. "This is for showing us the way."
He felt how thick the stack of cash was, tucked it away with obvious satisfaction, and his attitude suddenly became much warmer.
"You found the right person. I've lived here for about thirty or forty years. I basically know every household."
"We're looking for a woman in her forties or fifties who lives alone. Her previous job should have been as a nurse."
Then Alice pulled out a photo. "Take a look. Do you recognize this woman?"
