Chapter 12
My brother pulled an all–nighter to interrogate Luna.
“Who are you really? Why did you kill Ivy?”
Luna met his questions with a cold smile and silence.
He slammed his palm on the table. “You think keeping quiet means I can’t find out?”
An officer hurried in with a file.
“Your legal name is June Wells. Your father is Victor Wells?”
Shock flashed across my brother’s face. “You’re the daughter of the murderer my father shot?”
Luna’s smile curled. “That’s right. And thanks for the years of hospitality. You even tossed your
own sister aside for me. If my dad can see this, I’m sure he’s pleased.”
“You targeted me on purpose?” he asked, stunned.
“Of course,” she laughed, unhinged. “You were so easy. One little finger and you came running.”
“So I invited the wolf in and got Ivy killed,” my brother said, lunging–only to be hauled back by
officers.
Luna watched him and drove the knife home with words. “Not just that. Remember all those years you went after Ivy because of me? Felt pretty great. Worth every minute my brother and I spent lying low. We finally avenged our father.”
My brother roared as they dragged him from the room. “I’ll kill you. Every last one of you is a monster.”
“Ha! Ha ha ha!” Luna’s cackling filled the interrogation room.
With the evidence ironclad, the police referred the case for prosecution.
Two months later, the court found Luna Reed guilty of first–degree murder and sentenced her to
death.
With that, the case that had shocked the city–the 7/18 homicide–was officially closed.
When the story broke, the comment threads exploded.
