Chapter 10
My brother had barely finished speaking when his phone rang.
“Ethan, I heard the victim was Ivy. Are you okay?” Luna’s voice was thick with worry and fear.
He glanced at Jack. “I’m fine.”
She hesitated before asking, “The killer’s still out there. I’m scared. Could you come home tonight?”
At Jack’s nod, my brother agreed. “Okay. I’m coming now.”
Before he left, Jack warned, “If anything happens, call the unit immediately.”
My brother nodded.
When he got home, the place was pitch–black.
“Luna? Luna?” he called, but no one answered.
His guard went up.
His hand slid to the service weapon at his waist.
A shadow loomed up behind him.
My heart lurched into
my
throat.
It was him–Owen Wells.
I watched, helpless, as he crept up on my brother.
If I could come back to life, I’d throw myself between them.
The moment he swung the club at my brother’s head, my brother whipped around.
“Die,” Owen snarled.
My brother’s pupils shrank. He didn’t have time to counter. The blow crashed down. He dropped,
unconscious.
“Brother! Brother!” I screamed, but I couldn’t do anything, forced to watch as Owen tied him up and hauled him away.

I could only trail them to a condemned building slated for demolition.
Luna was already there, waiting.
She flung cold water in his face.
He came to with a groan.
His eyes went wide. “Luna Reed–did you really kill Ivy?”
She let out a contemptuous laugh. “You’re not entirely stupid. But knowing now won’t help you. I’m about to send you to join your sister.”
“Why, Luna? I treated you well. For you, I was ready to cut my sister off.” His eyes went blood–red, murder in his voice. “Why did you kill her? I’ll put a bullet in you myself.”
Owen smashed a fist across his face. “You? You’re an idiot. My sister’s been playing you this whole time and you don’t even know how you’ll die.”
“Let me tell him, brother.” Owen stepped aside.
Smiling, Luna moved closer. “You still don’t know who we are, do you?”
My brother frowned in confusion. “What are you about? Did we know each other before?”
She clicked her tongue, annoyed. “Looks like your brain’s even slower than your sister’s.”
“Fine. Since you’ve been decent to me for years, I’ll make it quick. I won’t let you die like she did.”
