Chapter 25
Three hours later and I was ready to go to sleep. The party was still in full swing, though, and it didn’t seem like it was going to end anytime soon.
Some slut had gotten Grant a birthday crown, and he was wearing it, grinding behind some other girl. She had easy written all over her, and you could tell that she was doing everything to get my boyfriend into bed with her.
The song ended and Grant stopped dancing with her, starting to walk away. The slut pulled him back, though, and whispered something that was most definitely dirty into his ear. Grant shook his head and walked away again, this time with more success.
I put a handful of cake in my mouth, chewing it angrily. Now I fully understood the phrase ‘it’s a thin line between love and hate’. Grant was practically having sex with some random girl on the dance floor.
The DJ played a slow song, and everyone found a partner. I even spotted Ryan dancing with his beloved Jason.
I stood off to the side awkwardly, watching as everyone enjoyed their romantic moments.
“Do you want to dance?” a voice asked from behind me.
I turned around and instantly wished that I hadn’t. “Leave me alone, Grant,” I warned through gritted teeth.
“Come on, babe. You’re not mad at me—are you?”
I looked at him pointedly. “Yes.”
“Rose—“
I sighed. “Just go away, please?”
“One dance,” Grant proposed. “One dance and I’ll leave you alone.”
“Fine,” I hissed.
If I stepped on his feet, then it was his own fault for forcing me to dance, I thought sadistically. It was probably best to warn him, in any case. “I’m really not a good dancer,” I informed him as he dragged me into the mass of couples.
“Don’t worry,” he grinned. “I am. Just follow my lead, okay?”
Grant began to twirl me around slowly to the music. And that was when I recognized the song: You Got Me by Michelle Branch. Sure, it was old, but the lyrics described our relationship perfectly.
Hey, you are on my side
And they, they just roll their eyes
“Thanks for throwing me this party,” Grant murmured into my hair.
“I didn’t,” I denied. “It was all Trent.”
You get me
You look inside my wild mind
Never knowing what you'll find
And still you want me all the time
Yeah, you do
Yeah, you get me
“Well, you helped,” he countered.
I chuckled. “I guess that’s true.”
“You look breath-taking tonight, Rose,” Grant whispered, pulling back so he could look into my eyes.
“You’re too late,” I said, making him chuckle. “Do you think that you’d be able to sleep in my room again tonight?”
“Yeah, if that’s what you want.”
I grinned. “I want.”
I, I am all you want
They, they just read me wrong
It was amazing how I could be really mad at him one minute, and then forget that I was even angry with him the next. I lay my head on his chest as he guided me through the music.
You get me
When nobody understands
You come and hold my hand, baby
You get me

“That was a long ass party,” I complained, scraping my hair up into a bun.
“At least it’s over now,” Grant chuckled, pulling the cover up and lying down on the bed next to me.
The party ended about an hour ago, and everyone went straight to sleep once the guests had cleared out.
“Did you enjoy yourself?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he nodded. “But there’s something that I’ve wanted to do all night.”
I looked up at him. “And what’s that?”
“This,” he said, leaning in and pecking me on the lips.
“Um, Grant?” I asked, suddenly nervous. “There’s something I want to tell you.”
“Tell me?”
“Well, I’d rather show you…” At this point, I climbed on top of him, sliding my arms around his neck and kissing him deeply.
Grant kissed me back immediately, and I unlocked my arms around his neck to run my fingers down his chest. He gasped at the contact, especially when I began to trace the waistline of his boxers with my hands.
His fingers stopped any further exploration. “What are you doing, Rose?”
“I want this,” I told him boldly, looking at him squarely in the eyes. “I want you.” I peeled off my t-shirt and threw it to the floor, returning my hands to his chest.
“I don’t think you’re thinking straight,” Grant chuckled lightly. “I think you may have drunk a little too much at the party.”
I sighed. “I am thinking clearly. I’ve never been straighter in my life, if that makes any sense.” My hands drifted to his boxers once again, making him realize that I was actually serious about this.
“Rose, are you sure?” Grant asked quietly. “There’s no going back.”
“I’m sure about you,” I replied.
Grant flipped us over so he could be on top and he leant down to kiss me softly, gently pulling at my remaining clothes.
“Are you sure about this?” he asked again.
I nodded again, feeling more nervous. This is really happening; I thought anxiously, there’s no going back now. It like there was an elephant dancing around in my stomach, not butterflies.
My thoughts were cut off as the last pieces of clothing were removed. It felt… dreamlike. To make sure it wasn’t actually a dream, I reached over and pinched myself.
“What are you doing?” Grant chuckled easily.
And just like that, my nerves diffused, leaving only anticipation. “I’m making sure I’m not dreaming.”
“And?” he pressed.
“I’m not,” I clarified, mirroring his grin.
Grant shook his head slightly. “You are so adorable.” He leant down and kissed my cheek, drawing it out.
“Thank you?” I raised an eyebrow.
“It was a compliment, I promise,” he assured me. “Are you ready, Rose?”
I nodded, my mood quickly sobered, “Yeah.”
“This is going to hurt,” Grant warned.
