Chapter 76 Confession No 57: Watermelon Sugar

Chapter 76 Confession No 57: Watermelon Sugar
She thought summer would be sweet.

She didn’t know it would taste like sin.

When Mia agrees to help her family’s new neighbor with his watermelon farm, she expects sunburns, sticky fingers, and long, quiet afternoons. She doesn’t expect him a man twice her age, with hands that make her shiver and eyes that taste every inch of her like ripe fruit.

One lazy afternoon turns into something forbidden under the heat the scent of watermelon heavy in the air, juice running down her chin, and his mouth where it doesn’t belong.

It’s wrong. It’s reckless. It’s the sweetest danger she’s ever tasted.

The First Bite

It was too hot to be outside, but Mr. Carter had called that morning, his voice low and lazy through the phone.

“Could use an extra pair of hands, Mia. The melons are ripening faster than I thought.”

I could’ve said no. I should’ve. But something in the way he spoke like he was already smiling at me had me pulling on my denim shorts and knotting a tank top at my waist before I even thought about it.

His farm sat at the edge of the road, the green vines sprawling like they owned the earth. I found him near the back fence, bent over a melon the size of a baby. Sweat slicked the back of his shirt, and I looked away too fast, my cheeks heating for reasons that had nothing to do with the sun.

“You’re late,” he said without turning, his voice carrying that same lazy amusement.

“You called me ten minutes ago,” I shot back, stepping closer. The sweet, fresh scent of watermelon was heavy in the air, and my fingers itched to grab the one he’d just cut.

He straightened, wiping his brow with the back of his hand, then held out a slice red and dripping, juice already trailing down his wrist.

“Here. First bite of the season. Best when it’s hot out.”

I took it from him, my fingers brushing his. A jolt ran up my arm like he’d pressed something hotter than the sun into my skin. I lifted the fruit to my mouth, biting into the cool, sweet flesh. Juice spilled over my lip, down my chin.

His gaze dropped to follow it.

“You missed a spot,” he murmured.

I swallowed, my throat tight. “Where?”

He stepped closer, and I swore the air got heavier. His thumb brushed just under my lip, slow, deliberate, his eyes never leaving mine. Then he brought his thumb to his mouth, tasting the drop like it was the most natural thing in the world.

The cicadas screamed in the trees. My heart was louder.

Watermelon Sugar

The night heat sat heavy in the kitchen, sticky with August air. I leaned against the counter, still tasting the sweetness from earlier, my pulse racing every time I glanced at him.

“You missed a spot,” he murmured, his voice low enough to feel like a secret.

My tongue darted out automatically, but before I could search for it, he was stepping closer, pressing his palm against the counter behind me. The watermelon sat between us on the chopping board its red flesh glistening, dripping lazy streams that ran across the wood.

He dipped his fingers into it, slow, like he was testing how far he could push. Juice ran over his knuckles, and without breaking eye contact, he raised them to my mouth.

“Open.”

I did, and the taste hit me sweet, sun warmed fruit laced with something darker, something from the way he was looking at me. His thumb lingered against my lip, tracing the slickness, then sliding in, just enough to blur the line between playful and filthy.

“You like this?” he asked, his tone already knowing the answer.

I swallowed. “You’re insane.”

“And you’re still standing here.” His mouth curled into something dangerous, something that felt like an invitation and a warning at the same time.

When his hand moved to the small of my back, pulling me closer, the sticky juice between us was nothing compared to the heat in his touch. The melon split further under his other hand, the sound almost obscene, and I couldn’t tell if I wanted another bite of fruit or him.

The Bite That Changed Everything

I didn’t mean to let the juice drip down my wrist like that.

Or maybe I did.

Either way, his gaze was locked on the slow trickle of watermelon sweetness sliding over my skin, and the air between us was no longer about summer heat it was something heavier. Thicker.

He reached for me before I could move. His fingers curled around my wrist, lifting it toward his mouth like I was something to be tasted, not just touched.

His tongue found the trail first warm, deliberate, dragging up from the base of my hand to the bend of my arm. My knees nearly buckled.

“You’re” My voice caught when his teeth grazed me. “supposed to be eating the fruit.”

He smirked without letting me go. “I am.”

The watermelon wedge I’d left on the counter was in his other hand now, but instead of biting it, he pressed it to my lips. The chilled flesh brushed against the heat of my mouth, and I opened without thinking.

Sweet. Wet. I couldn’t tell if it was the fruit or his gaze that made my pulse go wild.

I bit into it, juice spilling. This time, he caught it with his mouth, chasing it down my chin, his lips ghosting over my skin until they found mine.

The kiss was nothing like it should’ve been not restrained, not careful. It was slow and deep, the kind that swallowed every excuse we’d been hiding behind all summer. His hand slid to my lower back, pulling me against him, the counter biting into my hip.

I could still taste the watermelon between us, sticky and sweet, but underneath it was something sharper. Hunger. The kind we weren’t supposed to feed.

“Tell me to stop,” he murmured against my mouth.

I didn’t.

I don’t know what’s more intoxicating the way his breath fans against my ear or the sound of the juice dripping onto the tile like a slow metronome marking my surrender.

“You like this, don’t you?” he murmurs, his voice dark velvet wrapping around me.

I want to deny it, but the truth spills out like the watermelon’s sweetness running down my chin. “Yes.”

He hums, satisfied, his mouth finding mine again sticky, sweet, and impatient. My hands fist in his shirt, but he doesn’t let me pull him closer just yet. He’s drawing this out, savoring me like the fruit between us.

Then his grip tightens on my waist, dragging me back against him, and I feel exactly how much he’s been holding back. My knees nearly give way. His lips trail down my jaw, stopping at my neck, tasting my pulse, teeth grazing just enough to make me gasp.

The world narrows to the press of his hips, the slow grind that makes the air thick with heat. His fingers slip lower, teasing, tasting the edges of a boundary we’re both far past caring about. The watermelon slips from my hand and hits the floor with a soft thud but I barely hear it.

He’s everywhere at once mouth, hands, body devouring me in a rhythm that’s as dangerous as it is addictive. Every nerve is screaming for more. Every ounce of reason I had melts away with the sugar on my tongue.

“Say it,” he whispers against my skin. “Tell me you want this.”

I do. God, I do. And I know if I say it, there’s no going back.

But maybe I don’t want to.

The Sweetest Bite

The juice ran down my chin, sticky sweet, and he caught it with his thumb before it could fall. He didn’t lick it right away he held my gaze, the tension between us humming like the summer air outside.

“You’re making a mess,” he murmured, but it didn’t sound like a complaint.

I knew better than to answer. My mouth was full not just with watermelon, but with the heat of his attention. He set the bowl aside, leaning in close enough for me to feel the slow drag of his breath against my cheek.

“This is why I told you not to eat it like that,” he said, voice low. “Now I’m the one thinking things I shouldn’t.”

The space between us dissolved. His lips brushed my jaw, chasing a trail of juice down to my throat. Every nerve in my body woke up, trembling under the deliberate pace of his mouth.

The air smelled like melon and something darker want. My fingers curled into his shirt before I could stop them, pulling him closer, until his hands found my waist and I forgot how to breathe.

He didn’t rush. Every touch was a question, every kiss a dare. And when he finally pressed his mouth against mine, it tasted exactly like the fruit sweet, dripping, and far too addictive.

“You don’t get it,” he whispered against my lips. “Once I start, I’m not stopping.”

And the way my heart slammed in my chest told me I didn’t want him to.
