Chapter 61 Confession No. 43: The Garden Behind the Mask (Damon’s Confession)

Chapter 61 Confession No. 43: The Garden Behind the Mask (Damon’s Confession)
PART 1: The Masked Invitation

The letter came wrapped in velvet, the envelope as black as midnight and sealed with a silver crest: a serpent coiled around a thorned rose. Damon Voltaire stared at it for a long moment before breaking the seal. The invitation inside was simple:

You are summoned to La Maison d'Épine for an evening of confession. The Garden awaits you at midnight.

Damon’s fingers trembled slightly, though his face remained unreadable. Only a few knew of the secret pleasure society buried beneath the old city opera house fewer still were chosen for its inner garden, a sanctum of masked desire, where pain and passion wove stories in moans and silk.

It had been years since Damon submitted a scenario to the Garden's Mistress. He had described a fantasy so precise it startled even him: no talking, just silent powerplay, a woman bound in public, yet entirely his. The danger wasn’t in the act it was in recognition. To see her. To be seen.

As midnight approached, Damon dressed in all black, donning gloves of soft suede and a raven-feather mask. His frame, tall and cut with restraint, drew eyes even beneath anonymity. A black car took him to the hidden entrance. Vespera’s guards ushered him through the candlelit catacombs. When he stepped into the Garden, breath left his lungs.

It was madness, beauty, and temptation made flesh.

Vines draped from marble arches. Naked bodies shimmered under rain kissed leaves. Sighs and gasps curled in the air like incense smoke. Damon walked slowly, observing scenes tucked into nooks: a couple bound back to back while blindfolded strangers worshipped them with their mouths; a man kneeling while a woman traced her heel over his lips.

But none of it distracted him. His pulse surged only when he reached the violet swing.

Esme Leclair.

Bound gently to the vines, violet lace veiling her eyes, her wrists and ankles adorned with lavender rope Damon would have known her even if she were cloaked in moonlight. The curve of her lips, the way her chest rose with restrained breaths, the quiet tilt of her chin she had chosen this. Chosen him.

Mistress Vespera appeared like a whisper behind him.

“She asked for you, Damon,” she said. “And she asked not to know it was you until the moment she feels it. Until the moment, it can’t be anyone else.”

PART 2: The Garden Game

He didn’t speak. That was the rule.

Damon approached her slowly, his boots making no sound on the soft grass. He circled her. One finger, gloved in suede, trailed down her shoulder. She flinched, then stilled. The ropes cradled her, not restrained her. The trust between them was palpable, even unspoken.

He touched her cheek with the back of his hand. She shivered. Her thighs pressed together. Her body responded before her mind could. Damon knelt before her, lips hovering just above her skin, breathing her in. She smelled of citrus, jasmine, and something uniquely Esme.

His hands explored slowly: her sides, her thighs, the backs of her knees. He didn’t rush. That was the pleasure. Anticipation.

He stood behind her. One hand held her throat gently, the other sliding under the hem of her violet slip. She gasped but didn’t cry out. His fingers teased, probed, and retreated.

The first orgasm he gave her was with his voice alone. He leaned in and whispered, low and hoarse, “Good girl.”

Her body spasmed.

He bit her shoulder gently. Her body arched against the ropes, her lips parting in a breathless moan.

When she whispered, “Please” he untied one wrist, then the other. Scooping her into his arms, he carried her to the altar of stone roses. There, under cascading vines and flickering gaslights, he spread her out like an offering.

PART 3: The Confession in the Rain

Thunder rolled in the distance. Rain began to fall light at first, then heavier. The Garden never stopped.

Damon removed his mask.

Esme opened her eyes. Her gasp caught the rain.

“Damon,” she breathed. Not a question. A revelation.

“You knew?”

“I prayed it was you.”

They kissed under the rain, mouths frantic, hearts raw. When he slid into her, it wasn’t possession. It was worship. The altar beneath them shook with every thrust. She clung to him like he was the only reality.

“I thought you feared this,” she whispered between gasps.

“I feared I couldn’t stop if I started.”

“Then don’t stop.”

They fucked through the storm. Drenched. Drunk on each other. When she came again, she screamed his name.

Back in the confession room, damp and trembling, Damon picked up the black confession ledger.

"Tonight I saw myself. Not the mask. Not the myth. But the man. And she touched every part of him.

I confess: I don’t want her for a night. I want her for every unspoken desire I’ve buried. I want her in and out of the Garden.

No more masks. No more rules.

Just her and me.”

He signed it simply:
