Chapter 143 142: Selene, Seraphine & Silver Roses
Chapter 143 142: Selene, Seraphine & Silver Roses
Light consumed everything.
When Seraphine stepped into the storm of power and poured every fragment of herself into the AetherCurrent, the universe itself seemed to pause.
Blue energy erupted outward, meeting darkness not with violence but with overwhelming creation.
Light swallowed shadow.
The collision froze reality.
For one endless moment-
Everything stopped.
Then the AetherCurrent exploded into blinding brilliance.
Seraphine screamed as power surged through every part of her being. It felt like holding an ocean inside a fragile human body.
Her magic burned.
Her mind fractured under the weight of it.
Her vision shattered into white.
And then-
darkness.
⸻
Soft wind brushed her skin.
Seraphine slowly opened her eyes.
The battlefield was gone.
Instead, she stood in an endless field of flowers stretching as far as the horizon. Petals of every color imaginable swayed gently beneath a golden sky that seemed to glow with quiet peace.
Lavender.
Moon lilies.
Silver roses.
Flowers she had never seen before.
The air smelled sweet and warm, carrying the soft hum of life itself.
Seraphine blinked slowly.
"Where... am I?"
Her voice felt distant, as if she were speaking through water.
Then she noticed someone.
A woman stood several yards away, kneeling beside a cluster of glowing flowers. She moved with quiet grace, carefully watering the delicate plants as if they were precious treasures.
Her long silver hair fell like moonlight down her back, and her presence radiated a calm power that seemed to soothe the very air around her.
Seraphine's heart skipped.
Something about her felt painfully familiar.
She stepped forward slowly.
"Hello?" she called.
The woman paused.
Then she turned.
The moment Seraphine saw her face-
The world stopped.
Those eyes.
That gentle smile.
Her breath caught in her throat.
"Mother?"
The word escaped before she could stop it.
Selene Emberlain looked at her with soft surprise, as if seeing a beloved memory come to life.
"Seraphine."
That was all it took.
Seraphine ran.
Tears blurred her vision as she crossed the field and threw her arms around the woman, sobbing uncontrollably.
"I missed you," she cried. "I missed you so much."
Selene embraced her gently, holding her daughter as if she had done so a thousand times before.
"Oh, my child," she murmured softly, brushing Seraphine's hair back.
Seraphine clung to her like someone afraid the moment might vanish.
"There were so many things I wanted to tell you," she whispered through tears. "So many times I needed you and you weren't there."
Selene held her for a long moment before gently pulling back.
But her expression carried a quiet concern.
"My daughter," she said softly, "what are you doing here?"
Seraphine sniffed, confused.
"What do you mean?"
Selene cupped her cheek gently.
"You are not meant to be here yet."
The words sank slowly into Seraphine's mind.
Fear flickered through her chest.
"I... I couldn't stop it," she admitted weakly. "The Aetherstar was too powerful. I tried, Mother, I really did. But I couldn't defeat it."
Her gaze dropped to the flowers at her feet.
"They chose the wrong person," she whispered brokenly. "Maybe someone else should have been the Aetherborn. Someone stronger."
Selene was silent for a moment.
Then she lowered herself gracefully until she was kneeling at Seraphine's level.
Her voice, when she spoke again, carried the calm strength of someone who had seen entire ages pass.
"My beloved daughter," she said gently, "do you truly believe destiny makes mistakes?"
Seraphine hesitated.
Selene gestured softly toward the vast field surrounding them.
"Look around you."
Seraphine did.
The flowers stretched endlessly, vibrant and alive.
"Do you see how beautiful this garden is?" Selene asked.
Seraphine nodded faintly.
"It lives because I care for it," Selene continued. "I nurture it. I guide its growth. I protect it from harm."
She picked up a delicate white flower and held it between her fingers.
"But if I abandoned it... if I lost faith in my purpose..."
The flower slowly dimmed in her hand.
"...everything here would wither."
Seraphine watched the petals fade in quiet shock.
Selene let the flower drift back to the soil.
"That is the nature of the Aetherborn," she said softly. "We are not merely warriors. We are caretakers of existence itself. I once carried the same burden you now bear."
Seraphine stared at her.
"But if you were the Aetherborn... then why-"
"Why did I fall?" Selene finished softly.
A shadow of memory passed through her eyes.
"Because I did not understand who I truly was."
Seraphine shook her head.
"I don't understand."
Selene placed a hand gently over her daughter's heart.
"The Aetherborn is not chosen for strength alone. The heavens create us because the world will always face forces that seek to tear it apart."
She looked toward the endless horizon.
"And when that darkness rises... the Aetherborn rises with it."
Seraphine's voice trembled.
"But the Aetherstar was stronger than me."
Selene's gaze sharpened slightly.
"No."
The word carried quiet authority.
"The Aetherstar is born from energy drawn from the AetherCurrent."
She met Seraphine's eyes.
"And who commands the AetherCurrent?"
Seraphine's breath slowed.
"The... Aetherborn."
Selene nodded.
"You."
The realization rippled through her mind.
"You control the very source of its existence," Selene continued gently. "The only thing that can weaken an Aetherborn..."
She touched Seraphine's forehead lightly.
"...is doubt."
Seraphine lowered her gaze.
"I was afraid."
Selene smiled warmly.
"Of course you were."
She brushed a tear from Seraphine's cheek.
"Fear is one of the strongest emotions in existence. It clouds the heart and convinces us we are smaller than we truly are."
Her voice softened.
"But the moment an Aetherborn lets go of fear... the moment she embraces the truth of who she is..."
She stood slowly, the field glowing brighter around her.
"...creation itself bends to her will."
Seraphine stared at her.
Selene extended her hand gently.
"You are not merely Seraphine."
Her voice echoed softly across the endless garden.
"You are the Aetherborn."
"The protector of worlds."
"The keeper of balance."
"And the daughter of Selene Emberlain."
Warm light surrounded Seraphine.
"Now," Selene said softly, pride shining in her eyes, "go back and remind the universe who you are."
The garden began dissolving into starlight.
Seraphine felt herself falling backward through endless space.
Her mother's voice echoed one last time.
"Trust yourself."
The stars spun.
The light collapsed.
And Seraphine gasped as her eyes snapped open.
She was back in the AetherCurrent.
Energy still crackled through the cosmic battlefield.
But something was wrong.
The violent presence that had filled the dimension moments ago-
Was gone.
Her heart dropped.
The Aetherstar had escaped.
Seraphine slowly pushed herself to her feet.
Her blue eyes began to glow once more.
And far away, back in Aetherborn-
The battle was still waiting for her.
