Chapter 12
Larry sat on his bed late in the evening typing on his computer when there was a knock at the door. "Come in."
Rebecca opened the door and walked in. "Am I disturbing you?"
"No, I'm just trying to find out information on the cannery. Did you have another nightmare?"
"No I haven't been to sleep yet."
Larry closed his laptop and placed it on the nightstand. "Come here." He patted the bed.
Rebecca walked over and sat at the foot of the bed. Larry sat up. "Are you scared you will have a nightmare?"
"I keep thinking about everything that has gone on today."
"What about?"
"The apartment being a mess, my brother showing up, the way my parents acted, the feelings I'm having. Everything is just so hard for my mind to handle."
"I know it must be hard, but it will be over soon," Larry said. "We can't help who our parents are or the way they act. I wish my father was different. That's for sure."
"My mind keeps going through everything that has happened. I can't seem to stop it."
"If I could stop the confusion, I would. I would do anything to help you."
"I know you would. You are a good man, Lawrence Newman. The only thing that doesn't scare me right now is to knowing you are there for me. One thing that does scare me is the feelings I am having for you." Rebecca said as she shifted on the bed. "Last night, we were working with emotions of fear and comfort. I don't want to do that again." She said then got off the bed. She walked around to the side of the bed he was on and pulled down the covers. She got on the bed sitting on top of him. She bent down and kissed him. She moved slowly back and forth then pulled back a little. "Tonight I want to explore more." She kissed him. "To touch more." She said as she moved her hands over his chest. She grabbed his shirt and pulled it over his head.
Two hours later, Larry cuddled with Rebecca on the bed. "Are you comfortable?"
"Yes, I am very comfortable in your arms."
"That's good to know," Larry said. They fell asleep.
Rebecca woke up alone in the bed. She heard the shower. She got up and went into the bathroom. She stepped into the shower. "Mind if I join you?"
Larry turned around. "Not at all." He said as he pulled her close. He engulfed her lips.
Larry and Rebecca sat at the table eating breakfast when someone knocked at the door. Larry walked over and opened the door. "Come on in, Brian." He moved aside and gestured him in. They walked over to the table where they were eating.
"Good morning, Brian. Join us for some breakfast. We have plenty," Rebecca said.
"I have some information that was on the card." He said as he held up a folder.
"That can wait until after we eat. Sit, eat some breakfast."
"I'll take some coffee, I guess." Brian said as he sat down.
Rebecca poured Brian some coffee. "Have you eaten?"
"I ate earlier in my room."
"I couldn't decide what I wanted so Larry ordered everything," Rebecca said.
"I see that." Brian said. "I want you to know that you are a brilliant young woman. It took me all night to figure out the encryption."
"Thank you, but can we just enjoy breakfast?" Rebecca asked. "I'm not ready to think about that yet."
"Well, you both look well rested."
"Yes, we slept really good," Larry said.
"I didn't have any nightmares. Partly because we exhausted ourselves and partly because I was safe in Larry's arms."
"I didn't need to know all that." Brian said. "But I'm happy to know."
Larry smiled then finished his breakfast. "Why don't we go sit where it's more comfortable?"
"Sure." Brian said.
Larry went over to Rebecca and pulled her chair out for her. He pulled her into his arms. "Let's do this then we can do whatever you want."
"I probably won't be in mood to do anything after this."
"I know, but we can find something to do," Larry said. They walked over to the sitting area and sat down.
Brian opened up the folder. "When your memory comes back, you must tell me how you did this." He held out the folder to them. "Those are the pictures. The videos are taking longer."
"So, he's paying someone for something."
"Or he's being paid. I'm not sure which."
They looked at more pictures. Rebecca got up and hurried back to the bedroom before they could finish. Larry finished looking at the pictures. "Is this enough evidence to put him behind bars?"
"I don't know. The article Rebecca wrote is really compelling. It isn't justice for what he did to Rebecca, though."
"But it's motive. If we could place him at the scene of the crime would be good."
"I know. The chief was looking at traffic cameras in the area but he hasn't called me with anything."
"Do you think we could bring to the district attorney and see?"
"I don't know. The two incidents are in two jurisdictions."
"I want him behind bars, Brian."
"All right. I'll talk to the chief and send him the pictures."
"Thank you. We can head back on an hour’s notice. My pilot is standing by."
"All right." Brian said. "Do you want me to email the videos to you?"
"I guess you can. Let me knows what the chief says. I need to check on Rebecca."
"I guess you didn't screw up like you thought."
"I guess not." Larry got up. "Thanks Brian." He said as he shook his hand. Larry walked back to Rebecca's door. He knocked on the door. "Rebecca, are you all right?" He called through the door. Rebecca didn't answer. "I know you're in there. You can't ignore me."
"I want to be left alone."
"I don't think you should be."
"I do. Please Larry. Just leave me alone."
Larry stood by the door for a few minutes then went to the other room. He loaded the dishes on the cart and pushed it out into the hallway. He went to his room and picked up his laptop. He went out to the sitting area and sat down.
