Chapter 21: Threatened.

" No, sir. We weren't able to speak for too long, since he was the host." Lacey replied and Mr. Dave hissed in anger.

" I know that you had a conversation with him, so don't even try to pretend like you didn't spend sufficient time with him." Mr. Dave responded. He didn't know why she was stalling? Did she think that he wasn't going to follow through with his threat? " Do you remember that your salary is at stake?" He asked her.

" I'm sorry, sir. I'll make sure to reschedule another meeting. He was too preoccupied tonight, I couldn't get him to sign the papers." She said not remembering to add that she forgot the file at home. " I'll make sure that we get a positive response, sir." She promised. That was what Dave wanted to hear.

" You better, you are coming in to work tomorrow." Mr. Dave said and she nodded before humming quietly.

" Yes, sir." It doesn't go without saying slave master. Mr. Dave drove them to slave like a workhorse and she didn't know why she was still working for him despite his manners.

" We'll draw up another paperwork that will help with getting him to do what we want from him. I need his signature on Monday." He said and Lacey nodded again and asked herself if it was that easy why did he always shy away from talking to Alistair.

" Yes sir." She repeats again and stares at the large compound, who could she call to come pick her up? The driver's number was not going through and she had sent a text message to him but he didn't respond.

"Are you looking for a cab? My driver will take you home." Alistair said.

Saved by the bell again, or rather Mr. Alistair again. At least he was useful and would make sure that at least she got home safely.

A wide grin appeared on her face and she clasped her hand in front of her, " Thank you very much sir."

Alistair waved his hand in the air as if it was nothing and she didn't buy his act. He loved appreciation too much, it probably stroked his ego.

"This is one of the little things that will happen if you agree to be mine." He said with an evil grin.

Lacey felt chills run up her arms and she stared at him. " We agreed to be friends, sir." She replied politely.

" I don't intend to remain there for long." He said while giving her a warning smile and she moved back a bit.

" We'll see on Monday."

" On Monday?" He asked.

" Yes, sir. I sent an email." Lacey lied, she was just going to send that email after she was done with this conversation.

" I didn't see it."

"I'll resend it, sir." She told Alistair so that he would get his mind prepared. She had met a client one day who insisted that because she had not given him heads-up of her arrival and meeting he wouldn't invest with them. For all her principles about not having anything to do with customers, she almost went on her knees.

" Okay, then. Have a goodnight love." He said and she rolled her eyes as the car pulled up and she marched into it, not bothering to wait and see his face.

"Make sure to call me when you arrive at home. You'll soon stop living there anytime soon." He called and Lacey walked into the car.

She had a lot of things to say but she kept mum, it wasn't everything that one had to say coupled with the fact that Alistair had the power to destroy her career, all he needed was one bad word and they would see rumors flying. These business owners were well connected and they had a strong affinity for each other, they did whatever their fellow asked.

She was not planning on leaving the country now so she had better wait.

Meanwhile, Mark was at home, tapping his foot on the ground, as he waited for his wife to return. He didn't know what was happening, why was she taking too long. Didn't they know that she was a married woman? Who kept a married woman outside her home for such a long while. It was disrespectful.

As he was having those thoughts, he heard a car horn and he flew downstairs to welcome his wife. That was his escape from reality and he hoped that he didn't do anything to upset her tonight.

" Hello, you are just arriving." He began when Lacey walked closer to Mark.

" Please move out of my way." She said and proceeded upstairs without considering how he felt.

Her phone buzzed and she picked up.

" Elsa, how are you doing?" She inquired trying to stop anyone from asking her how her day went.

" Fine."

"I heard that you attended the infamous Mr. Alistair's party. How true is that?" She asked.

" Yes, I really enjoyed it so much that I didn't want the party to end." She lied, knowing fully well that Mark was busy eavesdropping on her conversation.

" Okay, so what did your husband say about it?" Elsa asked, "Surely Mark would be displeased right?" She asked.

" I don't understand why you can't speak to me directly, must you always mention the godforsaken man?" Lacey replied angrily. She was tired of hearing advice on how to put him forward when she also needed some care.

" Lacey, this is not the person I know. I mean, you wouldn't go against your husband this way."

"I guess I am a brand new woman who wants to begin her life without any baggage of any form, that's not too much to ask is it?" She responded.

" This is not the..."

" If you want, you can have him. I'll give you another ten years and see if the music wouldn't be the same. If you don't complain to me that he is truly a lazy man who deserves all the hurtful words in the world." Lacey said and Mark gasped outside.
