Chapter 27 Chapter 27 – The Waiting Game
Chapter 27 Chapter 27 – The Waiting Game
Dante
The sex is a fact. It’s a line item on the ledger of our marriage contract, executed with brutal efficiency. I take her on desks, against walls, in the back of moving cars. I fill her until she’s trembling, until my seed coats her insides, a down payment on the heir she owes me.
Her body sings for me. It knows its master. She gets slick at my touch, convulses when I bring her close, clenches around my cock with a desperate hunger she thinks she can hide.
I know she loves being fucked by me. This morning in the shower, I had her pinned against the cold marble, my fingers buried inside her, and she came with a shattered, silent scream, her body’s frantic convulsions the only proof. She bit her lip until it bled to keep from making a sound, but the raw, physical truth of her pleasure was undeniable.
And that is precisely what drives me to the brink of violence.
Because while her body is a symphony of perfect, carnal surrender, her mind is a fortress. Her eyes go distant. She stares through me, her thoughts a thousand miles away, fixed on the patterns the water makes against the glass.
She gives me the physical reaction, the perfect, clockwork performance of an orgasm, but she denies me the spectacle of her submission. She denies me her pleasure, even as her cunt milks me for every drop.
It’s a new kind of defiance, more subtle and maddening than any of her previous attempts at rebellion. She’s turned sex into a duty she performs with the vacant stare of a soldier on watch. It’s an insult. A direct challenge to the totality of my ownership.
I don’t just want her flesh. I’ve already conquered that territory. I want her fury, her surrender, her focus. I want to watch the fire in her eyes turn to ash or explode into a supernova when I touch her. I don’t want this… this insulting absence.
I’m waiting on the doctor’s call. The preliminary results from the fertility specialist. My own tests are a formality. I may be forty-five, but my body operates with the ruthless efficiency of a weaponized machine, a fact she is intimately familiar with.
Her blood, however, will tell a story. I have a suspicion, a cold, hard certainty coiling in my gut, that her internal rebellion is not just psychological.
She thinks she’s clever. She thinks she can outwit me with a secret shield, a chemical lie that prevents the one outcome I demand. It’s the ultimate betrayal of our contract. A vow broken before the ink was even dry. She agreed to an heir. If she’s actively preventing it, then she’s stealing from me as surely as her father did.
Last night, I took her on the floor of the library. I held her hips, angling her to take me deeper, and her head was turned, her cheek pressed against the worn leather of a discarded book. She was bucking against me, her sounds muffled by the pressure of my mouth on her throat, her body a live wire of pure sensation.
But her eyes were open, unfocused, and she wasn’t seeing the room. She was calculating. Scheming. Escaping into whatever mental fortress she’s built to survive me. She was using the pleasure I gave her as a distraction to plot my downfall. The silence is worse than her screams. Her compliance is more infuriating than her defiance.
This waiting game is beneath me. I don’t wait for variables to align. I create them. I am the architect of outcomes, not a spectator. Her emotional detachment is a problem, and I will solve it with the same brutal logic I apply to every other aspect of my empire.
This is a weakness in my organization, a flaw in the asset I’ve acquired, and it needs to be corrected.
I find her in her new office, the glass cage I built next to mine. She’s staring at a screen full of logistics data, but I know she’s not reading it. She’s just going through the motions. Her posture is perfect. Her focus, a perfect lie. She has a pen held loosely in her hand, but it hasn’t moved in ten minutes. She’s lost in her own world.
I don’t knock. I own the air in this room.
She looks up as I enter, her expression carefully neutral. “Did you need something?”
“I need your attention,” I say, walking to her desk.
I lean against it, crossing my arms, crowding her space until the scent of my cologne displaces the sterile air around her. The way her nostrils flare and her lids droop slightly every time she smells me, betrays how much my fragrance affects her.
“Your complete, undivided attention.”
Her chin lifts a fraction. “You have it.”
“No,” I say, my voice dangerously soft. “I have your presence. I have the shell of Mya Cardello sitting in my chair. I require the rest of her.”
I reach out, my finger tracing the sharp line of her jaw. She flinches but doesn’t pull away.
“I want the part of you that’s currently plotting my demise. I want the part of you that’s counting the seconds until you can escape. I want that present when I’m fucking you.”
A flicker of something crosses her face before she smothers it. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You will.”
I push off the desk. It’s time to change the rules. It’s time to force her out of her mental bunker and back onto the battlefield where she belongs.
“Your passive resistance ends tonight. I can tolerate your spy games and venomous hatred. I won’t stand for your mental absence. From now on, your submission will be an active choice.”
Her brow furrows in confusion, but her pulse jumps at her throat. I see it. A frantic, terrified bird beating against the cage of her skin. She knows the hammer is about to fall.
“Our current arrangement is inefficient,” I state, each word a cold, polished stone.
“From now on, you will initiate sex once per day. Consider it your baseline duty. It doesn’t mean I won’t take you more often. I’ll still have my wicked way with you whenever the mood takes me. It simply means that, at a minimum, you will offer yourself to me once every day. You will make me believe you want it. If you fail to do so by midnight on any given day, there will be a consequence.” I let that hang in the air, a promise of violence she can’t misinterpret.
“What consequence?” she whispers, her voice shaking.
I smile. The slow, cruel smile that men see before I end them.
“The one that matters most to you. For every day you fail to obey, I will offer you a piece of your father. A finger. An ear. I have a very creative surgeon on retainer. He can keep a man alive for a long time while dismantling him piece by piece. I’ll keep bringing them to you until he’s gone, or you learn your lesson. Your choice.”
The blood drains from her face. She looks like she might be sick. Good. I need her terrified, but I also need her thinking. This new rule will force her to be strategic, to plan her seductions, to actively engage with the reality of our dynamic. She will have to use that brilliant, defiant mind to please me.
“You’re nothing but a savage animal,” she chokes out.
“I am your husband,” I correct her calmly. “And my patience for this game has run out. I will not be a stranger in my own marriage bed. You will look at me. You will speak to me. You will be present.”
I turn and walk out, leaving her in the silent glass box with my ultimatum.
