MRS PAXTON POV
I was already regretting coming here, the building held memories i had fought hard to forget. It was the beginning of my husband problems and i remembered vividly how i warned him to stay away from from this family. I knew they were up to no good, they didn't seem to care about a damn thing and Mr Paxton had ruined a quota of our empire by allowing them have a say in the business.
They were Lena's parents, i have known them to be selfish and self centered, never really caring about the out come of a decision or action as long as it wasn't affecting them. They made my husband make that promise to marry Luna and the only reason i still chose to accept was because they ended up giving Lena who i had done a background research on and i saw that she was the good one. Now that her life was threatened, i didn't expect them to just sit back and act like they don't understand what was happening, she was supposed to be on their care after all, and they didn't deserve to be fine if all wasn't well with her.
The hospitality i received as soon as i stepped foot into the house was really nice, and i knew it was fake. The Del Marios couple only cared about the gains that came with with being connected with my family and as long as that was happening they were willing to sell their soul out. Cynthia was the one i hated most, but she was the first one i met.
“Hello mrs Del Mario, its been a minute although i thought you were going to take frequent visits to the house you know, check how your daughter is faring and all that.”
“Oh please, call me Cynthia, our family has been through so much together and i don't think its needed to act all formal.”
She was right, our family had been through a lot, but all setbacks were caused by their opinions. And i certainly didn't want to speak informally with her, because she was going to ride on that.
“Oh i will put that into consideration next time, Cynthia.”
“Thank you. Now about Lena, i don't want to disturb. The young one and her husband. They are knew to this whole stuff and they might be trying to get to know themselves, now we grown ups don't want to get in the middle of all that now do we?”
“You are right, we don't. But from what i know, she asked to see you and you declined, you can't just leave your child away with someone you barely know okay? Its too dangerous.”
“I don't get you mrs paxton, Richard is family, you are family and i don't see what wrong i have done in that.”
Like i thought, she was being insensitive again, i wanted to speak to Mr delmario, he was a better person to speak to because he had better understanding in critical situations.
“Where is your husband?, i was hoping i could speak to him.”
“Oh well whatever you want to say to him, its better if you told me. I will pass the information to him, i am the one that makes the Decisions most times”
Of course, It had to be her making those weird ass decisions.
“Uhm look, things haven't gone smoothly between Lena and Ruchard like we planned, and i was hoping we could denounce the marriage contract.”
“Oh no please dont do that mrs paxton, i will call Lena to order if i have to, you know she doesn't really know much, i could call her and give her good counsel, but calling it offf would not look good on both families.”
“You should be grateful i am doing this, i only want to make sure that Lena is safe. And bold of you to assume that Lena is the problem when my son is, and i won't sit back and allow a young beautiful woman suffer.”
“Then it still falls back at Lena, i will make sure I speak to her, even if Richard might be a lot to handle, she should learn to compromise regardless, they are humans and everyone has their flaws.”
“So what you are trying to tell me right now is that you don’t care if Lena is in danger, all that matters to you is business and you would not want to denounce the marriage. I thought you loved Lena.”
“And I do, which is why I wanted her to marry your son, that way I have helped her secure a future for herself and her future kids, she should be grateful for a mother like me who is always thinking ten steps ahead, just allow me to speak to my own child and everything will be in order.”
“I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, she might not live the see the day if I keep letting things slide, I am worried for her and the child she’s carrying.”
“She’s pregnant?” She questioned
“What sort of a mother are you even?, you don’t even know if your daughter is pregnant or not. That’s really sad.”
“Uhm, it’s always hard to tell these things especially because Lena and I haven’t spoken in a while.”
“Not even an excuse and I can tell you freely, you’ll be doing her a favor if you let her go , set her away from Richard. There will be a meeting today I’m assuming you know about it, but I just wish that you’d be able to speak up during the meeting. Yourself and mr Mario have shares, you Hold a sufficient piece and all I need you to do is vote against my son when the voting starts.”
“And what if something happens?, I can’t bear the consequences for something I didn’t even do. You said it yourself Richard is dangerous and if we go against him, and things don’t turn out in our favour then we are all going down. I can’t allow that.”
“I guarantee you that I have sorted enough people to make sure things don’t go south, just play your part and your daughter will be walking freely by the end of today, and the best part?, I intend to add to your shares.”
One thing I had learnt from my husband was the fact that if you were going to win a battle, you go to any lenghts and since I knew how selfish the Mario’s were, I decided that extra shares for such small favor was going to catch their attention
“See you at the meeting then, afterall I care about my Lena, I don’t want no harm coming to her.” She smiled.
“Thank you for accepting my offer. Do you want me to drive us to the office or…”
“ you don’t want Richard to see that we have made an alignment, going together might disrupt our plans, so how about I come separately.”
“Perfect, see you soon.”
I was glad that I bought her to my side, myself and the few trusted persons I still had that were loyal to my husband were enough to send Richard packing and to focus on the future.
I sighed as soon as I parked my car and saw Richard kissing Kayla out in the open, he wasn’t just frolicking around with another woman but he was now doing it openly in the public for anyone that cared to see it, how despicable.
I walked past them and entered into the Board room where most people were already seated. I felt nervous but I maintained composure because I had enough alignment to get this deal done. Soon enough the directors were complete and the voting started. Richard gave his speech and the voting started.
I had made sure the voting was an open one, I didn’t want any type of lies to be spread around saying we cheated, I also wanted to see if anyone was going to go behind my back and vote for Richard.
I was the first to raise my hand against him, the. Tyler, then a few others. It was looking in our favor already, all that was needed was for the del Mario’s to complete the number and we were set to go. I looked in Cynthia’s direction and she looked away. Of course she had betrayed me, for reasons unknown. I had tried to save her child, and her grandchild whilst offering her something in return,and now she went against me. Richard picked up the microphone victoriously and smiled
“Now that we know I won’t be leaving anytime soon, o want to say a big thank you to everyone that has believed in me, and I promise to do better. This meeting is over.”
Some people clapped while few murmured at the outcome, I saw the del Mario’s try to hurry out and I quickly rushed to meet with them outside.
“What do you think you’ve don Cynthia?” I questioned angrily
“Oh the best decision for my family, you know they always come first.”
“You’ve destroyed Lena, you’ve failed her as a mother. And here you are, excited about that?”
“Your son is a failure but you don’t see me calling you out for it every single time, and as for Lena, she will learn to tame her husband, and you will stay out of their way.”
“You wench.” I tried to hit her but Richard held me back
“Now now mother, you don’t want to seem insane in front of all these people, how about a little chat….”
