Chapter 109 Chapter one hundred and Nine
Diana
“Feed me.” She moved unhurriedly, setting herself down on the bed.
I thought I had heard her wrongly. My lips parted. “You… want me to feed you?”
Alessia raised one eyebrow. “Do I need to repeat myself?”
“No.”
I stood up immediately.
My hands shook as I moved towards the tray. I picked up the bowl, then the spoon, suddenly aware of how ridiculous I felt.
A few minutes ago, I thought she would kill me for betraying her, and I had pushed my luck confessing to her. Now she wanted me to feed her. Was this her forgiving me or not?
I sat beside the bed. She shifted.
“Careful,” I whispered. “Your wound—”
“I know where my wound is, Diana.”
Alessia leaned back slightly against the pillows, her eyes stayed glued on me. Dark, but there was something floating in them, and one thing I knew, it wasn’t anger.
I held the first scoop of porridge up for her.
“You will not keep anything from me again. Not about anything. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“And you will not step an inch out of my sight.”
“I won’t.”
She held my gaze for a long moment, then opened her mouth for the next spoonful. I gave it to her. The simple act of feeding her felt more intimate than the kiss, because she was allowing it. Because she was letting me stay close while she decided what I was still worth to her.
Outside the window, the sky was darkening.
Inside the room, the only sound was the quiet clink of the spoon against the bowl and the unevenness of my breathing.
I kept feeding her until the bowl was empty. I got up and placed it on the table. She spoke one last time, softer than before.
“Come here.”
I moved to the edge of the bed. She didn’t reach for me. She simply looked at me like she was still measuring the distance between what I had done and what she was willing to keep.
She lifted her hands to my cheeks and pulled me close till our lips met. Softly this time. Her hand laced through my hair. The kiss was everything. I felt the strange electrifying sensation all over my body as I wrapped my hand around her neck deepening it. She pulled away, her eyes were lustrous and dark, like she didn’t want to stop but had to.
“You introduced me as a friend to Thomas.”
I swallowed.
“Do friends do that?"

I knew Alessia wouldn’t hurt Diana. She loved her more deeply than she ever admitted. But the hidden backstory was huge. What Diana went through was something I was sensitive to. My family sold me. But she was married to the woman whose mother murdered and sold her away.
Alessia was taking a risk. I hated that a victim like her had to be deceived, but it was beyond my duty. I would say it was best she didn’t know. I lit the candle that burnt the last piece of evidence and the pictures into the waste bin.
My phone chimed. It was Cynthia—KJA’s Secretary—she had sent me a text message with a file attached to it.
I know this has something to do with the boss’s death, so I differentiated the people acquainted to her in a different file.
I opened the file. The first name I saw was Cameron Vincenzo.
Zach Vincenzo.
Including the names of every member of the table, including Valentino.
Why would Valentino purchase a male watch? My gaze sharpened. I took a deep breath. I moved to the drawer, pulled it out, grabbed a tablet, and swallowed it without water.
The man had died without giving me any more useful details. I opened the door and walked out. The name of the mole was Juventus Chopra. I looked it up after I captured him. I will find out where he worked, frequented, and a member of his family.
Through that means, I would figure out which organization he was working under. Everything would be traceable. It was already getting dark outside.
Good, because nightlife in Horrixo was when those kinds of people chose to come out. They didn’t know the moon shined brightest at night.
I opened the wardrobe and pulled out a short leather skirt and wide net hose to go under it. I paired it with a crop top tight enough for my boobs to bulge. I ruffled my hair to look messy and applied a sharp red lipstick.
I knew one casino. I grabbed my purse, of course not forgetting to wear the highest heels I could.
I stepped out just in time to bump into Butler Beatrix. Her eyes took in my dressing, but she didn’t give a response.
This time, she wasn’t wearing her mourning clothes anymore.
“There’s a man here to see The Lady,” she informed. Seeing she didn’t mention anymore, it was obvious she didn’t know who he was.
Turning him away was stupid. “Where?”
“At the living room.”
I hummed.
A figure dressed in a midnight-black suit, tailored to accentuate his broad-shouldered, tiny-waist build, stood with his back faced towards me, looking at a painting on the wall.
His posture regal, his hands folded across his back, he carried a scent of confidence, authority, and power around him.
“She’s lonely.” His deep baritone voice, thick with an accent I had heard before, filled my ears. A quiet acknowledgement that he knew I was there even though he didn’t turn around yet. The painting was of a girl fighting off creatures of shadows.
My hand moved to the band of the skirt where I had kept a foldable knife.
“Was she this lonely?” he asked.
“Who are you?”
He turned, revealing his well-structured face, his beard full and well trimmed, a scar ran down from his eyebrow, across his eye, and stopped at his cheekbone.
What held me in place was the indescribable resemblance of the golden eyes I had served for decades.
He took me in fully from head to my toes and even beyond.
“Matteo Borgatta.” He replied with a smirk.
