Chapter 39 Dizzy

The strong sterile scent permeated my nostrils as I came to consciousness. My head was pounding as though it had been bludgeoned with a wooden bat and threatening to split my skull open. I tried to open my eyes, but they seemed to be glued shut, and my body seemed much too feeble to heed my orders. It was a frustrating situation. As a result, I chose to remain still and pay attention to my immediate surroundings.
“How is she?” Kael's voice, resonating with his questions, drew my attention, and if my memory serves me correctly, he is making a direct reference to me.
The last thing I remember is that we were strolling along the cobbled pavement, heading somewhere God knows where. I was having a conversation with Val, then suddenly I felt dizzy.
And then, here I am, in some place, somewhere in this dreaded place. Though there is a little part of me hoping that we are back in my room. The aroma, on the other hand, is quite strange. Fortunately, the surface that I was laid on was soft, which I assumed was a bed, and it was pretty comfortable. The smell of antiseptic lingers in my nostrils, and if I had to guess, they might have taken me into a hospital or clinic. Which, to be honest, I think is completely ludicrous. Who would have believed that such a lawless place as this existed, yet, as perplexing as it may appear, it is equipped with its own medical clinic?
My attention suddenly shifted towards something that moved right next to the bed that I was on. The noise caused by the scraping chair’s leg against the floor caught my hearing, followed by a voice I couldn’t recognize.
“She is well, Master Kael. It's just that her blood sugar dropped dramatically.” He explained my situation as to why I suddenly fainted.
“Had she eaten anything this day? Had she been with the other pets?” His voice was slightly trembling as he spoke like he was scared of how Kael would react to his inquiry.
I wouldn’t blame him for having those fears. Kael was ruthless and is notorious as someone that delights in taking one’s life for his own pleasure. One mistake in his judgments could also mean imminent death.
Surprisingly enough, I never thought that this place had its own physician too. What else do I have to expect here? Maybe this dreaded hellhole had a salon and spa the next thing I know. Despite this, I still tried to force the lids of my eyes to lift, yet my endeavor rendered to be fruitless once again.
There was a long pause stretching between the two, and I thought Kael had left and refused to answer the question asked. Now that I came to think of it, I did not eat anything else aside from those pop tarts. However, Kael didn’t seem to have known that. He didn’t even cast me a single glance throughout the auction, aside from the time when I called for his attention and asked for the use of the ladies’ room.
The incident that happened afterward had still shaken me up, just as the memories of the old man’s hands touching on my arms. However, the one thing that unsettled me was that Kael killed the butler. Kael is capable of taking someone's life without hesitation, and he would gladly do it if he believed the person to be unworthy of life.
What a monster. Yet, this monster was the very same man that carried me in his arms earlier.
Speaking of the devil, Kael suddenly said, breaking the silence, “We were at the auction the whole day.” I heard him take a long breath as he went on, “But she is alright, then?”
“Yes, just give her something to eat after she regains her consciousness.” The physician replied, and I could only imagine the man nodding his head in fear that one wrong response would be the end of his life.
“You may now leave.” Kael dismisses the physician, and I internally frown at the way he treated the poor man. I could hear the tremor in his voice, yet this dreaded man felt nothing about someone else’s feelings. I feel poor for the man, and if only I could move or at least speak, I would’ve personally thanked him for checking up on me, but alas, I am still as dead. I am only in this situation because some beastly man has forgotten that he had a living creature to feed.
I, unfortunately, was that living creature waiting for her mercy, and after many times I have heard him calling me names, I could say to myself that it didn’t hurt me as much.
“Thank you, master. I shall go, but call me in any case that you need my assistance….”
“Just go.” The physician didn’t even get the chance to finish what he wanted to say, and Kael cut him off with his deathly cold voice, sending the poor man to scurry to his feet. I could even still hear his steps shuffling, descending, followed by the sound of locking the door.
My heart suddenly pounded, suddenly became very aware that we were both alone in this room. The last time we had privacy to ourselves, one thing led to another. I may have appeared unconscious to him, but I am very much awake. I don’t know what is going on inside his head, nor do I have any idea to conclude what he’s going to do, but if he decided to violate me again, I would be in no capacity to defend myself. Or do I have any at all, even if I am awake with eyes.
I felt his presence looming over my stillness. The rough texture of his knuckles grazes on my face down to the slope of my neck, tracing the protruding bone on my collar, and then stops on the flaring swell of my breast. The air caught in my lungs, and my body suddenly became alert, with sheer anticipation running to my veins. The pounding on my chest sounded loudly in my ears.
“I know you can hear me.” He declared.
Well, isn’t that a bummer? He knew. It should take me off guard, but somehow, it didn’t.
I tried even harder, forcing my eyes to peel open.
Fortunately, this time, with a little amount of success, light was able to filter through the frame of my lashes and into my line of vision. The first thing that greeted my vision was the pair of the most beautiful mossy green orbs boring down right through my soul.
Mesmerizing me at the moment.
However, the trance was immediately broken soon as my stomach grumbled loudly.
