Chapter 105 Sabina’s Warning
\[Lilia\]
“No, promise I didn’t!” I instantly raised both of my hands into the air, turned around in a flash, and stared him squarely in the face as I defended myself against an accusation—a truth, which I certainly just did.
But, hey, I'm not going to spill the beans to him about that. He had not yet gathered sufficient evidence, and in my view, a person should always be presumed innocent until they are shown to be guilty.
I vouch for that, and I do hope that he did not see me.
“Where were you then?” Sasha prodded, moving into my line of sight and glancing at me with much skepticism.
On the contrary to what I believed in, this woman right here might be one of my problems in this dilemma.
She’s an assassin, and I am sure as hell she had a good nose in sniffing out liars. The sudden realization to be in her presence made me feel a little uneasy for the same reason.
Though like what she said when we were sparring, if my opponent knows about what I have been planning, then I need to act quickly and think of a way to get out of the situation.
Then I just came up with a brilliant idea. I turned to her and answered her without blinking and kept eye contact just to make sure she’ll believe in everything that I said.
“I was, I was going to get some fresh air. You beat me pretty bad, and I went out for a bit. That’s all.”
Oh, my heart is beating pretty fast in my ribcage, but I got to stay and look calm, so Sasha and Val won’t get into any suspicion that I was lying. I heard everything, and I learned a lot about their identity.
Sasha being an assassin is one thing, and that De Luca man is still out there, and I need to know what he was doing in my room back at the hospital and what he wanted from me. I don’t think it is purely business between that man and Kael, and somehow I am involved in the middle.
I was literally holding my breath, looking at Sasha as she stared back at me with knitted brows, weighing up my alibi, but then Val thankfully bit into the conversation and interjected himself.
“Lilia, you need to get some rest. You had enough training for today,” he said, closing the space between us and bringing my arms down. I turned my attention to him. I was expecting his annoyed expression just like what I saw with him earlier, but I was wrong. He was now smiling at me and turned his attention to Sasha, and nodded his head.
That was odd.
So that's it then? I am not going into trouble?
Although I was surprised by his reaction and my alibi somehow ended up well, I still had to play my part and continue with my award-winning acting if I wanted to get away with my little scheme.
“Well, that’s a good idea,” I said, sighing out in relief as I gently pressed my abdomen where Sasha had hit me pretty bad, and I wasn’t lying when I say it does still hurt. “See you tomorrow.”
I slowly stepped backward, moving towards the benches, and took my stuff, which wasn't that much.
“We’ll practice your gun handling tomorrow,” Val added, and I quickly stiffened, acting so surprised as though I hadn't overheard him say that to Kael as he had been updating that jerk to every activity that I am into.
What a kind of pervert, and most of that, creepy, but it honestly doesn't come as a surprise to me at all.
And oh, I am not mad at Val. He's just doing his job. Nevertheless, I am still very pissed off with his jackass boss.
“Really? That would be cool!” I said cheerily, flinging my tiny duffel bag where I stuffed my spare blouses and water jug.
“So I am not needed here tomorrow then,” Sasha butted into the conversation. She slipped off her gloves, unwound the wrapping that had been around her hands, and then threw them on the benches. She did it expertly and without looking at how she removed them all.
“No, Sasha, you have something you need to do tomorrow,” Val responded to her inquiry, and it got me thinking about what kind of work he was giving her.
Was it to exterminate some guy? The one he was kind of off the mood this morning? I know I heard about their jammed transaction and about a guy named Salvatore.
Okay, I think that's enough prodding for me today. I seriously needed to take Val’s advice and rest for the rest of the day. My gut is killing me, and my jaw stings.
“Alright then, I got to go,” I chirped in, walking past between them and heading towards the door. To my escape, so I can be myself again without this silly acting.
“Rest well, sweet cake,” Val’s voice faded in the background as it echoed into the entire gym soon as I stepped outside.
I took a deep breath and kept my mind occupied as I walked. I don't want to be limping in pain, grimacing all the way to my room. I took the shortest route around the mansion, which happened to be the pool area.
It was only three in the afternoon, and the sun was still high. However, what I didn't expect was that the poolside had been occupied by the least person I wanted to see lounging into one of the pool chairs which I used to stay before.
“How was the training?” she inquires, voicing so interestedly about how my day went, but I am sure of it she doesn't want anything to do with me.
“Fine,” I answered briefly and was about to walk towards the glass door.
I am tired, and talking to her is taking most of my energy left.
“I don't think Kael would be glad seeing his little pet brawling with some Amazonas,” she remarked, looking at my disheveled self.
I know what she meant by it. I gotta protect my face as it was one of the most expensive things that Kael bought, her soon-to-be husband. While I was going around, get beaten up by a dreaded assassin and got a bruised on my cheek and jaw.
I closed my eyes for a moment and inhaled through my nose, internally counting to ten to calm my nerves and look at her.
“What do you want, Sabina?” I ask, wanting to know where this useless conversation was going.
“Oh, nothing, I was lounging in here. It has a pretty view in the woods.” she replied, shrugged her shoulders and leaned back to her chair, completely changing the subject and turning her attention toward the forestland behind the mansion.
“Have you been in there?” She added, reaching for her drink and looking up at me before taking a sip.
I took a deep breath and answered her with, “No.”
I really hate this woman. She was acting as though she wasn’t up to something. With all her innocent smile and sweet voice as though she always cooed. I may have been poor in judging people at first sight, but Sabina is just not it. She gives me vibes that get under my nerve even though she wasn’t doing anything to me yet.
“Oh, I see,” she nodded, putting down her drink back on the table.
“If you don't want to say anything else, I would like to go,” I straightforwardly said and turned my back on her as I started walking towards the glass door. I have no business hitting around the bushes with her or having the interest in hearing what else she wanted to say.
What I wanted was a nice bath and rest. Tomorrow is shooting day, and I am honestly excited about it. I cannot let this woman ruin that excitement.
Although she’s really getting close to it.
However, before I could open the door, Sabina suddenly said something that made me stiffen. My hand suspended into the air from taking the doorknob.
“He’s not going to keep you long. Kael will get rid of you soon, and I couldn't wait for that to happen.”
Hah! So there it is, coming straight from her mouth. She doesn’t want me around, and I am sure she did something that could throw me off the loop and out of Kael’s life.
Though one more thing, I do not care anymore. I don’t want to see Kael’s face either, and if so, Sabina is doing me a great favor.
As I lowered my hand and turned back to face her, a grin spread across my lips. “Well, then I would be glad to make you the happiest woman alive when that happens,” I said, smirking the way I saw her brows lifted as though she wasn’t expecting me to say that. “And I couldn't wait either.”
With that, I quickly pivoted to the balls of my heels and pulled the door open, ignoring the searing gaze I could feel burning at the back of my head.
She can shove Kael up to her ass for all I care.
Though, I must admit, the thought of him choosing that vile woman instead of me kind of hurts like hell.
