Ch 26: Improvemet; Second Star Esper

Elysia explained many things about the Voidfrost Weevils to Emrys, and he was shocked by what he heard. He learned that Voidfrost Weevils are very rare among insectoids. Unlike other insectoids, they do not have large numbers. They live in small groups, and each group is usually led by a strong Voidfrost Weevil, often a Royal or True Royal.

This immediately made Emrys recall the Golden-striped Voidfrost Weevil he killed. That weevil was not very powerful but it had a golden strip on its body. Obviously, it was a True Royal Voidfrost Insectoid, born to be the king or queen of all Voidfrost Weevils.

Unfortunately, it was killed before it could even grow, and somehow, Emrys inherited the ability to regenerate and heal from that Golden-striped Voidfrost Weevil.

Elysia also told Emrys that Voidfrost Weevils are hard to kill. Their bodies are covered in a strong armor that protects them from attacks. This armor makes them different from other insectoids and makes them very difficult to defeat in battle. Their icy power allows them to freeze almost anything they touch, including their enemies. This ability makes them dangerous opponents.

From this, Emrys guessed that the True Royal Voidfrost Weevil he faced was likely still a child and was unlucky enough to die under his hands.

Another thing that surprised Emrys was that Voidfrost Weevils only appear when something big is about to happen. They don’t come out for small fights. They are usually found guarding important places. When Voidfrost Weevils are seen, it often means a big battle is coming.

Learning all this, Emrys realized how serious the mission was.

Facing Voidfrost Weevils, especially Royals and True Royals, would be extremely dangerous. He now understood why Elysia was frustrated.

According to Elysia, Voidfrost Weevils combine void and frost attributes, making their attacks lethal and unpredictable. They have several void and frost-related abilities, however, a few more famous were Void-Frost Aura, Frost Void Blades, Regeneration, and Temporal Freeze.

Elysia and Emrys walked for a while and entered a deep forest.

Insectoids were the rulers of this Insectoid Island, but they did not possess so-called technology. Therefore, the island's environment was perfectly preserved. The forest near the shore was as dense as it could get, and this provided a perfect cover for the two of them.

Along the way, Elysia also hunted a few insectoids and used fire to cook them before eating with Emrys. The taste was bland since there were no spices to mix in the meat, but it didn't matter.

The first time, Emrys ate a lot and ended up completely devouring a giant insectoid about three times his size.

This shocked Elysia. She couldn't help but say that Emrys does have a big appetite.

Emrys felt helpless and sighed.

What could have he said?

Nevertheless, that hunger finally dissipated and he felt full.

After that, they continued their journey once again.

Elysia led the way while Emrys followed her closely behind. Maneuvering through the thick forest was not easy. Lucky for Emrys, Elysia was there to deal with all the dangers for him. All he had to do was stay on high alert all the time and stay cautious of any ambushes from insectoids.

As for informing Elysia about insectoids by sensing their arrival through Echo Sense, there was no need for him to do that. Elysia's strength was terrifying and her senses were actually much sharper than Emrys's ability. Even before Emrys could sense the arrival of insectoids, she already knew that they were coming.

He was of little use during this entire journey.

However, Emrys always felt his body was changing from the inside.

It was the third day since he entered the forest with Elysia. Initially, he felt difficulty observing the surroundings during nighttime because the already dark forest becomes darker. But now, after three days, he could actually see everything very clearly. In fact, he could even see something that was happening far in the distance very clearly.

Aside from this, he also became a Second Star Esper successfully.

According to Elysia, this was all due to the meats of high-level Insectoids that he had been eating for the past few days. Those meats are valuable resources even in the Battle Star Alliance. Not everyone could eat meats of such high-leveled beasts and insectoids. It is not a surprise for them to give Emrys a huge boost in his cultivation.

Not only did Emrys become a Second Star Esper, but he was also moving towards the Third Star Esper rapidly. This speed of improvement was shocking.

Other than the ability to see even in the dark and huge improvement in cultivation, Emrys also discovered that he seems to be awakening something else.

As for what it was, he could not say for sure.

While they were moving, Elysia cut down a small tree that stood in the way with just a swing of her alloy sword. The sword was an auxiliary gear that came with her armor. It was not only extremely sharp but also highly tensile, making it the perfect tool for clearing paths and for combat.

“Wait a second!” Emrys suddenly called out to Elysia, who was leading at the front.

“Umm... What happened?” She looked back.

“Something is wrong!” Emrys knitted his brows together.

“What’s wrong?” Elysia looked around but didn't see or sense anything. She was a Seventh Star Esper. Compared to her sense, Emrys's Echo Sense was a joke. She could not understand why Emrys told her that something was wrong when she clearly didn't sense anything dangerous around.

“I can’t tell what it is, but I have a feeling that something dangerous is coming from that direction. It is very far away, but I can still feel it. This feeling... My heart is palpating. Why is this happening?” Emrys just had a strong uneasy feeling, but he did not know what it was about. He could not tell why he was feeling this kind of terrible sensation.

Elysia didn't refute Emrys. Although she could not sense anything wrong, she still decided to stay cautious.

This was the insectoid island and who knows what kind of danger is hidden in some places.

She was not omnipotent. She was just a Seventh Star Esper.

There are insectoids much stronger than her on this island. There is no need for her to become overly arrogant. Staying cautious in such a situation always benefits than harm.

Thus, she continued to move forward more carefully than before. Emrys trailed after her again. He was also on high alert.
