Chapter 63 A date?

Chapter 63 A date?

LAURA'S POV:

We dropped off Jenna at her place and turned to return home when we passed by Talbots. I told Brian to stop, while I shopped for a few dresses for Ria, before heading back home.

Ria was still at school, so the house was mostly us. Brian went off to pick up something from the neighborhood leaving me alone at home. I went in to the bathroom to wash up.

Things had been so overwhelming in the last twenty four hours. From the masquerade ball to Ryan's accident and the more recent fight with Jaxon. Well, not like a fight actually, since he simply let Brian beat him up without lifting a hand to defend himself— I didn't know it was mere stupidity or because he felt he deserved it.

Because like hell, he deserved every punch he got. Seeing him crumpled on the floor, cowering away under Brian's kicks and punches made me relief a bit of the pain I had carried in all this while. All the hurt he had cost me.

So even as I tried to hold Brian off, a part of me still wanted him to beat him up. To wreck him, to damage him and even throw some wine in his hair like he did to me that night.

But another part of me, didn't really want to see him that pitiful. He looked so helpless and in so much pain with each blow Brian dealt him that it moved my heart, even against my will.

I stepped out of the bath tub, dried myself up and slipped on something warmer before heading back downstairs.

I was at the foot of the stairs when I heard someone ring the doorbell.

I frowned. I wasn't expecting anyone.
And I really didn't get much visitors here, in fact no one visited me asides Gwen and Brian.
And Brian never brought his friends to the house.

So who was at the door?

“I'm coming.” I called out, at who ever was at the door, before walking towards it slowly. I peered through the peephole and gave out a small gasp.

What was Jaxon doing here?

My hands tightened round the door knob and I pulled it open and stepped out in to the corridor, my eyes fixed on him.
I tried to keep my face free of any emotions, as I folded my hands across my chest and leaned back against the door frame.

“What are you doing here, Mr. Jaxon?”

“I came to apologize about what happened last night.”

A frown sneaked up the corners of my mouth. “Huh, alright then. Apologize, I'm all ears.”

He sighed softly. “I'm sorry about everything. I didn't know when I sort of lost control and just…” His voice trailed off.

I guess he wanted to say just kissed me.

What was so hard about that?

“I'm sorry, I did that.”

I nodded, still staring at him. “Is that all you're apologizing for?” My voice was so low, almost a whisper.

But it was audible enough, since he was just inches from me. I hiked an eyebrow at him. Waiting for him to answer. But he said nothing.

Are you only apologizing for kissing me last night, you silly pervert. What about that night you had me in that corridor. What about all the stupid pains you've caused me and my daughter.

You fucking ruined my life, my whole beautiful and amazing life. You ruined everything by forcing yourself on me but all you are apologizing for is a kiss?

One stupid kiss, what about all the damaged you've caused?

I glared at him, feeling a monstrous anger build up in me, twitching my muscles and curling my insides.

He stared back at me with wide puzzled eyes.

I sucked in a deep breath to steady myself before pointing slowly at the gate.

“Get out of my house, now!”

“Please, I'm genuinely sorry.” He pleaded.

“Now!” I repeated more aggressively. My face turning cold with rage, the hand beside me curled in to a fist.

But he didn't move. He stood rooted there, his face all bruised and purple, staring at me.

Daring my will power!

“Why are you still here?” I asked in a choked up voice.

“Because I want to talk things over with you. We need to iron out this scandal, if not for anything to save your reputation. Please.” He begged.

Jaxon Fallon was begging me.

I heaved a sigh. “So what do you want to talk about?”

He swallowed hard and stared at me straight in the eye. “I'm not sure, you're in the right frame of mind now and I understand why and I'm sorry for that.” He paused.

I kept my eyes glued on him, not friendly but not warily as well.

“If you're free tomorrow can we talk?”

“Where?”

“Not at your place— I don't want your brother giving me a second black eye. And I don't think you'll want to be at my place too.”

Of course. I wasn't even planning on setting foot there anymore.

“So let's make it a date then, at any restaurant of your choice.”

I almost choked on my breath as I stared at him incredulously. “A date?”

“Yeah, I mean let's talk things over in a public space, that would be more safer for both me and you.”

My heart was racing boisterously. But I tried to convince myself, it wasn't literally. Like date, date, date.

There was no way I'd agree to a date with Jaxon Fallon. This is just to sort things out between us.

To resolve this scandal as soon as possible.

“Okay.” I voiced.

His face struggled to make out a smile out of the many bruises, but he managed it.

“Thank you, I'll text you the location and time tomorrow.”

I nodded. “Okay.”

“Good bye then. Er, take care of yourself.” He said and slowly turned around and walked out of the corridor. I watched him jog back to the gate and disappear behind it.

A soft sigh escaped my mouth. Was I really doing the right thing by agreeing to this date with Jaxon Fallon.

Although it wasn't like an actual date. But it was still a date.

God, was I doing the right thing?

I turned back in to the house and shut the door behind me.

My phone buzzed in my jacket and I picked it up.

“Hello, Gwen.”

There was a shuffling sound on the other end, a minute later. Her voice filtered through the speaker.

“Hey, babe. What's up?”

I strolled the distance to the couch and slumped on it. “I'm good, guess who just left here now?”

“Ryan?”

“No come of it.” I snapped, rolling my eyes.

“How's he though?”

“He's good, we just left him a while back.”

“Okay, so who was the mystery guy in your house now?”

My heartbeat flew up again as I mentioned his name. “Jaxon Fallon.”

“What?” She yelled, I had to move the phone a couple more inches from my ear to reduce the impact.

“What was he doing there?”

“He came to apologize and even asked me for a date tomorrow, so we can talk things out.” I explained.

“Did I hear well? Did he say a date?

I nodded. “ Yes, not like an actual date. Just somewhere we can talk.”

“And what did you tell him.”

“I said yes.” I blurted out.

“What the hell? Are you crazy!”

yeah, maybe I was.
