CHAPTER THIRTY

CHAPTER THIRTY

The engine roared to life as Wesley smiled at me, “I’ll call you once I’m back from work, we need to discuss something important”, he said with a smile.

I looked up from my phone as I just finished typing a message to Sarah, my friend from the office.

“Something important and you are smiling?”, I raised my eyebrows staring at him with a puzzled look as I chuckled.

“When would you ever be serious Wes”, I remarked shaking my head.

Wesley drummed on the steering wheel as he slowly drove down the driveway, “I swear it’s really important, forget the fact I’m smiling, you are the one giving me this joy too, I mean… just look at you—you are not even trying but that’s… sexy”, he paused, turning to me, his eyes sucking in every detail.

I threw my gaze outside furrowing my brows so that it wouldn’t be obvious that I was blushing.

“And now you want to tease me even more”, I muttered nonchalantly.

Suddenly I froze as I felt his cold hand on my neck, running the tip of his fingers over my skin, he pushed my hair to the side, so he could have a better view.

“It’s cute”, he whispered, his breath tickling my ear.

A chill ran down my spine and my heart began beating fast.

I turned to him, utterly confused.

“Your cute hickey tattoo”, he cleared, a mischievous smile plastered on his face.

I laughed loudly, my embarrassment embracing me, Just what I was avoiding, my cheeks flushed red once again, the unsettling chaos that was already growing rapidly transitioning into charm.

He’s acting as if I did it myself, “weren’t you the one that refused to leave my neck for even a second?
You should go over to… I don’t even know the country that would fit you”, I grinned trying my possible best to divert his attention from my naughty look.

We drove out the gate of the mansion, Wesley’s focus increased as he sped off onto the road, but he continued the conversation, “What should I be doing there”, he asked making last-second adjustments before he drives out.

“You talk in parables so much, don’t you think it’s good you mingle with your kind of people?”, I smirked.

He reversed the car swiftly, driving out of his huge mansion.

He continued, “What makes you think I’m not with my kind of people, you are my kind of people, and I’m glad I’m mingling with you, I mean I have a flash drive I’ll need an assassin for.
In short, I’ll call you my personal assassin from now on”, Wesley confessed with humor.

A message beeped on my phone, from Sarah, reading: I have missed you so much at the office, a lot of unfolding drama, no one to gossip with now, I miss you(cry emoji).
“Heheheheheheheh”, I laughed demonically, almost spelling out each sound as nostalgia stabbed me.

I smiled, both at Wesley’s joke and Sarah’s message.

“I guess I’m your princess in shiny armor then”, I joke back.

“We can meet today after work, I forgot my nose in the office you know(laugh emoji)”, I smiled as I replied to Sarah.

Wesley’s attention was shared between me, the road, and my glittering bracelet.

“Nice bracelet you got there, I like its shine, I recognize this limited edition luxury bracelet, Anna is balling indeed”, Wesley admired, teasing me slightly with a smile.

But Like a cloud over the sun, my smile faded.
“Hmmmn?”, I asked in defense.

Oh, Wesley has started with his literature, he wants to mock me for wearing one design for all my life.

“I’ll get a new one soon, at least I need a job first, jewelry is the least of my worries”, I replied rudely.

I can’t believe he is shaming me right now, wanting to make me feel inferior.

“You’ll get a job asap, I’m looking out for you, if I bring this to the Our company’s table, the authorities will go crazy for you, I’m just checking for a good position and it should be vacant, so once you come, it’s phweeee…”, he demonstrated smacking his palm swiftly with a childish giggle.

I crossed my arms over my chest as my heart burned with rage.

“Maybe I should even leave his car already, I’ll take a taxi home instead, my house should be at least five miles away, I’m not going to die, rather than let someone humiliate me”, I murmured.

“Which of the auctions did you get it? There’s just a few of this kind”, Wesley continued.

My fury grew rapidly and my temperature rose with it, my face red in smite.

“Can you just mind your business right now and stop oppressing me, I got it when I was young, by myself, with a family, or whatever way, I don’t remember, but it’s my favorite, it holds memories for me, it’s my little treasure, and right now, I’m not going to take it off, yes… I’m not even going to get a new one… I mean, why should I? Why is it your problem?”, I fired at him at once.

Shockingly, Wesley didn’t flinch, his focus on the road like he was mute or there was an invisible soundproof wall blocking us.

“I was only admiring it Mi lady, I see no reason why you should flare up, it’s beautiful and classy, and I promise to… MIND MY BUSINESS from now on”, he ended.

I breathed, my fury still lingering in the air, but a pang of guilt hit me suddenly.

Wesley was just trying to be nice, whether my bracelet was real or fake, gold or bronze, he likes its shine, I shouldn’t have been rude, I misunderstood him and it’s my fault.

I stared at him with scorn, it was his fault still, I’m not going to apologize.

Now the air in the vehicle was heavy with tension… or it was just me, as Wesley seemed so calm, totally ignoring me like I wasn’t even present.

The loud silence could blind me, I focused on the road as we neared my street but then my phone beeped once more, Sarah again: “Peek sneak, Ethan and Lillian has a big issue”, I smirked, already? There’s no peace for the wicked after all.

I smiled, but then it hit me again, what if the issue is about the storage device, have they found out about it already?

My heart began racing again, what should I do now? Should I tell Wesley already? I don’t think so, I’m not sure of it right now, Or I should wait for when I meet Sarah after work?

I exhaled heavily, I’ll just text her to tell me what’s happening.

I picked up my phone once more and sent her a message again, but now she is no longer online, I guess she has resumed work.

What do I do now, this is all my fault.

“Wesley” I called quietly in an apologetic voice.
