CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: Caring For Her Like My Real Wife

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: Caring For Her Like My Real Wife

DAMIEN'S POV

My heart clenched in pain at the sight of Elena crying in my arms. It hurt my soul very deeply to know that I was the reason behind her tears. I gently wiped her tears and she looked up at me with a sad expression as she glanced at my shoulder.

“Does it still hurt a lot? You got it because of me…” She mumbled softly and I let out a sigh as I shook my head at my words.

"It's not that bad, Elena. I'm fine now. You should stop trying to blame yourself for what happened. Worry about yourself first.” I replied as I smiled at her and she sighed in response.

“So tell me, why were you crying? You seemed to have found out something very important. If it could make you cry, then I'm sure it's not about Lucas alone." I added and she nodded in response.

“Lucas and Charlotte used to be in love. No, let me rephrase that. Lucas was madly in love with Charlotte but it seemed like Charlotte was using him for his money. When Lucas was willing to give everything up to marry her, she confessed that her heart was with someone else…” Her voice trailed off and I realized the reason behind her tears.

"It was Adrian, right?" I asked and she nodded gently as she turned to look at the papers on the floor.

“Lucas must have been very heartbroken and probably tried to beg her to stay. When she refused, he somehow found a sex tape of both of them and threatened to release it. This must be the reason they killed him. So that their secrets could remain hidden.” She concluded and I let out a sigh as I tried to digest the information.

“Adrian and Charlotte… they'd been together even before I went to jail. This sex tape was recorded on the day he asked me to be his girlfriend. It makes me mad that I was so dumb to believe that he truly loved me.” She said softly as a lone tear ran down her cheeks and I immediately wiped it away.

“Don't cry for him. He's not worth it. We'll make them pay for everything they did. And this time, we'll do it together, is that okay?” I asked, my fingers lingering on her face longer than necessary and she looked up at me before nodding.

“But the evidence is not complete yet. The letters that they exchanged are all here, and the video Lucas recorded before his death is here but it's still not enough to prove that I'm not the killer or that Charlotte killed him. It could be labeled as a photoshopped video.” She reasoned and I nodded in agreement because I knew she was right.

If we were gonna send them to prison, we needed more hardcore evidence. But for now, I just wanted to stop her from feeling any pain. I needed to make her forget about the pain Adrian had made her go through.

As for Adrian, when the time comes… I'll kill him myself.

“Here's what we are going to do. We'll take back all the evidence we gathered and keep it safe while we search for more. However, the sex tape will be our next revenge plan. For now, let's go back home.” I said softly as I crouched down and picked up all the letters on the floor.

My eyes caught sight of the video playing on her phone and my jaw clenched as I picked it up before removing the memory card from her phone.

“This will be safe with me. You might hurt yourself if you keep looking at it.” I said as I gathered everything with my left arm and I stood straight to see her staring at me.

“You came in with an umbrella but why are you drenched? Why did you walk in the rain when your shoulder is still injured? You could get an infection!” She said in worry as she came up to me and took the letters from me but I held the memory card back.

“Let's go, I'll drive.” She said as she turned around and started walking downstairs causing me to let out a soft groan of frustration.

My car was still parked at the roadside due to the traffic. I ran after her to tell her that my car wasn't close but she had already stepped outside. My eyes widened when I saw that my car was outside the house and I realized that Gabriel must have brought it here.

“Hurry up before the rain starts again.” She said as she gestured for me to hurry up and I smiled before walking up to the car and getting in.

She turned the car's engine on and drove onto the road with a neutral expression on her face. The tension in the car was thick and awkward for no reason and I cleared my throat nervously.

“If you have something to say, say it.” She said and I let out a frustrated sigh at her harsh tone.

“You can't be mad at me just because I ran in the rain, right?” I asked with a skeptical tone and I caught her rolling her eyes as her grip on the wheel tightened.

“Do you realize that this could be more than you think? Would you like to remain one-handed for life? You think it's fun? Who would marry you if you only have one hand?” She reprimanded harshly and a small smirk tugged on my lips as I leaned close to her.

“Why should I worry? I already have you as my wife, why should I remarry?” I asked and she glared at me before turning her attention back to the road.

“I'm not your real- forget it. If you decide to be one-handed, I'll divorce you! So, you better focus on getting better. Revenge is better tasted when you're in good health.” She replied and a grin spread on my lips at her words.

She's slowly accepting that she's my real wife. All that's left is getting rid of every obstacle and I'll marry her again.
