Chapter 49

Chapter 49

"Should we... keep some for ourselves?"

One of the executives finally spoke up, while the others avoided eye contact, clearly uncomfortable with the topic.

"Think about the state of Campbell Corporation right now. If we miss this chance, it's gone for good."

Everyone exchanged uneasy glances.

No one wanted to see such a huge profit slip away.

It didn't take long for them to make a decision.

They'd sell, but they'd also consider taking over themselves.

Meanwhile, at the restaurant...

Tate and Ewan were on edge.

Since Juan left, Hayes had been silent, sitting alone and sipping his coffee.

The food on the table remained untouched.

The atmosphere was suffocating.

Tate straightened up, glanced at Ewan beside him, and said in a deep voice, "Mr. Campbell, if you have something to say, just say it. We're all on the same team here."

Hayes put down his coffee cup and looked at the two of them.

"Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Edwards, I'll be straight with you. I need your help."

Tate and Ewan exchanged a look and gave a bitter smile. "Mr. Campbell, given our current situation, I'm not sure how much help we can be."

Hayes looked at the old fox in front of him. "Mr. Mitchell, you're kidding. This help can only come from you two."

"Alright, let's hear it."

Tate's voice was low. Knowing Hayes, he wouldn't ask without a plan.

"I've found out who killed Roy and Eugene. It was someone sent by Juan," Hayes said softly.

Tate and Ewan were stunned.

Juan sent someone to kill Roy and Eugene and then framed Hayes?

What was he after?

Suddenly, they both realized.

Juan was targeting Campbell Corporation.

Seeing their expressions, Hayes spoke softly, "Looks like you two have figured it out."

"My son was imprisoned for drug trafficking, and Campbell Corporation's stock plummeted. Juan has been buying up shares."

"Along with the stocks held by individual investors, Juan has acquired a significant amount of Campbell Corporation's shares recently."

Hayes's face darkened as he looked at the two of them. "If he gains control of Campbell Corporation, none of us will fare well."

Tate and Ewan sat quietly.

They knew what kind of person Juan was, but would he really dare to do this?

"Mr. Campbell, you should go to the police with this, not us."

"I can't let Juan off so easily. He wants Campbell Corporation? I want to see how he plans to take it."

Hayes's voice was icy.

The two remembered that this was Hayes, who built his empire from scratch.

The man who held Hillcrest's largest company, Campbell Corporation.

Not an ordinary person.

Would someone who developed a small company into a conglomerate be easy to deal with?

But they needed to weigh the pros and cons carefully.

Campbell Corporation was powerful.

But with Henry's scandal making headlines, if Juan acted now...

Bright Group was no weaker than Campbell Corporation.

And Nathan was only a nominal shareholder of the café, not involved in drug use or trafficking.

Unlike Henry, he would be out soon.

If Hayes succeeded, it would be good for everyone. If Hayes failed...

The Thompson family wouldn't help them anymore.

Would they obediently become the Thompson family's lapdogs, or take a chance and become wolves?

The two fell into deep thought.

They couldn't afford to gamble anymore.

If they failed, they would lose everything, maybe even their lives.

Hayes looked at them and continued, "Given what you know about Juan, the Thompson family won't protect you forever."

This was the final straw.

Tate's pupils dilated. He had forgotten about this.

This wasn't gambling; Hayes had them cornered.

Would Eris care about their fate? The answer was clearly no.

He made a decision immediately. "What do you need us to do?"

Hayes smiled with satisfaction. "I want to meet Eris."

The two were taken aback, waiting for Hayes to continue. After a long pause, they tentatively asked, "And then?"

Hayes gently put down his coffee cup, smiling at them. "What happens next is none of your concern."

Tate didn't rush to agree, showing a thoughtful expression.

After all this, Hayes just wanted to meet Eris?

It was strange, very strange.

Given Hayes's status in Hillcrest, did he really need them for this?

Looking at Hayes, who was calmly sitting in his chair, Tate smiled. "Mr. Campbell, you're joking. With your status, do you need us to relay a message to Ms. Thompson?"

"You should know better than I do that sometimes, intermediaries are necessary."

Hayes picked up his suit jacket. "Tomorrow night at nine, in this private room. I'll be waiting for you."

The two watched Hayes leave. Ewan said suspiciously, "I feel like Hayes is hiding something from us."

"Juan is in trouble."

In the car, Hayes took out a satellite phone.

There was only one number in it. Hayes dialed the number.

"Hello?"

A mechanical voice came from the phone.

Hayes looked at the streetlights flashing by outside, his voice low. "Is everything ready?"

The response was concise. "Ready."

"Send it to my office, and send a copy to Juan."

Hanging up, Hayes's mind flashed with the image of his son, Henry.

His fists clenched, veins bulging on his arms.

That was his only son. Anyone who dared to plot against Henry would pay the price.

"Juan!"

Hayes muttered through gritted teeth, looking out the window.

He had investigated Ethan's café. Juan was one of its members.

And he was closely connected with Ethan. Hayes wouldn't believe Henry's drug use and trafficking weren't part of Juan's scheme.

He wanted to see if Juan could escape this time.

At the police station.

Eris sat in her chair, holding the phone.

She had received a call from Tate.

Hayes wanted to see her now? She had to be cautious.

"Bring me Henry's case file."

Soon, Eris's assistant brought in a file.

Opening it, she saw all of Henry's connections.

And the key points of drug use and trafficking!

Starting from Ethan's café, all the relationships involved.

Henry couldn't escape any of it.

It also recorded Nathan, Russell, and Philip.
