Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Henry's face contorted in pain as he ran his hands through his hair.

"That day..."

"They said they had something fun for me to try, and I fell for it."

Henry looked at Travis, his expression filled with regret. "That was the day I found out Ethan's café was dealing drugs."

"And you just went along with it?" Travis sneered. "Seriously, man, where's your spine?"

Henry let out a bitter laugh. "I was curious, alright? I wanted to see if it was really as wild as they said."

"And it turns out, it really is."

Henry gave a sad smile. "Now I can't quit."

"Did it ever cross your mind why they wanted you to try drugs?"

Henry glanced at Travis. "I'm not stupid. I figured it out later. It was Ethan's plan all along."

"But what could I do? Only Ethan could supply me, and my body couldn't say no."

"So, you introduced Philip and Russell to Ethan?"

Henry nodded. "They had no reason to refuse."

"But I didn't tell them Ethan's café was dealing drugs. I just offered them a cut of the profits and occasionally used their names."

Travis snorted. "Their names? More like their dads' names."

Henry's body started to tremble uncontrollably. "Officer, you already know all this."

"I don't care how you judge me."

Seeing Henry's state, Travis waved his hand helplessly.

Even now, Henry chose to take the fall himself.

Kian handed the organized files to Travis.

Travis hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "Give me Hayes' contact info. I need to see him."

Campbell Corporation.

Hayes had just finished a meeting when his secretary, dressed in a sleek outfit, spoke softly. "Mr. Campbell, Detective Travis from the Criminal Investigation Unit wants to see you."

Hayes stopped in his tracks. "When did this happen?"

"About ten minutes ago."

Hayes replied sternly, "Send him to my office."

The secretary nodded and led Travis to Hayes' office.

"Captain Smith, I didn't expect us to meet so soon."

Hayes pointed to the coffee station with a smile.

"Neither did I."

Hayes brewed some coffee and looked at Travis. "What brings you here, Captain Smith? Is there progress in my son's case?"

"There is indeed progress." Travis said softly, placing Henry's interrogation files in front of Hayes.

He picked up his coffee cup and took a sip.

Hayes curiously opened the file.

When he saw the contents, he was stunned.

His hands trembled as he looked at Travis in disbelief. "Captain Smith... this..."

Travis nodded. "Henry admitted to all of this."

Hayes' face turned pale. With the contents of this file, Henry was doomed.

No! He couldn't lose his only son!

"Mr. Campbell, technically, you shouldn't be seeing this."

"But I felt it was necessary for you to know what Henry has done."

Hayes gripped the files tightly. "Thank you, Captain Smith."

"I have business to attend to, so I won't keep you."

Travis waved his hand. "Mr. Campbell, you go ahead. I'll be leaving now."

Hayes personally escorted Travis to the company entrance.

His face was grim as he watched Travis leave.

Back in his office, Hayes instructed his secretary, "Prepare the car. I'm going to the Bright Group. I need to see Juan."

Hayes' face was a mask of panic as he arrived at the Bright Group.

Juan was already waiting at the entrance, sensing trouble.

He led Hayes to his office and instructed his secretary to let no one in, locking the door behind them.

"What happened?"

Hayes spilled everything, including the contents of the files.

Juan's eyes widened in shock as he listened.

Hayes stared at Juan, desperation in his eyes. "If these charges stick, my son is finished. Juan, you have to help me."

Juan looked troubled. "Hayes, it's not that I don't want to help..."

"But how can I help you with this?"

"Henry has already confessed. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the verdict."

Juan's face showed an apologetic expression. "Right now, even Tate and Ewan can only save Henry's life at best."

Hayes' eyes lit up at the mention of saving his life.

"As long as he doesn't die! I'll go find them right now."

Before he could open the office door, Juan stopped him.

"Juan, what are you doing?"

Juan pulled Hayes to the sofa and handed him a cigarette. "Hayes, calm down!"

"If you go to Ewan and Tate now, you won't get anything."

Hayes' mind was racing, filled with thoughts of his son.

Juan sighed. "Tate was willing to transfer the land to you and offer some tax breaks because Henry took all the blame."

"If you go to them now, they won't help easily because they've already achieved their goal."

"If you want their help, you'll need to offer them something satisfactory."

Juan stroked his chin, thinking. "Henry admitted to being involved in Aurora's death."

"Do you think Tate and Ewan, those old foxes, will speak up for you because of this?"

"You need to understand the consequences."

Hayes sat on the sofa, unwilling to accept it. "So what do I do now? Just watch?"

Juan thought for a while.

Suddenly, he said, "The only way now is to prove Henry wasn't the one who killed Aurora first."

Hayes laughed bitterly. "What good will that do?"

"It won't change the fact that Henry was involved in drug dealing."

Juan sighed. "Hayes, Travis is focused on Henry because of Aurora's death."

"Drug use is the narcotics division's issue, and Henry wasn't directly involved in dealing."

"Later, you can go to Tate and Ewan. With Henry taking the blame, they have no reason not to help you."

Listening to Juan's analysis, Hayes' eyes brightened.

"Right! I'll send someone to investigate right away."

This time, Juan couldn't stop him.

Watching Hayes' back, Juan's lips curled into a slight smile. 'Hayes, don't blame me.'

Hayes returned to his company and made a phone call.

His voice was low. "Three hundred thousand dollars, find two people!"

"Who?"

"Roy, Eugene, locals from Hillcrest, thugs, as soon as possible. Money is not an issue."

"Wait for my call."

The call ended, and Hayes thought for a moment before driving alone to the detective squad.

"Mr. Campbell, it's late. What brings you to the detective squad?" Kian asked softly.
