Chapter 183
Chapter 183
Rhea
The impact drove me back three steps, my bare feet skidding on the ice, but I held firm. My fingers—so much smaller than his massive neck—somehow found purchase, and I felt power flowing through me that made my earlier displays look like candle flames. Ice crept up his fur from where I touched, crystallizing the moisture, and he yelped in surprise and pain as frostbite set in.
"Shift back," I commanded, and again he had no choice but to obey.
The transformation was forced and painful, his body fighting between his will and mine. When he finally stood before me in human form, naked and shivering, there was real fear in his eyes. Maybe for the first time in his spoiled, violent life.
I walked toward him slowly, ice forming under each footstep and spreading outward. The elite soldiers struggled against my command, but I pressed them harder into submission with a casual thought until several whimpered. Behind me, I felt Kael and Jax holding position, felt their fierce pride through the bond even as they worried for my safety.
They didn't need to. I was in complete control.
"You wanted to mark me," I said conversationally, stopping just outside his reach. My hand rose, and ice formed along my fingers—not a weapon, but an extension of my will made solid and sharp. "You wanted to own me, breed me, break me. Turn me into a trophy to parade around." The ice blade solidified, sharp enough to split atoms. "Did you ever stop to think that maybe I didn't want that? That my refusal actually meant something?"
"You're mine," he spat, some bravado returning even as he trembled. "The marriage contract—"
"Is void," I interrupted, pressing the ice blade against his throat exactly where he'd held steel against mine. "Declared null by international vote. You lost, Tyrant. Lost when you tried to force me, lost when you hunted me, lost when you laid siege to Zenith thinking you could terrorize me into submission. You've lost every single time, and you still don't get why."
I leaned in close, letting him feel the cold radiating from my skin, letting him see the absolute conviction in my silver eyes. "You can't own what was never yours. You can't break what's already been forged stronger. And you can never, ever, make me submit."
The ice blade sliced across his cheek—not deep enough to kill or maim, but enough to leave a permanent scar, a mirror to the one he'd given me. He screamed more in shock than pain, stumbling back and clutching his face as blood welled between his fingers.
"That's my mark on you now," I said softly, the ice blade dissolving back into mist. "Every time you look in a mirror, you'll remember this moment. Remember the night you thought you could reclaim your property and instead found she'd become your nightmare. Remember that a woman you tried to break became the one who humiliated you."
I turned my back on him—the ultimate dismissal, the final insult. "Get out of my school. Get out of my life. And if you ever come near me or mine again, I won't stop with a scar."
The Alpha command released, and the soldiers scrambled up, grabbing their injured and moving desperately toward the window. Several had to half-carry Tyrant, who was still clutching his bleeding face and staring at me with an expression I'd never seen—not just fear or hatred, but something that might've been respect buried under everything else.
"This isn't over," he managed as they hauled him toward the window, voice thick with blood and rage and something else. "You think you've won, but you have no idea what's coming. I'll—"
"You'll do nothing," I cut him off, my voice carrying absolute certainty. "Because if you do, I'll finish what I started tonight. And next time, there won't be any mercy."
They vanished into the darkness, leaving behind blood and destruction and the stench of their presence. The moment they were gone, the power drained out of me so fast I would've collapsed if Kael hadn't caught me from behind, his good arm wrapping around my waist. Jax was there a heartbeat later, his torn and bloody torso pressing against my side as he buried his face in my hair.
"You insane, beautiful, terrifying woman," Jax breathed against my temple, voice rough with emotions I couldn't untangle. "You actually did it. You made him kneel."
"We need to get you both to medical," I mumbled, my voice back to normal now that the power had faded. The exhaustion was crushing—felt like I'd run a marathon uphill carrying boulders, every muscle trembling. "Jax, you're bleeding everywhere, and Kael, your arm—"
"Can wait," Kael said firmly, though I could hear the pain he was hiding. "You're our priority. Always."
The door, hanging by one hinge, finally gave up and crashed down. Alex stood there, his royal blade still drawn and dripping, ice-blue eyes taking in the scene with tactical assessment. Caspian was behind him, supporting Finn who looked ready to pass out.
"Holy fuck," Finn whispered, eyes huge behind cracked glasses as he stared at the devastation—ice coating everything, blood splattered on walls and floor, bodies of soldiers we'd downed. "Is this... did you really..."
"She awakened," Alex said, voice mixing pride and concern only a brother could manage. He sheathed his blade and crossed to us in three strides, hand gentle as he cupped my face and checked for injuries. "Both bloodlines at once. I didn't think it was possible, but you actually manifested full power from our line and the Goddess's blessing simultaneously."
"It hurt," I admitted, leaning into his touch because I was too tired to keep up the strong act. "Alex, it felt like being torn apart from the inside. I don't know if I can do that again."
"You won't have to," he promised, pressing a kiss to my forehead right where the Moon Goddess's mark had appeared. "Not if I have anything to say about it. But Rhea... what you did tonight? That wasn't just self-defense. You claimed your power, owned it completely. Do you understand what that means?"
I thought about Tyrant's expression as I'd marked him, the fear and respect in his eyes. Thought about how my command had dropped every wolf to their knees, about the ice that answered my call and the divine authority in my voice. Thought about facing my worst nightmare and not just surviving, but winning.
"It means I'm not running anymore," I said quietly, straightening in Kael and Jax's embrace even though my legs felt like jelly. "It means I'm done being afraid of what I am or what I can do. It means..." I paused, searching for the right words. "The princess died tonight. But something stronger was born."
Running footsteps echoed from the hall, and Dean Ashford appeared with campus security and medical staff. His normally calm face was tight with worry as he took in the carnage, but when his eyes found me still standing—bloodied but unbroken, supported by my mates—something like relief flickered across his features.
"Medical center, now," he ordered, tone brooking no argument. "All of you. And someone get maintenance before this ice brings down the ceiling. Move!"
Students had started gathering in the hallway, drawn by the sounds of battle. They parted like water as we headed for the door, faces reflecting shock and awe and something that looked like reverence. I heard whispers following us—"Did you see the light?" "She fought off Tyrant himself..." "The ice, the command, she's not just an Alpha, she's—"
"A queen," someone finished, and the word rippled through the crowd.
I kept my head high as we walked, refusing to show weakness even though every step took willpower. Kael and Jax flanked me, their presence steady through the bond, while Alex and Caspian brought up the rear to keep people back. Finn had recovered enough to walk on his own, though he kept casting awed glances at me like I'd transformed into something mythical.
Maybe I had.
