Chapter 38 BAIL
Lilian pov
“History always repeats itself.”
I rolled my eyes so hard my head almost hurt. Miss Vale’s voice echoed across the classroom like a broken record. She seriously loved history, obsessed with it. If only the students staring at her knew she was history herself… and that she wasn’t even here for them.
She was here for me.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, my fingers digging into the edge of my desk. Since morning, something had been wrong. Not normal wrong actually vampire wrong. The kind of wrong that crawled under your skin and whispered violent suggestions into your brain.
I felt like ripping things apart anything with blood.
And to make matters worse, the new girl Lucy was sitting right in front of me.
Her neck,God.
I didn’t know whether she’d sworn an oath to her ancestors to constantly expose it or if the universe was just mocking me. Every time she leaned forward, the curve of her neck caught my attention, pale skin stretched over pulsing veins. I could see the blood flowing just rich, warm, alive.
My throat burned and My vision blurred just a little, blood creeping around the edges.
I swallowed hard and muttered, Don’t. Don’t think about it.
“Lilian,” Miss Vale’s voice cut sharply through my thoughts, “what did I say history was?”
My stomach dropped straight to my feet, The room went silent.
I stood up slowly, my legs stiff, my heart slamming so loud I was sure the humans could hear it. My mouth opened, but no sound came out.
“Um… it… um…” I muttered, staring at the floor.
I could feel her gaze drilling holes into my face. Digging. Searching. Like she enjoyed watching me squirm.
Does this woman find pleasure in my misery or what?
She tapped her fingers against the desk she was leaning on, the sound sharp and deliberate. “So I’ve been talking for hours, and you’ve just been zoning out?”
I stayed quiet, cheeks burning as every single student turned to stare at me like a plan, That’s what I felt like.
I heard a quiet snicker behind me. I didn’t even need Jupiter to tell me who it was, Mia.
Fantasti, truly fantastic.
As if today couldn’t get worse, the sound of heartbeats around me started getting louder. Faster, each one distinct. Each one tempting. My fingers curled harder around the desk until my knuckles screamed.
One wrong move, and I’d snap it in half.
Seraphine’s eyes flicked to me. She took in my clenched jaw, the tension radiating off my body… then casually flicked her hand.
Sit.
I dropped back into my seat immediately.
I bit the inside of my cheeks hard…hard enough to taste blood forcing myself to endure the rest of the lesson. Seraphine shot me warning looks every few minutes, which absolutely did not help.
The smell of humans, the sound of blood.
The hunger clawing its way up my spine.
By the time class finally ended, it felt like the longest hour of my existence.
Pheww.
Students packed up and left, chairs scraping, voices chattering. I stayed frozen in my seat, waiting until the room was completely empty. Only then did I release the breath I’d been holding.
Funny how I could hold my breath for minutes as a vampire yet when I was human, I’d nearly pass out doing the same thing.
I leaned forward and buried my face in my sweaty palms.
My fangs ached, Actually they weren’t just aching, they were pushing.
I breathed slowly, trying to suppress it, but it only got worse. My chest tightened, my pulse yes, pulse went wild.
I felt like strangling something, I froze when I heard movement behind me.
A soft rustle and My ears perked up.
I didn’t turn, Then I heard a —
“Boo!”
I didn’t even flinch, I just turned slowly and stared at Seraphine with the most dead, unimpressed expression I could muster.
She smirked then immediately sobered when she realized I wasn’t playing.
She nudged my side. “Hey. What’s with you and the murderous face, huh?”
I shrugged weakly. “I don’t know. I just… feel like ripping something open. Throat, precisely. And devouring it.”
She raised a hand instantly. “Uh-uh. Stop. No bloody talk. Jeez. We’re in school.” She sighed. “You’re hungry. That’s obvious.”
I stomped my foot. “But I ate before coming to school!”
She stared at me like I was stupid. “You know exactly what I mean, moron. How long has this been happening?”
“…Since the weekend.”
Her eyes widened slightly. She tapped her forehead and muttered under her breath, “Thank goodness you didn’t drink Jonah.”
Then she glanced behind me… and back at me.
I frowned. “What?”
She hesitated. “Well… the only option right now is…”
She paused and motioned to herself “…me.”
I burst out laughing. “I once doubted you being stupid, Seraphine but I don’t anymore. What the fuck do you mean you?” I scoffed. “I’d rather eat grass, Yuck.”
She smiled, slow and dangerous. “Wait until it’s bloody. Then let’s see how strong your restraint is.”
Before I could respond, she walked back to her desk.
I watched in horror as she pulled out a small blade.
“Seraphine—”well too late.
She sliced her arm and I saw blood welled up instantly.
She walked toward me and held her arm out, every single cell in my body screamed.
I gripped the desk so hard it cracked. My teeth clenched. My fangs pushed out painfully, fully emerging.
I whimpered, actually whimpered and squeezed my eyes shut.
Miss Vale smirked and moved closer.
The scent of blood hit me, it smelt delicious.
The world went red, I grabbed her arm and sank my fangs into the wound.
She gasped.
“Well, you offered,” I mumbled against her skin.
The first sip hit my tongue, and my taste buds exploded. Sweet. Strong. Perfect. I hummed, unable to stop myself.
Human blood was delicious but vampire blood?
That was something else entirely.
Just as my body started to relax, The classroom door creaked open.
And I heard Footsteps before a vioce gasp and said, “What are you doing, Lilian?”
