Chapter 26 The Solution
"Do you know what you're going to do?" I ask, and Conrad stares at me.
His gaze was lost, without a plan.
"I don't know. I don't know how to act because I've never been through this. If my father were here, he would know what needed to be done. But he's not," he replies with a blank stare.
I hug him tightly, wrapping my arms around his neck. Surely, I wasn't the only one cornered.
"Let's think of a solution together, okay?" I say to Conrad, while holding his face in my hands.
Conrad nods and we kiss. Our kiss is calm and affectionate, and I end the kiss quickly.
"What's wrong?" Conrad stares at me confused, since normally I'm the one who hugs him.
"I'll give you a break for today and I'll prepare a bath for you," I reply with a smile, getting up and heading towards the bathroom.
"I should be doing this for you. Tomorrow is your recognition party, and I left all the responsibility in your hands," I say, my guilt showing.
I walk over to him again and place my hands on his face.
"You were taking care of serious matters. You were taking care of our kingdom and the safety of our people. You don't need to worry about me; there are many people here to help me. I'm the one who worries about you, always running after danger," I confess, taking a deep breath.
"Don't worry, my love. I'll always come back to you," he promises, and we kiss again.
Conrad deepens the kiss and begins to run his hands quickly over my body. It leaves me breathless and aroused. I feel my inner wolf awakening, and I have to control myself to resist.
"Okay!" I say a little louder, pushing Conrad away from me. "I'll prepare your bath," he informs me, and I see him let out a laugh.
"Now you know what I go through every day." He says with a playful smile on his face.
"Don't make me change my mind." I threaten him, also with a smile.
Conrad raises his arms in surrender and goes to the closet. I go into the bathroom and start filling the bathtub. I grab some bath salts and put them in the water.
I turn off the water, let it fill, and wait for Conrad. He enters the bathroom now only in his underwear, and I stare at him with a mischievous smile on my face.
"Thank you for preparing my bath, my love." Conrad says while smiling. "Now get out of the bathroom."
"Why?" I ask, feigning innocence.
"You're not trustworthy." He replies, smiling at my expression.
"How can my own partner tell me that?" "I ask dramatically, pretending to be offended."
"The guy who's been being stalked for weeks and using pillows to protect himself at night," he replies, making me laugh.
We start smiling together.
"In my defense, I've let you think that simple pillows can stop me," I say, winking at him, making him shake his head. "Come on, hurry up. After all, I've already seen everything you've been hiding there," I say with another mischievous smile.
Conrad shakes his head again and takes off his underwear. I stare at his member and see it rise up, resting against his stomach. I look at him in confusion.
"Why that face?" Conrad asks, observing me curiously.
"Nothing," I reply quickly and lower my head in embarrassment.
I feel Conrad walking towards me and soon he's close. His hand touches my chin and makes me look up.
"I prefer it when you act like a cheeky girl," he confesses, making me smile. "What's wrong?" "What's the problem?"
I was sure my question was silly and idiotic. But he was my partner, who else would I ask that question?
"Has your wolf taken over you now?" I ask curiously.
"No, of course not." Conrad replies quickly, looking at me confused. "Why the question?"
"Because you said it gets bigger when your wolf takes over and it's standing up." I'm referring to his member, pointing discreetly.
Conrad stares at his member and then observes me in silence. Soon Conrad starts laughing and I stare at him confused.
"That's normal, my love. You'd know it always gets like this when I'm very close to you." He explains and gives me a quick kiss.
I continue staring at his member.
"Why do I have the impression that it got bigger?" I ask, still in doubt.
"It grows and gets this big when I'm very aroused." He explains, and his gaze becomes serious.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down in the face of that scene. I had to remember my promise, to leave him alone today. Just for today. Tomorrow, after the recognition party, I would go back to tormenting him.
"Come in, I'll give you a bath," I say, and Conrad gives a half-smile.
Conrad gets into the bathtub and I sit on the edge. He rests his head on my lap while I grab a soft bath sponge to wash his body. The tension was in the air, and we were both breathless.
As I scrub his chest, Conrad turns his head to the side and kisses my thigh. His kiss on that sensitive part of my body sends a shiver down my spine. I take a deep breath, trying to control myself.
His hand slides down my leg, caressing my skin. I angrily take his hand and place it on his chest.
"You love starting a fire you have no intention of putting out," I complain, making him smile.
"I'm sorry," he apologizes, still with an amused smile on his lips. "I simply can't go a day without feeling your skin," he confesses, taking my hand and placing a slow kiss on it.
I look at his gesture, feeling the anger fade away.
"I'm eager to see you in your party dress and wearing the celestial jewels. I'll rip each one off by the end of the night," he says expectantly, looking at me with desire.
I lower my head, sadly reminded that we still had several problems to solve.
"Actually, that's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about," I say, drawing his attention.
Conrad stares at me curiously.
"I won't be able to use the celestial jewels."
When I finish the sentence, his eyes widen. Conrad immediately sits up in the bathtub, turning to face me.
"What do you mean, my love?"
That was the moment. I should open my mouth and tell him who I really was. That his mate was actually a creature of darkness. A creature that shouldn't exist. And that I had the Book of Darkness under our bed, reading and studying black magic. The magic he had been fighting to end for the past few months.
