Chapter 123 - Unreject Me
Pete’s pov
For a reason unknown to me, they increased the security at William’s pack house. More guards patrolled the area surrounding the pack house, including the entrances they rarely used. I instantly knew that trying to sneak in would be a bad idea. I was just one wolf. Despite being an Alpha by birth, I wouldn’t be able to fight off a squadron of trained warriors if they were to subdue me. And if I fought against them, they wouldn’t hesitate to kill me as I was an outsider. Although I had lived in the human city for a long time, I hadn’t forgotten the rules of the wolf’s territory. They would kill an outsider on sight if they fought. And despite being their Luna’s uncle, I would be no exception since I hadn’t submitted to their Alpha.
My guess was that William and Helena requested more security after finding out that I was in the pack. That was fine. My senses were still intact, and I was able to analyse their daily schedule from a distance. For three days, I watched them. They lived a quiet, peaceful life—a life I envied. I wish I could have lived in the pack house with her, or perhaps with my mate. I often found myself tensed as I thought about it.
Why couldn’t she have been mated to me? I found her first. She agreed to be my mate before she met William. Yes, she was angry and broke the engagement off, but I knew I could win her trust again. I just needed time. However, I didn’t have that chance. Fate played a dirty game by pairing them together. Although my attention turned towards Kate when they moved packs, seeing her after so many years made me realise that Helena too was such a fine wolf. She would have been the perfect mate for me.
I pushed the thoughts away and walked out of the door. The sun wouldn’t rise for another hour. I wanted to run to the other pack house and wait at a safe distance, looking at the main exit. Helena and William usually went on their morning runs a few minutes before sunrise and would return by breakfast. Although I avoided following them during the past three days, I intended to follow them that day. It was the only time of the day the guards did not follow them, and since my thirst for revenge wasn’t quenched, I wanted to strike.
Minutes ticked by. My determination didn’t waver as I lay low in the bushes. Over the days, I found the perfect spot in the trees where the guards wouldn’t detect my scent while I spied on their activities. When I saw Helena and William walk out of the pack house, hand in hand, my heart skipped a beat. As usual, she looked stunning in her shorts and loose top. They strolled towards the forest like they always did, and once they disappeared behind a tree, I moved from my place.
My plan was to follow them, and when they were the most secluded, take them by surprise. Of course, I intended to attack William first. I didn’t want to kill him. I just wanted him to watch as I had a little fun with his mate. And then, of course, she would die. That was her punishment for choosing him over me, and as for my ex-friend? I wanted him to live with the pain of losing the woman he loved.
After all that, I intended to leave the pack’s premises. I didn’t even want to say goodbye or go back to get my clothes. I would shift to my wolf and run all the way back to the human world. There, I could fly elsewhere, and perhaps take Kathy with me.
I didn’t think about what I was going to do after killing Helena. For sure, William wouldn’t let me live in peace. I didn’t want to be hunted by a pack of established wolves. So surely I would have to move.
That was fine. I just wanted to complete my revenge and then disappear. I didn’t think that would be hard. Blending among humans was one art I had mastered during my quest to flee from Fin.
I relied on my senses as I stealthily moved in the direction they went. I didn’t want them to find out I was close by. That would ruin everything. My lips curled into a smirk when I found them. William was still dressed, but Helena had removed her clothing. She was about to shift to her wolf. What puzzled me was that William made no attempt to transform. He just kept making stupid jokes and laughing with her as she finally hushed him through her giggles. I almost rolled my eyes each time she laughed at his silly jokes. They weren’t even funny.
“Hush. Let me shift,” she said.
I watched her transform into her beast. Her limbs changed form as pure white fur sprouted from her skin. Her eyes were squeezed shut, like she always did, even back then. I guess some things never change. When the transformation was completed, her eyes flew open, revealing the most beautiful light blue eyes.
I felt that I was falling for her all over again. She was the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen, and that was one reason I wanted to choose her as my mate. My jealousy skyrocketed when William ran his fingers through her soft fur and hugged her majestic body.
“My beautiful Fifi,” he said.
I wanted to scream. She was mine! At least she was supposed to be mine.
“Shall we go to our regular spot?” he asked Fifi, who nodded her head in excitement.
My confusion increased when instead of shifting to his wolf, he climbed on Fifi’s back. He held on tight to her as she took off. I frowned. Something wasn’t quite right, and I wanted to find out.

Kaya’s pov
I repeatedly listened to the recording we got of his confession. With that proof, I would be able to save Kathy from him. I intended to visit her and show her the proof of what a jerk her husband was.
I originally wanted to punish him for harming her like that, but as William had said, it wasn’t my call. He wasn’t a pack member and hadn’t harmed me or a member of my pack. So punishing him for something he did to his wife was not in my jurisdiction.
I thought hard about what I could do to keep him away from her. As far as we knew, he hadn’t committed a crime we could arrest him for. Being a man whore wasn’t a crime, unfortunately. And trying to sleep with your chosen mate’s best friend also wasn’t one, but I had to do something to help Kathy. It wasn’t until dinner approached that I thought about making a recording of his confession. And as Theo suggested, a bite from me could heal her. I just didn’t know how I was going to explain that to her.
Although there were times I wished he would leave Black Woods, I didn’t show it. He didn’t seem like a threat, and I understood his desire to stay a little longer. He missed the forest. How could a wolf not miss his true home? Besides, he was pretty harmless. He would go for morning runs like a lot of wolves usually do and return to the pack house. He laid low and didn’t interfere with the pack’s work. If he hadn’t had such a bad past with my parents and godparents, I would have wished he stayed as long as possible.
“When do you plan to go to Kathy with that?” Theo’s question interrupted my thoughts. “It has been three days since we recorded that. You keep listening to that every day.”
I sighed. “Yeah. I don’t want to leave before he does. He hasn’t committed a crime, but I can’t trust him. I want to be in the pack as long as he is here,” I told Theo.
“So once he leaves, you follow?” He asked with a raised eyebrow. “He is an Alpha. When he realises what you have done, he will want revenge.”
I shrugged. “I know. But I can’t stay quiet and do nothing when I know this guy is the most toxic guy for her. I will go there, heal her with a bite, and come back.”
He snorted. “Are you really going for that? I don’t doubt it could heal a human, but how do you plan to do that? She is human. I didn’t expect her to understand how a bite could heal her.”
“Well, I will find a way.”
Heaving a breath, he walked up to me and hugged me from behind. “Fine. But you aren’t going there alone. I will join you.”
I smiled. “Perfect. With you beside me, I just know I could do anything.”
“Hmm,” he said, as he kissed my cheek. “Anything?”
I fought against the smirk curling on my lips. “What? Can’t I?”
“Yeah.” He dropped his voice a few octaves as he whispered into my ears. “You are right, we can, and right now I need you to do a few things with me.” He lifted me in his arms and carried me towards the bed.
I laughed. “Theo? What? On the bed?”
His eyes sparkled mischievously. “Yeah.”
“But it is almost time for breakfast. We have to wake the pups up,” I said.
“Shhh, there is another junior waking up here,” he said, dropping me on the mattress and climbing on top of me.
A breath escaped my lips when he started to kiss my neck. It wasn’t like I didn’t enjoy moments like those. But we had so much responsibility to deal with.
“But Theo…”
I hissed when he ran his warm tongue over my mark. Waves of desire started to course through my veins. I groaned. This Alpha knew how to alter my brain chemistry.
“Shhh, just relax, my love. Let me love you a bit.” His throaty whisper made me shudder.
Let him love me... Yes, I loved the sound of it.

Once we let our emotions drown in the sea of passion, we lost track of time. It wasn’t until Archie started to knock on the door that we glanced at the clock.
“Mommy? I am hungry!”
“Shoot! He is awake already!” Theo whispered, jumping out of the bed.
I let out a breathy laugh. After several rounds of lovemaking, I was exhausted, but in a good way. I pulled myself into a sitting position and just waited. I didn’t trust my legs to carry my weight just yet. Theo gave me a brief glance.
“I will take him downstairs. Take your time to get dressed,” he said.
I smiled at him. At least he tried to take good care of me. “Sure. Do check on the babies too. I gave them a bottle at around five in the morning. They haven’t woken up, but just check on them,” I said, glancing at the screen of the baby monitor.
“Yup,” he said, leaning in to kiss my lips. “Get dressed, okay?”
When I went downstairs, Ezekiel and Penny too entered the dining room with Zian.
Penny smiled and raised her eyebrows to acknowledge me while Ezekiel scrunched up his nose.
“Right. I am so going to ignore that odour right now,” he said.
“What odour?” Theo asked him.
His beta gave him the look. “Really? You reek of sex. Did you even shower?”
Penny pressed her lips together. “That’s a great way of ignoring the odour, Eze.”
I laughed, but both Ezekiel and Penny remained serious. Was something wrong?
My laughter died down as I scrutinised their faces. Penny was the first one to notice that I was studying her face.
“Drake called this morning. He says Helena and William hadn’t returned from their daily run yet. It is taking longer than it usually does. We told him to relax. Maybe they were getting a little too late, but after coming here, we realised that your uncle also isn’t here yet. Could that be a coincidence?”
