Chapter 469 You Look Very Beautiful Today

"Hey, what's up?" Emily turned her head, puzzled. "Got something else to say?"

James just looked at her, staying silent, still holding her hand.

Seeing him like this made Emily chuckle. "James, the worst thing you can do is try to have it all, especially in relationships."

She started prying his fingers off her arm one by one. "Since you've decided to be with Sophia, then please, respect that and stop flirting with other women."

James' lips tightened. As Emily was about to free the last finger, he spoke urgently, "Emily, between Sophia and me..."

Just then, James' phone rang.

Annoyed, he hung up immediately, but it rang again almost instantly.

It wasn't Sophia calling, but Andrew.

Andrew was always reliable. If he called back after being hung up on, it meant something urgent needed James' attention.

James quickly answered the call, said a few words, then hung up and turned to Emily. "I'll take you home."

Emily looked at his furrowed brow, wanting to say something, but in the end, she stayed silent.

Whatever it was, it had nothing to do with her anymore.

She had no right to speak.

At the entrance of the Johnson Manor.

When Emily got out of James' car, she saw Aiden walking in the yard.

Aiden recognized James' car and his expression darkened.

"Grandpa," Emily jogged over, "we just ran into each other at the restaurant. We talked about picking up the divorce decree tomorrow, so he gave me a ride home."

"Alright then," Aiden replied.

As long as they weren't getting back together, Aiden could accept anything else.

"Grandpa, why are you still up so late?" Emily asked.

At this time, Aiden was usually already asleep.

"Your grandma went out with friends tonight and hasn't come back yet. I'm waiting for her," Aiden said, glancing outside.

Seeing Aiden like this, Emily couldn't help but smile. She thought to herself, 'How wonderful. They've spent most of their lives together, and after all these years, their love is still strong.'

She had once hoped to have that with James, but...

Emily's smile turned a bit bitter.

Unfortunately, fate often had its own plans. Relationships were about two people; it was never just up to one person.

That night, Emily didn't sleep well.

In the morning, standing in front of the mirror, she saw her pale face and applied several layers of makeup to cover her fatigue.

Walking downstairs, she saw her family in the living room and greeted them with a smile.

"Emmy, you got this."

"Believe in yourself, you'll succeed this time."

"Emmy, once you get that divorce decree, you'll truly be free."

"Emmy, get ready to embrace your new life."

Emily smiled again. "Don't worry, this time I will definitely get the divorce."

This time, she had all the necessary documents, and James wasn't opposing it. She couldn't imagine anything stopping her from getting the divorce now.

The Porsche Panamera quickly arrived at City Hall.

Before the car even stopped, Emily saw James standing on the steps, smoking.

James had always liked smoking, but it seemed like he smoked even more since they decided to divorce.

Wouldn't Sophia say something about it?

Whatever, he could do what he wanted. That was Sophia's problem now, not hers.

Emily got out of the car and walked up to James.

There were about a dozen steps at the entrance. James stood at the top, and Emily stood four or five steps below him.

They looked at each other, neither saying a word.

After a while, James flicked away his cigarette butt and looked at Emily. "You look beautiful today."

Emily smiled. "I think I look nice every day."

She thought, 'He never paid attention to me before; his mind was always on Sophia.'

Hearing her response, James' lips twitched slightly.

Neither of them spoke again as they walked inside together.

Standing at the entrance, Emily had felt calm. She had thought she would always feel this way.

But now, as she and James took each step closer to finalizing their divorce, her heart grew heavier.

They had finally reached this point.

She and James were never meant to be together.
