Chapter 98

Chapter 98
 Ivonne's POV
I sat quietly all through her narration and though I felt really sympathetic, something was not right about her story. For some reason it felt rehearsed and lacked emotion.
At some point she began to cry and I was stunned when Tobias rushed to her, massaging her back in a bid to calm her down and reduce her sniffles.
Honestly I wasn't against his public display of affection to his ex, but I just couldn't sit still as it went on for longer than I expected. I simply took the opportunity to excuse myself but not before letting it known to Martha that I understood her pain and was glad she had come out of it victorious and healthy.
While I ascended the stairs as I made my way to the room, I felt Tobias stare follow me. He must have had something on his mind to say, but I blocked him out of the mind-link and didn't look back no matter how hard and intense it was.
I wasn't in any way angry at him, I was just having a series of emotions flowing through me and couldn't choose which one to settle with. Also I didn't want to end up acting too non-chalant or worse say something out of context.
At the same time it would have been bad if I had snapped at anyone or maybe have my blank expression seem rude. It was still relatively early day in the day as it hadn't been midday yet.
Therefore I didn't want to spend the rest of the day and my time with Martha downstairs and trying to force a conversation I knew would likely end up awkward.
I made my way straight for the bathroom where I had a bath and got dressed in a simple off-the-shoulder brown dress. I hauled my hair in a ponytail, my skin glowing after my skin care routine and not needing any hint of make-up.
The only thing I did was to apply lip-balm and lip gloss. I picked up my bag after and strolled out of the room. Tobias hadn't returned to the room and I wondered if he was still with Martha downstairs.
My head held high, and shoulders straight I dropped to the downfloor and spotted only Lora and Martha seated in the living room, facing the TV.

The men were absent which indicated they had all gone to attend to their respective duties and Mother too was nowhere to be found. "Where's mother?"
"She said she felt sticky after making breakfast and needed to freshen up," Lora murmured in reply to my question.
"Are you sure it's only that and nothing else?" I inquired, a frown of worry taking over my expression. "Did she show any sign of exhaustion? Because of the stress of making breakfast."
"She seemed fine to me," Martha answered before Lora could speak and tilted her head uowards to peer at me. "I don't think there is a need to worry."
"Thank you for the assurance," I said sincerely with a grin in her path. "I'm just easily worried about her that's all."
"Well you shouldn't," she went on to say as I strolled behind the couch she and Lora were lounged on. "Only few hours of meeting her, I can tell she is a beautiful, strong woman and I suppose that's where you got those traits from."
"Thank you once again Martha," I beamed and didn't know when I tapped her shoulder in affection. "I'll be back soon and I hope we can hang out and share good conversations."
I simply said that, however I didn't count on her answer being, "do not worry about that Ivonne, I'll be here for a while."
"Oh really," I let out, not able to hide the shock in my voice. She chuckled in response, "yes, for a while."
"Okay then," I grinned at her, the wheels in my brain turning as I wandered to the entrance of the mansion. "See you later."
I strolled out of the house, nodding kindly at the guards there and smiling at them as I walked past and in the direction of the pack house where my office was.

"Hello and good day," I greeted, the telephone on my desk pressed to my ear with my left hand while I held the document in the other, my gaze scanning the words. "This is the manager of Pepper-Mint Amusement Park right?"
"Hello and good day," a female voice replied from the other end of the connection, provoking me to be a bit surprised, hence for some reason I had thought it would be a man. "I am the manager and owner of the private amusement park, how may I help you?"

"Aaaah it all fits in now," I muttered before I could stop myself. Slapping my lips lightly with the paper in my hold I rushed to apologize, "so sorry about that, I simply spoke without thinking much on it, my apologies."
"It's the name right?" She asked and I was stunned to hear her chuckle. "Don't worry about it, it's nothing new."
"You get that a lot?" I questioned, my lips stretched in a smile as I released a sigh of relief at how easy going she seemed.
"Of course," she declared. "When people hear name Pepper-Mint Amusement Park, the first thing they think is, what kind of name is that? Then when they discover it is privately owned and by a woman they all go the same way you did."
"By saying it fits?" I implored in a laugh.
"They use other words and statements too," she informed. "However it all arrives at the same notion that 'oh, it's a woman, she must have named it.'
"Well did you?" I asked, curious, expecting a certain answer.
"No, my husband did," she told. "He's late now by the way."
"My sincere condolences," I let out in remorse.
"It's all good. So who are you and why are you calling?" She murmured in query. "Oh heavens, I can't believe I talked this long without doing introductions. My apologies."
"It's all good," it was my turn to say. "I enjoyed it. Also I am Mrs Ivonne, the lady whom you sent your renovation, and maintenance proposal too."
"Wow, it's you who's calling," she blurted, her tone one of surprise. "I suppose you are calling to give me good news? If not I was expecting a mail or rejection."
"Yes, it is with good news as you predicted," I declared and heard her squeal for a few seconds. "I have looked through your proposal and I must confess the name pulled me in."
"Oh the sweet name," she proclaimed and I laughed out loud.
"I'm sure we would make a good team," I told, speaking my thoughts. "The details will be sent to you through the email provided. Please kindly await our response."

"Gladly," she mumbled and I nodded though she couldn't see me. "I guess we would talk some other time."
"Yes yes, we wou—," I paused as a knock came on my door and in the next moment it was shoved inward to reveal my mother. "Talk later."
"What brings you mother?" I dropped the phone on the desk and lifted a brow at her form, approaching me in a blue and red patterned butterfly styled dress that halted at her uncles. "Is it okay to climb the stairs?"
"It is," she huffed and dropped her weight in the couch, "but it is not okay that Martha is moving in."
