Chapter 33 Bernadette Rose 4

Chapter 33 Bernadette Rose 4
Walker back to his mansion in the morning. He entered inside while Frances welcomed him.
"Welcome, Walker," Frances said.
"good morning," Walker said.
"Finally you are back to your home." Frances said. "it's like a male cat escaping from a house to a female cat. I feel you are missing me."
"yes," Walker said. "I am miss you too."
"How did you sleep last night?" Frances asks him.
"very good."
"Now you are home." Frances smile.
"Frances, can you call Christine to me? I want to talk with her."
"Christine? Why do you know her?" Frances asks. "I remember I never introduced her to you."
Walker forgot it, he must to waited for Frances to introduce her friend before.
"Frances, do you know Vincent Moreau," Walker asks.
"Oh! he is a mafia boss, isn't he?" Frances asked.
"Yes," Walker says.
"I don't like him. he stole money from my family when I was young. He is a bad person."
"he is not a nice guy."
"But why do you know him?" Frances asked again. "are you interfering with him."
"No, but very important."
"Okay, sir I will appointments you to Christine."
"Thank you, Frances."
"but you should sleep with me."
"Frances, I am tired. I go to bed to sleep."
"No, don't deny me," Frances said with her pouty face.
Walker feels she is so sweet. "Frances, I don't want to make you upset."
"Don't worry, Walker. I won't be mad at you."
"Okay, Frannie."
"come on, Walker. Don't make your maid wait like that."
"Okay, I will come right now."
Walker chuckled, shaking his head as Frances pulled him by the arm toward the bedroom.

"You're impossible, you know that?" he teased.

Frances giggled, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "And yet, you love me for it."

Walker sighed, letting her lead him. He really couldn’t say no to Frances. She had a way of wrapping him around her little finger—something about her playful energy, her unwavering loyalty, and the way she always managed to make him feel at home no matter where he was.

As they entered the bedroom, Frances climbed onto the bed, patting the space beside her. "Come here. You need to rest, and I’ll hold you."

Walker hesitated for a moment, then smiled and slipped off his shoes before lying beside her. Frances immediately curled up against him, resting her head on his chest.

"You're warm," she murmured.

Walker stroked her hair absentmindedly. His mind, however, was still preoccupied with Vincent Moreau and what Tanya had told him. If this man was truly as dangerous as Frances said, Bernadette was in serious trouble.

But first, Christine.

"Frannie, tell me about Christine," Walker asked softly, running his fingers through her hair.

Frances hummed thoughtfully. "She’s my best friend. We grew up together. But she’s also… very smart. She knows a lot of things about people in this city. She can help you, I think."

Walker nodded. "That’s good. I’ll need all the information I can get on Moreau."

Frances lifted her head, peering at him curiously. "You're really serious about this, aren’t you?"

"Yes," Walker admitted. "Bernadette is in trouble, and I’m not going to stand by and let it happen."

Frances studied his face for a moment before sighing, then smiled. "You're a good man, Walker. I’ll set up a meeting with Christine tonight."

"Thank you, Frannie."

She grinned. "You can thank me properly by letting me cuddle you while you sleep."

Walker laughed, pulling her closer. "Alright, alright. Cuddle away."

As Frances snuggled against him with a content sigh, Walker closed his eyes. His body was tired, but his mind was still racing.

Walker drives his car to the place of appointment with Christine. He park his car in front of the restaurant. He walked to the entrance and sat on the table he reserved.
He looked at the door, waiting for someone to open the door for him.
After a few minutes, the door opened and a pretty woman walked inside. "Hello, maybe you are Walker," she greeted.
Walker stood up from the chair. "Hello, Christine. Thank you for coming."
"My pleasure."
he looked at Christine again, and he was glad to meet her again.
"what's wrong? You feel weird as I'm a policewoman."
"no... I just have a question for you."
"Okay, ask."

"Christine, I'm wondering if you know anything about a man named Vincent Moreau."
"Vincent Moreau?" Christine asked.
"yes, Vincent Moreau," Walker answered.
Christine leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms as she studied Walker carefully.

"I know him," she admitted. "Vincent Moreau is one of the most dangerous men in this city. He runs an underground network—gambling, smuggling, extortion… you name it. But he's careful. He’s managed to avoid getting caught for years."

Walker nodded. That was exactly what he expected to hear. "I need to know if he's causing trouble for someone I care about," he said, choosing his words carefully. "A woman named Bernadette Rose."

Christine's eyebrows raised slightly. "The Madam of the Rocking Horse?"

"You know her?"

Christine exhaled, drumming her fingers on the table. "I know of her. She’s been running that place for years, and unlike a lot of places in this city, her brothel takes care of its workers. She’s fair, which is more than I can say for a lot of people in her line of work."

Walker felt a sense of relief. Bernadette had built something solid despite the dangers of this era. But that also meant she was vulnerable.

"I think Moreau might be pressuring her for money," Walker said.

Christine's expression darkened. "That wouldn’t surprise me. Moreau loves squeezing businesses like hers for protection money. If she hasn’t paid up, or if he thinks she’s not paying enough, he could make things very difficult for her."

Walker clenched his jaw. He had to act before Moreau could harm Bernadette—or anyone else at the Rocking Horse.

"Do you have any proof?" Christine asked.

"Not yet," Walker admitted. "But if you help me, I can find it."

Christine tilted her head, her sharp green eyes searching his face. "And what exactly do you want me to do?"

Walker leaned forward, lowering his voice. "I need to know Moreau’s movements. Who he's dealing with? How much pressure he’s putting on Bernadette? I need something I can use against him."

Christine smirked. "You’re asking a police captain to dig into a mafia boss for you? That’s bold."

Walker met her gaze without hesitation. "You're not just a cop. You're someone who wants to see justice done. And I think you hate Moreau as much as I do."

Christine studied him for a long moment. Then, slowly, a smile tugged at her lips.

"You’re not wrong." She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Alright, Walker. I’ll help you. But be careful—Moreau isn’t the kind of man you want as an enemy."

Walker smirked. "He should be careful. He doesn’t know what kind of man I am."

Christine chuckled. "I like your confidence. Let’s see if you can back it up."

Walker extended his hand, and Christine shook it firmly.

"Welcome to the fight, Christine."
