Chapter 24 Kayla Nils 2
Chapter 24 Kayla Nils 2
Nodione> My dear, are you there?
Walker>Yes
Nodione>We need to send messages like this to be safe. Can you write now?
Walker>Yes.
Nodione> Ok, I will support you no matter what, I don't want to let you die.
Walker>Thank you.
"what are you doing?" Kayla asks him.
Walker quickly closed the glowing message interface on his wristband, turning to face Kayla, the woman who had just spoken. She stood with her arms crossed, her violet eyes filled with curiosity—and a hint of suspicion.
"Just sending a message," Walker replied smoothly.
Kayla raised an eyebrow. "To who?"
Walker hesitated for a moment before deciding honesty was the best approach—at least partially. "An ally. Someone who wants to make sure I don’t die out here."
Kayla studied him for a moment before shrugging. "Good. I'd rather not have to drag your corpse back to the city."
Walker smirked. "How thoughtful of you."
She turned away, motioning for him to follow. "Come on. If you want answers, you need to keep up."
Walker fell into step beside her as they navigated the strange terrain of the 98122868394578745th universe. Kayla was unlike any woman he'd met before—bold, sharp-tongued, and completely unfazed by his presence. Her movements were precise, her every step deliberate.
"So," Walker stated, "where exactly are we going?"
"To the Sanctum of Eldoria," Kayla replied. "If you’re here for a reason, you’ll need to meet the Elders. They control everything in this universe—including the fates of those who enter it."
Walker frowned. "Including you?"
Kayla's jaw tightened. "No one controls me."
He chuckled. "I like that."
She shot him a side glance, her lips twitching as if fighting a smile. "Just don’t slow me down, husband."
Walker’s eyes widened slightly. "Husband?"
Kayla smirked. "You said we were destined to be together, right? Well, if that’s true, you’ll have to prove it."
Walker grinned. "Challenge accepted."
As they continued their journey, Walker felt a familiar warmth in his heart. He had found another wife—another love. But something told him that Kayla would not be won so easily.
And he was more than ready for the fight.
"you are not introducing yourself, you should introduce your name before telling me I'm your wife."
"I'm Woody Walker."
"Kayla O'Dell," she replies. "hurry up or else I'll leave you here."
Woody sighs. "yes, ma'am."
They traveled through a vast canyon lined with crystalline spires. Walker could feel his heart beating faster as they approached the towering walls of the cavern, his hand tightening around the hilt of his sword.
The spires seemed to move as they walked past, shifting and rearranging themselves constantly as though it were a game.
A green crystal above Kayla's head shows him she is his wife.
"Hi, Kayla." a man with a spear asks her while they arrive at the Sanctum of Eldoria.
A tall, dark-haired man stands in front of them. His features seem oddly familiar to Walker. A thin line bisects his brow, giving him a permanent frown.
"Hello," Kayla replies coolly.
"Who are you bringing?" he asks her.
"This is my husband, Woody Walker."
Elder's eyes widen slightly. "your husband?"
Kayla nods. "Yes."
"so, Elder will..."
"I told him, That's my problem," Kayla said to him.
"of course," he nodded,
"please come inside. husband." Kayla said to Walker.
"thank you," he smiled.
Once Walker entered the Sanctum of Eldoria, he felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. The rock walls were smooth and shiny, and the floor was a deep shade of blue. There were no decorations, nothing to distract him from the intense beauty of the place.
The ceiling looks like the sky above the earth.
"This is the Sanctum of Eldoria," Kayla explains to him. "it's the heart of Eldoria. Where all the magic happens."
"magic?" Walker asked her.
"yes, magic. The power that controls this universe is stored here," Kayla explains. "we use it for many things. We created the stars, the planets, and even life itself.
"do you know why we call ourselves Eldorians?"
Walker shook his head. "no."
"Because we're the oldest civilization that ever existed." Kayla said with pride. "we've been here longer than anyone can remember. Eldorians are wise and powerful because we've learned how to harness the power of magic.
"Magic is both good and bad, depending on what you do with it. We are the guardians of magic, and we decide what is right and wrong."
"that's amazing," Walker whispered.
"It's also very dangerous." Kayla added. "and most people don't understand the consequences of their actions."
"Kayla? why are you here?" Elder asks her.
"I came to find you, Dad" Kayla replied. "I want to introduce my husband."
Walker glanced at Kayla, his smirk softening into something more genuine. He had met countless women across different universes, but there was something about Kayla—fierce yet reserved, strong yet vulnerable. He liked that about her.
Kayla crossed her arms. "We should go inside. My father will want to speak with you."
Walker followed her through the grand entrance of the Sanctum of Eldoria. The vast chamber was lined with towering crystal pillars that pulsed faintly with energy. The air itself felt alive, humming with a power he couldn’t quite place. As his boots echoed against the polished floor, he noticed the weight of gazes upon him. Eldorians, men and women dressed in flowing robes, whispered among themselves.
At the far end of the hall, atop a raised platform, stood a man adorned in intricate golden armor. His presence was commanding, his expression unreadable. Kayla approached with confidence but bowed her head slightly—a sign of deep respect. Walker followed her lead.
"Father," Kayla said, her voice steady. "This is Woody Walker. My husband."
Her father’s sharp eyes bore into Walker’s. A moment passed in silence before the man spoke, his voice deep and measured. "Husband? And yet, I do not recall giving my blessing."
Kayla tensed. "You don’t need to—"
Walker stepped forward, his confidence unwavering. "With all due respect, sir, my love for Kayla doesn’t require permission." He met the older man's gaze head-on. "But I do respect her family, and I would like to earn your trust."
A slow smile curved the man’s lips. "Bold. I can see why she chose you. But words are meaningless without action. If you truly wish to stand by my daughter’s side, then prove it."
Walker tilted his head. "And how exactly would you like me to do that?"
Kayla’s father gestured to the center of the hall, where the floor shimmered before splitting apart. From the depths of the chamber, a massive ethereal beast emerged, its body composed of swirling dark mist and crackling blue energy. It let out a low growl, its glowing eyes locked onto Walker.
"Defeat the Guardian of Eldoria," her father said. "If you are worthy, the beast will acknowledge you. If you are not… well, you won’t survive to see my daughter again."
Kayla gasped, her hand flying to her sword. "Father, that’s—!"
Walker stepped forward, a slow grin spreading across his face. "I’ve fought worse."
He drew his sword, the weight of it familiar in his hands. The Guardian roared, the very air trembling at the sound. Walker’s heart pounded, but he felt no fear—only determination. He turned his head slightly toward Kayla, catching the concern in her eyes.
"Don’t worry," he said, flashing her a reassuring wink. "I promised I wouldn’t die."
And with that, he charged.
Walker gripped the hilt of his sword tightly as the ground beneath him trembled. The Sanctum of Eldoria pulsed with energy, and in the dim glow of the ancient chamber, he could feel the weight of history pressing down on him. Kayla stood beside him, her stance firm, eyes blazing with determination.
A low growl echoed through the chamber. From the darkness, shadowy figures emerged—warriors clad in obsidian armor, their glowing red eyes locked onto Walker and Kayla. They were not human; their bodies flickered between solid and ethereal forms as if they existed between realms.
"The Shadow Sentinels," Kayla muttered. "They were never supposed to wake up."
One of the warriors lunged, spear aimed for Walker’s chest. He dodged to the side, the weapon slicing through the air where he had stood just a moment before. Without hesitation, he countered with a swift strike, his blade colliding with the warrior’s armor. Sparks flew, but the creature barely flinched.
Kayla whispered an incantation, her fingers weaving through the air like a conductor orchestrating a deadly symphony. A burst of white energy erupted from her hands, slamming into the nearest Sentinel. It screeched as its form wavered, but it did not fall.
"They’re resistant to magic!" she shouted.
"Then I’ll just have to cut them down the old-fashioned way!" Walker grinned, dashing forward.
He met the next attacker head-on, his sword slicing through the Sentinel’s shoulder. The creature let out a distorted howl but retaliated instantly, striking at Walker with inhuman speed. He barely managed to block, his arms shaking from the force of the blow.
Kayla flipped through the air, landing behind another Sentinel. She drove a dagger into its back, twisting the blade before kicking off its shoulder to create space. She landed gracefully, her golden hair whipping around her. "We need to reach the Core before they overwhelm us!"
Walker parried another attack, his movements becoming sharper, more precise. "Then lead the way, wife!"
She shot him a glare but smirked nonetheless. "Try to keep up, husband."
The battle raged on as they fought their way through the Sanctum, the Shadow Sentinels relentless in their assault. Every step forward was earned through sweat and blood. Yet Walker and Kayla moved as if they had been fighting together for years, their rhythm in perfect sync.
As they neared the glowing Core of Eldoria, a deafening roar shook the chamber. The floor cracked, and from the depths below, a monstrous figure emerged. Standing at least ten feet tall, its dark body pulsed with malevolent energy. Its jagged teeth gleamed in the ethereal light as it let out another roar.
Kayla’s breath hitched. "The Guardian of the Core. If we don’t defeat it, we’re not getting out of here alive."
Walker smirked and raised his sword. "Good. I was hoping for a challenge."
The Guardian lunged.
Walker and Kayla charged.
