Chapter 179 Let's Begin
Meanwhile, at a rooftop restaurant, Angela and Bryce were enjoying the night view, unaware they were being watched.
"It's getting late, we need to go back home so you can rest," Bryce said, hugging Angela from behind.
Angela turned around and faced him. She rested her hands on his chest and stared into his eyes.
"I love you," Angela confessed and briefly shifted her gaze to the ring on her finger before returning to Bryce's face.
Bryce lowered his head and kissed her.
"I love you more. I will protect you for the rest of my life," Bryce whispered in her ear.
"Thank you, my love. I will love you forever," Angela replied and kissed him.
They stood there and kissed for a while under the moonlight before returning to their table. Angela picked up her bag, and Bryce wrapped his hand around her. The two headed for the exit.
They descended the staircase and exited the restaurant. The guards who had come with them quickly looked alive as they saw Bryce and Angela walking towards the car, smiling. One guard got behind the wheel, and the other guard opened the car door for Bryce and Angela to get in. As soon as the couple were inside, he closed the door and got into the car.
The car was soon in motion, and they hit the road. Angela rested her head on Bryce's shoulders, and Bryce kept his hand wrapped around her.
The man watching Bryce and Angela called his boss from inside a parked car across the street.
"Boss, they just left the restaurant," he informed him.
"Good, let's begin," the boss said.
"You want us to carry out our task first?" the man asked, surprised.
"Yes, the idea of this whole thing is to take out Bryce and Angela. If they are together now, take them out, so we can pack our tools and leave," the boss said.
"Yes, boss," the man replied and ended the call.
He set his car in motion after sending two messages.
Back in Bryce and Angela's car, Angela was still resting her head on Bryce's shoulder, smiling.
"I want chocolate," Angela made a request.
"You still want the chocolate?" Bryce asked, trying to look at her face.
"Yes, I feel like taking chocolate," Angela repeated.
"Sure, my love," Bryce said and shifted his gaze to the guards at the front.
"Pull over at the shop after the bus stop," Bryce said.
"Yes, Mr Moore," the guard replied and continued to drive.
The guard parked at the bus stop, and Bryce got out of the car himself to get the chocolate for Angela. One guard went with him, heading for the shop. Angela sat in the car for a while, and feeling bored, she decided to get out and go inside the shop to find Bryce.
She got down and started walking towards the shop.
Inside the shop, Bryce picked up some chocolates and gave them to the guard to make payment at the counter. He headed out of the big shop hurriedly before anyone could recognise him. He stepped out of the shop and saw someone lying on the ground wearing the same outfit as Angela's. His heart skipped multiple beats as he hurried towards the person.
When Bryce got closer, he started feeling weird until he turned the person the other way around. It was Angela.
"Angela!" Bryce pulled her into his arms, slapping her face, but she was not responding, and her eyes were closed.
Bryce looked at her body, her legs, and realised her dress was stained with blood. He carried her, hurrying back to the car. To his horror, the guard was sitting behind the wheel with his head resting on the steering wheel. Bryce put Angela in the back seat, not paying attention to the driver. He also got inside, paying more attention to Angela.
"Drive!" Bryce yelled, still trying to wake Angela, but his command was met with silence. "I said let's move," he yelled, but he was still met with silence.
The other guard exited the shop and hurried towards the car. He saw the blood stain on the floor but ignored it. He opened the front side of the door and got inside before Bryce could reach out to the guard behind the wheel. The guard who had just entered tapped the other guard behind the wheel, and he dropped on his other side.
"Sir, I think he is dead," the guard announced, shocked after placing two fingers on the guard's neck to feel his pulse.
"What!" Bryce exclaimed and pulled his phone out.
"Move him to the side and let's take Angela to the hospital," Bryce said and dialled 911.
The guard did as instructed and saw that the guard was shot in the head and all the car tyres had been shot.
"Sir, the car types had been shot," the guard announced, and he started scanning the environment.
The ambulance arrived Angela was placed inside it. She was still alive but unconscious. The police were also called to the scene. Bryce left with Angela and left his guard to speak with the police.
They arrived at the hospital, and Angela was rushed to the emergency department. Bryce stayed in the hallway, pacing up and down. The day was supposed to be their happy day. What happened and who did this was the only question on Bryce's mind.
After what seemed like forever, the door to the emergency room opened and Angela was pushed out of the door.
"Doctor, is she alright?" Bryce asked, and the doctor decided to engage Bryce, pulling him to the side.
"We were successfully able to get the bullet out of her body, but she lost a lot of blood. So she is going to need a blood transfusion," the doctor informed Bryce.
"I am the only family she has left. You can take mine," Bryce offered.
"Let's go check for compatibility," the doctor said.
"I am O positive, and she is B positive," Bryce informed the doctor.
"Okay," the doctor said. "Come with me," he said, and Bryce followed him.
"Did the baby make it?" Bryce asked, his heart racing in his chest.
"Unfortunately, we lost the baby. One of the bullets went through the baby's head, killing him instantly," the doctor said.
"He?" Bryce repeated, his heart shattered.
"Yes, it was a boy," the doctor said and took Bryce into a room.
They run a couple of tests on him. He was made to lie down on a bed. In that same room, Angela was lying on another bed with her eyes still closed. She had an oxygen mask on. They quickly did the setup for a direct blood transfusion.
At another location, the men who had carried out the task reported back to their boss.
"Are they dead?" the boss asked.
"We got the woman. She would not survive the multiple bullet wounds. We are sure she is dead. The man went into the shop, so he is still alive," he reported.
"Find a way and take him out too," the boss said and ended the call.
Back at Bryce's apartment, Zora lay on her bed, unable to sleep, wondering why Martin would do that to her. Martin was also in his room, feeling regretful for his actions. None of them was aware of how late it was, and the fact that Bryce and Angela were still out there in town.
Martin's phone rang, and he answered it.
"Mr Martin," the guard said. "Mr and Mrs Moore are in the hospital," he reported, and Martin frowned.
"What happened?" Martin asked, sitting up immediately.
"Someone attacked Mrs Moore. The car tyres were shot, and the other guard is dead," the guard reported.
"Where are you now?" Martin asked, and the guard replied.
Martin quickly changed his clothes and stormed out of his room. Zora heard Martin's door open and close loudly, but she didn't bother to come out.
Martin grabbed the other car keys and left the apartment to meet up with the guard to see what was happening.
